Play with friends. Then it's great fun
Most any game is even if it is bad, hell I had some great times with friends in MW2 even though it was a shit game.
I like RockCock64's review more than ZP's
The gunplay in BL2 gods recent gift to gaming compared to what we have seen before.
You know. COD/BF games where you hold one assault rifle and one pistol.
What the hell do weapon limits have to do with gunplay? You barely feel like your weapons have any impact on anyone in BL2 since every enemy takes a fuckload of shots to kill, at least in CoD/BF it feels like you're shooting an actual gun at someone, not just some airsoft or water gun.
Love how he didn't get the reason why that strong ass robot died so fast, [sp]It was a planned trap you fuckwad, jack wanted you to kill him so you would put the trojan'd power thingy in sanctuary[/sp]
Some different weapons I have found in BL2.
A shotgun that shot 3 fireballs in a mortar style fashion
All guns from torgue manufacturer fire rockets that require you to aim a bit ahead of your enemy if they are moving.
A rocket launcher that shoots a rocket that increases speed as it goes.
Slag weapons also add an element of strategy as well. You slag an enemy and then choose a different gun with different traits to finish him off even faster.
In cod/bf you have guns. That shoot bullets. And rocket launchers. Some of which will lock onto aircraft.

Again, what the fuck does weapon variety have to do with gunplay? That's not what gunplay means.
oh right bland, especially compared to Battlefield of Duty Modern Honor with it's tacticool M16's.
those aren't games boasting to be more than just shooters though
Borderlands 2 would be better if every enemy wouldn't take like an entire mag to kill and every enemy you fight wouldn't be just a bigger or higher health version of the same 4-5 enemies and if you didn't spent 60% of the time finding random weapons and wondering "hmm this weapon has higher stat 1 but lower stat 2 and the same stat 3 which one should I take" and then when you do pick one it turns out is shit and now takes 2 mags to kill one enemy.
Don't understand what you mean by that, there is plenty of enemy variety and it's way better than in other FPS'es where there are only a few different enemies
Don't understand what you mean by that, there is plenty of enemy variety and it's way better than in other FPS'es where there are only a few different enemies
There's more than 4 or 5 but at least in the other games it makes sense, you're fighting soldiers or terrorists or something, there's not much difference in that, in Borderlands 2 it tries to act like it has a huge enemy variety when 70% of that "variety" are the same enemies copy and pasted to have more health or be bigger. And all bigger enemies or bosses are just "shoot this guy more" and aren't interesting to fight, they're even more boring than regular enemies.
Again, what the fuck does weapon variety have to do with gunplay? That's not what gunplay means.
Then what does gunplay mean?
The use of guns, esp. by two or more people exchanging shots.
Because under this definition, it seems gunplay is impossible to fuck up in a shooter.

All these are in the first 6ish hours of the game. compared to a variety of other shooters enemies consisting of:

RPG guy
LMG Guy
Riotshield Guy
Then what does gunplay mean?

Gunplay means the way the weapons handling, how they feel, whether they feel powerful or do they just feel like peashooters that are just slowly chipping away bits of an enemy's health. BF3 for example has that down really well, weapons sound and feel really powerful and shooting a single burst at someone and seeing them fall down feels satisfying. In Borderlands 2 the shooting feels more like work, it's just pointing at an enemy and holding the button for a while until he's dead.
I'm not saying Borderlands 2 is a bad game, I still kinda like it but it's not very good as an FPS, it's more just an RPG that happens to have a very basic and uninteresting FPS at the core instead of point'n'click combat that a regular RPG would have.
Again, what the fuck does weapon variety have to do with gunplay? That's not what gunplay means.
Its not just variety, its how the gun works and how you have to change your playstyle to accomadate if you wish.
Gunplay is how you use guns.
If that isn't gunplay then I don't know what is.
As for damage rates and stuff...
1. You have to be proper level. Of course you won't do much damage if you are three levels underneath an enemy
2. You have to keep upgrading your weapons. That starter pistol and shotgun won't carry you until the end of the game.
I really think this was bullshit. Finding better guns doesn't take that long and you don't need to search every single locker, I don't get why he's famous. He just never stops talking in a British accent while making random similes. "handling a car is like riding a butt that leaves behind a trail of balls" The car riding was fine, even on this laptop it felt nice.

Yes but the beauty (or major flaw) in the borderlands formula is the randomness in it, on my playthrough I have a corrosive shotgun and a missile launcher that explodes when you reload it, with these two weapons, I can easily take down lesser enemies, and am satisfied whilst doing combat related quests. Whereas with you, you might get rather underpowered weapons for the majority of your play time, which can make you jaded. The fun from Borderlands' gunplay that I get, is not from the shooting, but from the experimenting and variety of the guns on display. This is especially prevalent when enemies of particular weaknesses come into the groove, it brings a very pokemon esque feeling switching from a fire to an electrical weapon and feeling the difference it has on certain enemies.
I have a sniper rifle that one shots most enemies, a shotgun that kills in two or three shots. I'm not really feeling the slow gunplay you speak of.

Halo 3/reach had the same exact style of handling and everyone was just fine with it. And from what I have found cars turn just fine.
So unless your sensitivity is set to 1 then you are just fine.

Also, if you are only "chipping away at enemy health" in BL2 then you are doing something wrong.
I found an amazing shotgun that 1-2 shotted everything until endgame.
I like stop and starting to finely tune every weapon I find. I enjoy having to put some thinking into my weapons damage and then get to kill my opponents with homing acid bullets because I did so.
That way it's my accomplishment.
You have valid points Yahtzee, and especially that everything is taken by bandits, but I'm willing to forgive that for how fun the rest of it is.
I still wonder why people hate Borderlands' driving so much
It wasn't that bad in the first, and it's even better in the second.

It's still pretty bad. Just please Gearbox let me control steering with WASD.
I really enjoy the game, I don't really know why Yahtzee has to been so anal and think every game needs to had a SUPER DEEP level of game-play. You shoot stuff with big guns and then bigger stuff with bigger guns. Fun enough for me! I think his videos are funny but I don't base my opinion on games on them.

Because here's the sequence of events when I drive:
>driving
>want to turn
>powerslide
>go off cliff or do a 360

That's because you're powersliding. It's not going to turn exactly how you expect it. :v:
Powersliding off ramps is hella fun, though
It's really not bad, but I think there's no good reason to keep it the camera-controlled way on the PC. It works fine on console though, quite a nice a idea actually.
You know, I think yahtzee should just stop reviewing Action RPGs.
It's blatantly obvious from this, the original Borderlands, Torchlight, Diablo 3 and heck even Darksiders 2 reviews that he really doesn't like the genre as a whole.
I really enjoy the game, I don't really know why Yahtzee has to been so anal and think every game needs to had a SUPER DEEP level of game-play. you would've thought after 5 years of this people would've realized that this is what yahtzee does with everything
That just goes to show how bad the game is then if you need to play with others to make it enjoyable.
With that logic, TF2 is an absolute shit game.
I guess it's not really the same because Borderlands is more single-player than TF2 but personally, Borderlands was always intended to be multi-player.
you would've thought after 5 years of this people would've realized that this is what yahtzee does with everything
And then suddenly Painkiller is one of his favourites. :v:
He didnt understand that the [sp]willhelm fight was staged, and thats the only reason the new vault hunters beat him? i mean, right after that it was obvious his power core was fake and shit, did he just not pick up on that[/sp]?
Yahtzee is not to be taken seriously. Regardless if those are his honest opinions or a bit stage for the sake of humor, it's rather about how he describes things, and not about the opinion itself.
I mean, honestly. His videos cannot be considered serious reviews.
Gah
The website won't let me watch the video, it says click to play but clicking does nothing
I've been waiting 2 weeks to hear him rant about BL2
