Why do drones think well-aimed spears only cost $50 to throw skillfully? It should have looked where it was going and not ran into that poor spear's path. I hope the owner apologised and offered to pay for a new one.

Because a lot of them do. They're dropping in price as consumers pick them up. This drone was likely purchased specifically for this shot, I doubt anyone at a ren fair would just chuck a spear at someone else's drone, they're ordinary people like us.

If dji phantom or overpriced stuff like that, spear shot, 500-1000$, if self or premade carbon fiber drone, maybe 20$ fix.
