Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster - BBC documentary - every human should watch this at least once

I actually never heard about the thermal explosion or anything, great documentary.
I prefer more tradition documentaries with narrators and shit. I not a fan of the whole thing being a dramatization/reenactment.
Best hour I've spent on Facepunch.
The story of Three Mile Island is pretty interesting also.
It blows my mind how the officials at almost every level were in a state of denial through much of the disaster.
Great, informative and heartbreaking documentary. I too believed it was the fault of the scientists and the design of the reactor until now. It is strange that this information is not more widespread, considering it's not a secret anymore.

I reckon it's pretty much human instinct to deny amazingly terrifying stuff, as the documentary explains. :|
The thing is, you have to go above human instinct when dealing with an exposed reactor core.
Similar thing happened with BP and their oil spill.

Also, the worker's actions at the start display the results of the Milgram experiment almost perfectly.
It's harrowing to find out how much worse this accident could of been. Russia could have been uninhabitable for a century.
That explosion that would've happened, if the water wasn't drained properly: Wouldn't that have untold consequences on the entire world as well? Next to the bigger part of Rusland being annihilated and being uninhabitable, wouldn't the radiation spread over the entire globe in untold amounts due to the explosion?
The world never knew how close it was to an apocalypse at that time.

And it would have happened, if those bureaucrats had had their way.

What in the hell was this?
Hmmm what a strange Russian dialect they're speaking, must be Ukranian or something.

Also I don't get it is it a documentary or a drama.

Congrats, you're the first person to complain about the english.
It's a dramatised version of real events. This is pretty much how it happened, and all the characters are based on the real people involved in the accident.

To reply seriously, back in about 2007/2008ish the BBC decided to use a bunch of circle things (there's a circle in the middle of the basketball court), including hippos, and I believe bicycles. I think they've stopped using them recently however.

To reply truthfully, these are the "Rhythm & Movement" idents used between 2002 and 2006, which showed people dancing or skateboarding or whatever, each time to a different rendition of a piece of music. Just before they switched to the "Circles" idents which they now use (this is not a Circles ident as Jamsponge said), they aired a montage of all of them put together, which you can see here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uv4NoGevm6Y

Sweet jesus. I never realised they were all the same tune in totally different styles.
Mind is blown.

The skateboard one is actually awesome
Yeah that was pretty good.
Going there next year, will be cash.
I bought a book on chernobyl because like a ton of other people, I was interested in reading up on all the details.

The first few stories I read were about widows who had lost their husbands to the radiation, and they were describing all the effects it had on them. It was too fucked up to read, so I put it down and haven't returned to it since. I'll have to push through one day despite how gruesome some of the accounts might be.
^I had to read that for school, the funniest parts were the ones who denied blame entirely.

Sorry. I guess I don't know my idents.

Will be cash? Does that mean it will cost a lot or is this another hipster word for something?
Great Documentary though. I enjoyed it.
I remember watching this while looking for videos on the Chernobyl disaster.
I saw a load of these documentaries a while ago. Really interesting stuff. I'd really like to go to Pripyat one day, but I doubt it'll ever happen.
seen alot og Chernobly documentarys.. and they are all good, this one too
I hate the anti nuclear power bullshit some of the documentary pulls off.

It barely "pulls off" anti-nuclear sentiment at all. What it does do is show that you should always listen to scientists.
