I had an SNES and that's how I did it, but I'd be hesitant to blow in the cartridges now.

He's not saying that people didn't do that, he's saying that it fucked up the cartridges.

Blowing into the cartridges can damage them and the preferred way of cleaning is pretty much just as easy. Blowing into one of the rarest cartridges in existence is pretty dumb.
The cartridge consoles i had when i was little was a Sega Master System II, a NES and a Sega Mega Drive, wish i still had them now.
