Looks like she had some laser tattoo removal done on her right arm.
Why does the gun shoot blue juice.
"REPRESENTATIVE OF GAME EXPERIENCE" Now that's something you don't read in every preview.
Solar Fields is doing the soundtrack for this game, too. They probably used more "generic" music for the trailer, but there's a preview of the game music. IMO even if the game isn't that great, I think they still have the soundtrack right.
Ah okay good, that sounds much better!
Atmosphere felt like it was trying to be really serious and dramatic, not sure it needed that for this type of gameplay that seems like it would fit a free spirit or mischievous, cocky punk better. Combined with the token character setup and generic McGuffin plot, it seems like someone just told a writer "here's what the gameplay's about and a few concept art pieces, we need some story for the campaign, anything will do really" and they sat in a completely room from the other game devs. Not that it's terribly at odds with Mirror's Edge's forgettable story and characters, it just seems very token/generic and not tailored to the gameplay role the player is going to be given. So eh, don't care. I'll wait and see whether people think the gameplay or level design significantly improved, the story-trailer didn't thrill me.
The parkour is nice, but when do we get to see some new gunplay?
Pretty sure they said no guns this time.
This one?
Still better than what some Japanese devs thought Faith should look like. Jesus fuck they didn't get it. Also, we future now?
1:14 looks like straight up concept art, and I mean that in a good way
Still better than what some Japanese devs thought Faith should look like. Jesus fuck they didn't get it. Also, we future now?
Are you referring to this or something else?
Remember how the first mirror's edge was first advertised by actual gameplay - they just showed the first section of the first level, until the jump to the pipe. It was simple and to the point and showed exactly what the game was about.
they showed a gameplay trailer half a year ago in almost exactly the same format you're describing
Soundtrack wise i wouldn't mind if they brought some back from the original, it actually had a really good soundtrack!
It's really bizarre how the city actually looks worse because of all the extra detail and vibrant colors.
Still better than what some Japanese devs thought Faith should look like. Jesus fuck they didn't get it. Also, we future now?
You mean that random piece of fanart that photoshopped Faith into a one-piece, gave her a titjob and removed the tattoos?
It's really bizarre how the city actually looks worse because of all the extra detail and vibrant colors.
tbh we've only seen what is likely a small portion of the city compared to what's in the game. There might be more underdeveloped areas. And I don't think we've had much of a good look at it during daytime from a gameplay perspective. The lighting changed how the ME levels looked drastically.
Hahaha, the idea that you could free run with those.
That's more of a tomb raiding body
I don't know what to think of the futuristic vibe they're going for, I like the original game's world. It's largely just a modern city that looks clean and pretty, people wear normal clothes and even the SWAT enemies just look like regular SWAT. Catalyst's world looks like Jensen's Deus Ex but blue.
im so fucking terrified they better not fuck this up. ME is litterally the game that got me into game development (not just shitty mods) and showed me opportunities on how to expand on an established genre. hell, my first "real game idea" that wasn't a hl2 universe based mod was an open world mirror's edge like game (i was 12 at the time so of course i had no capacity to make it but i loved the idea. the idea later morphed into the game i'm currently making.) if this game becomes that but better, i'm gonna be so fucking happy. and if it's bad, ohhhh the hell that will be risen. the story's gonna be bad, i can already feel it. it's way too complicated. whatever, i don't need a good story to enjoy the game [sp]but it sucks they made a worse story than the original.[/sp] but if the story somehow hinders the gameplay or makes me feel completely unmotivated to play, it's gonna hurt really bad.
can't really make a story much worse than the original mirrors edge
i'd argue that while the original is really, really cliched and overdone, it was simple. it was just "hey my sisters taken, better go save her." that part was stable, the motivation and drive to play. the rest can go to hell for all i care. ooh, the elections corrupted, governments, blah blah whatever, i just gotta save her, that's what i'm here for. honestly faith just accidentally solved the cities problems, she was just trying to save her sister. that's at least relateable. however, while the original was 30% corruption and 70% save me family, this story is like, 50% corruption, 20% revenge for parents (ugh), 30% some bad dude? it's too complicated and overwritten. she's now this angel of hope rather than just another civilian with sick kicks doing stuff for herself. I hope I can enjoy some sidequests that give some relief to the too-big-for-its-britches story they're going for, but i'm really scared they're gonna drag the open-world aspect down because of that big "da government is bad" wannabe-deus ex: human revolution thing they're doing

Gameplay looks near identical to the first but more refined. You can say what you want about the art style, that's all subjective and whatnot and if you don't like it you don't like it, but I honestly don't mind the world being more detailed. With the larger focus on story and what with it being an open world, it honestly just looks to add to everything. not sure why they went for a more futuristic vibe what with it being a prequel (?) but fuck it, I'm a star wars dweeb and they pull that shit all the time so whatever.

So if it's indeed a reboot instead of a prequel, we surely are gonna get the runner cops (especially judging by the trailer)
I guess I might be. i just really do care for this stupid game. oh, and yeah, it's not a prequel, it's a "reimagining" (aka we didn't like the decisions we did before even though everyone else did, aka george lucasing it)
eh i dont think it's a bad thing, i mean Mirrors Edge at the end of the day was an out of nowhere game that kinda serves as a proof of concept. If they think they can pull off a more fleshed out and deeper game with the IP, I say let's check it out
Be it a sequel, prequel, or just the same idea but updated, I'm eager to play this game
Looks good, not great but good enough that it's gotten me interested. I still have gripes. I wish it didn't go the futuristic route. I liked it how the first one was much more grounded. And I prefer the eerily clean look of the first game. Everything here looks grimy and not in a aesthetically pleasing way. Mirror's Edge 1 still looks unique and beautiful whewreas this just looks like a typical sci-fi setting. And to top it off the music sounds boring and generic compared to the first game's amazing soundtrack. It just doesn't stand out that much, And considering half of what made ME interesting WAS the setting and aesthetic, that can be an issue. Especially when parkour in games isn't novel on its own anymore. It needs something else to rely on, and I have my doubts about the story. I don't think it'll be as good as the first in some- if not most- ways, but I'm just glad it's getting a sequel and they aren't make it into a shooter.
Yeah same here, I posted about it in the Mirror's Edge thread a couple months ago.
I liked the original style much more than the new one. I liked when the Police looked like a more casual version of our Cops and when The City looked like a city, but devoid of colour and life to give it that eerie feeling of emptiness. I loved the views you got of The City during the day, and especially that shot of The City at night where whites, blues, and oranges were replaced with stark black with a sort-of neon-blue secondary. I'm sure it'll be a great game, it's just not the same setting as the first game, and that's what I'll miss the most. That and Faith's old voice, but the new one isn't bad either. The first game was a lot more subtle, the Government was there but it was very evident that Corporations had more power. Examples being the Mayor being the CEO of a construction conglomerate and assassinating political opponents, or the city police slowly but surely being replaced by the privately-owned Pirandello/Kruger company. I'm hoping it'll at least have depth in other ways, I'm just weary about their presentation so-far. Everything's big and flashy when before only the Shard earned that title, and it's flat out said the Corps own everything. I'm hoping it's not actually so obvious in the games as it is in the trailers, which seem to remind you of the fact every couple minutes.
[editline]5th February 2016[/editline] I'm sure it's gonna be a fun game, I just wish they went in the same direction as before.
Yes, its also open world.
That's like the worst thing that could have happened imo.
That's like the worst thing that could have happened imo.
Nah, the worst thing that could have happened is if it turned into a multiplayer focused shooter with some free-running mechanics. I'm looking at you brink.
That's like the worst thing that could have happened imo.
yeah the worst thing that can happen to a game about -running across rooftops- is having it have a wide open city to play in!
yeah the worst thing that can happen to a game about -running across rooftops- is having it have a wide open city to play in!
It's a thing that has it's upsides and it's downsides. The downsides being less detail density, and most likely less well-designed levels. (quantity over quality)
