i just presumed the flying things were some kind of security drones you know, given the fact that it's a dystopian gov-corp controlled world?
I still wish it was styled like the first game. Plus, that way they could have used Cypher UAV's. The unusual shape and function of those makes them unsettling, but not fiction (well, other than being cancelled in the real world).
Inspiration from Spain, apparently. Really good interview about it: http://deadendthrills.com/building-the-impossible-mirrors-edge/ Featuring one of my favorite level designers, Briscoe. Who works at Valve now.

The best possible reason for a sequel isn’t to build upon success, but to build upon the right kind of failure. Mirror’s Edge is not a great game, but Mirror’s Edge 2 could be incredible. DICE’s ultra-desirable anti-FPS may have stumbled in the execution, but the need for such a game seems more urgent than ever. It was an embattled project faced with early Unreal Engine 3 code and changing expectations (at EA) of its role. But its bleached and blown-out vision of a future surveillance society is perhaps, still, the best implementation of Epic’s ubiquitous technology to date.
This is some quality writing.
a beta for a single player game?
a beta for a single player game?
Um yeah, pretty much every game has a beta at some point. Most of them are only used by in-house QA testers though.
"BACK OFF" if I ever play this I know im skipping every cutscene.
Just replace all that guys dialogue with "You're a loose cannon, Faith!"
One of the games I'm most excited for and the trailer looks really terrible Hopefully the story won't bog the game down.
a beta for a single player game?
remember it's an EA game it'll be like battlefront only a cocktease of what the game has and a prompt to buy it after every game while, it can also be used to test the game it's secondary function is to sell the game to you
The parkour is nice, but when do we get to see some new gunplay?
the original ME was far from a shooter and I really doubt this one is any better
Mirror's edge was minimal in design but not in texture. Everything had a rough texture up close, but if you were to take the image and remove the texture, you'd get the "minimalist" style that people remember. Light was pure white, shadows were a cold blue, and colors were bright. That sharpness in quality I believe is lost when everything is phongy and reflective and glossy.
I'm glad other people have managed to articulate the minute differences between the art direction of the two games, because it's been bugging me ever since last year's E3 trailer but I couldn't put my finger on what it was. I could only explain it as things looking "too" modern, which sounds dumb and needlessly contrarian when talking about a Mirrors Edge game. It's subtle. But when you're talking about such a nuanced visual style, this stuff is noticeable. Catalyst seems far more generic in its approach to the futuristic dystopia theme which is disappointing. Worst part is it doesn't even seem like a conscious design decision on DICE's part - it's just like they looked at a couple of screenshots, said "oh right, modern skyscrapers, bright colours" then went ahead. I guess they needed a more futuristic vibe to justify the hover vehicles and advanced technology, but that's not really what ME was about.
i wonder if it's all the same art guys who did the first game? i mean considering the first one was literally inspired by textures i can only assume there was some restructuring or something
