I really dislike the voice actors that developers tend to choose. The whole 'gritty radio announcer' voice. It always seems way too overdone and as though they're trying too hard. Like the player's character in Far Cry.
You guys do know that EA doesn't even own Insomniac Games? They're just publishing the game.
You guys do know that EA doesn't even own Insomniac Games? They're just publishing the game.
publishers can have a large influence over the development of a game. After all, they're often investing in the game and hoping to get their money back with profit once the game starts to sell
I was hoping Insomniac's foray into multiplatform gaming would be a good one. Looks like it isn't. Sony will always take you guys back bra :v:
Stop acting like the game is ruined purely because of an art style change. Both trailers tell us jack about the gameplay other than they're squad-based shooters.

Valve had EA publish their games on console for a while since there was no other proper way to do it just like Insomniac are doing this with Fuse. Insomniac is technically still an independent company. [editline]5th October 2012[/editline]
Stop telling people what to value in a video game
I'm not. I'm telling people to stop flipping their lids assuming the whole game has changed when so far it's just art style. We don't know a single thing about gameplay beyond "squad-based shooter". Nowhere did I say "stop crying about the art style" infact I agree fully that the art style shouldn't have been changed but the fact is you can't slam a game as a whole without even knowing the first thing about how it plays.
We know that it's a generic brown squad-based shooter.
Again, I agree the art style is ass but no one can claim the game has been ruined purely based off its art style.
Oh man,I was really looking forward to this
you sure that grave you're digging for yourself is big enough EA?
Again, I agree the art style is ass but no one can claim the game has been ruined purely based off its art style.
Art style reflects the tone of a game. A shift in art style usually entails a shift the the games focus and mechanics. Look at the first trailer, the four classes were distinct, the soldier designed for tanking and firepower, the stealth girl who is rarely seen, the quick techy girl, and the guy using unusualy weapons. In the new trailer they all look the same, move the same, and I'd bet play the same. It's going to be a cover based shooter with minor differences in the characters. I want vastly different characters. Not Soldier with a shield, soldier with a crossbow, soldier with a cloak, and soldier with... red hair? What happened to her goo gun?
See: The shift made during the development of Borderlands.
See: The shift made during the development of Borderlands.
That was for the better, the developers basically admitted that it looked gray, brown and boring as fuck, so they went all out on the cartoon style. This is just the opposite. The cinematic trailer had a fucking sweet retro evil genius thing going on (goo gun from the incredibles anyone?). Normally I don't mind the whole generic style, as long as the gameplay is still good, but this pisses me off more than it should. Insomniac make fucking solid games, let them do their thing. (that is of course if EA was behind the design change)
I hope that the trailer isn't a sign that the game doesn't have insomniac's sense of humor. but yeah fuck ea for making a game different than the trailer from a year ago
EA DOES IT AGAIN.
It hurt to see the first video with its stylized characters, than see the second video where the graphics were muddy, the characters generic, and the game lose all its color and luster
New artstyle is ass but I'm willing to give it a try. I love coop games.
Dear EA, Fuck. You. Sincerely, Everyone. Why do developers keep signing on with EA? Are they all blind?
1st trailer: introduces and quickly fleshes out each character, gives each person their own little segment to look badass in. 2nd trailer: Oh, there's four people, and they shoot other people. And sometimes punch them, too. And there's a shield thingy. Now watch this kill montage directed by my eight year old son.
This is incredible, they forced them to make Mass Battlefield 4.
Do you guys remember when Spore was a very interesting scientific game?
Dear EA, Fuck. You. Sincerely, Everyone. Why do developers keep signing on with EA? Are they all blind?
Maybe they are blind, or maybe they're desperate enough to sell their blood, soul and children over to them? If the latter, those studios must've been REALLY fucking desperate if they couldn't take the time to research which publishers are ok and which ones are the fetid exudations of godless capitalism poisoning the games industry. This might be an extremist opinion, but I honestly thing that EA should not be allowed to promote and publish games anymore, as in most civilized countries issue a restraining order on EA preventing them from doing what they do. Also I think most development studios should not be bound in blood and tentacles like EA's "charges" are; they should be "freelance" like Obsidian, wherein a developer can work with the publisher to make a game and choose to work together on future projects if they want to. That way if a studio disagrees with how the publisher does things, they aren't bound by the violatory tentacles of unbreakable contract and can look to work with a new publisher, or even go indie and self-publish if they are capable of doing so. It'd also mean that they cannot be dissolved by the putrid acids of being shut down by the publisher, which is usually a good thing since the death of a studio is often a bad thing. Going back on topic, however, i'm still wondering if there have been changes to the overall gameplay and not just the aesthetic. Then again, I don't think we've seen how Overstrike's gameplay, even though we've seen Fuse's gameplay, and i'm wondering if there were any actual changes in that regard.
Overstrike Fuse What a shame. Insomniac had such vibrant characters with colorful personalities that you could see from their looks. Now it's all brown and 2real probably because of EA's direction.
Overstrike looks like it would have been a fun game. Good art style, and as you said the characters show their personalities well. Fuse looks like brown shit. Seriously, what is it with all these FPS games lately and having the view stuck in a pile of mud. Give me vibrant visuals! I'm getting tired of shooters going down the generic brown boring look. And the characters lost all personality too. Just look like your typical Unreal Engine characters.
anyone else reminded instantly of this by the fuse gameplay?
Have it. Love it. Good times :) [editline]5th October 2012[/editline]
Again, I agree the art style is ass but no one can claim the game has been ruined purely based off its art style.
Most games that follow this brown gradient colour palette if you can even call it colour are complete horse shit. It's like they know their game is going to suck so they figured they'd beat everyone to the punch and make it into actual crap. "Hey man that game looks like shit." "That's because it IS shit."
It looks like a lot of the gameplay mechanics are still in tact, so the only real change seems to be the artstyle. I mean, the first video was just a pre-rendered video, probably not even at a playable stage. Game development probably evolved over the last year or two, either by EA wanting to appeal to a wider audience or Insomniac changing their minds.
While it isn't the end of the world, I'm just confused as to why Insomniac or EA would chose to change the artstyle/mood of the trailer/game. If I remember right, nearly every news outlet and individual was like "Hey this game looks really funny and cool! Can't wait!", so it wasn't like it wasn't anticipated. Also, Insomniac just finished the grey/brown and grim resistance series, which from what I heard is a pretty solid, mature series, so Insomniac doesn't need to prove itself as being more then just "kiddy platformer developers" and EA has received a lot of criticism for producing nothing but "grey brown manshooters". So, while Fuse looks to contain the gameplay core of the original trailer, I doubt I will ever understand why they decided to switch the artstyle; it just seems like bad mojo.
Well, it was due to focus groups, and aren't focus groups just made up of people who were never going to be interested in your game in the first place?
Walk forward and shoot does not a good trailer make
ORANGE; BLUE; ORANGE; BLUE; ORANGE; BLUE; BROWN
