Try and find where I said that made them less of a "gamer." Right, getting you and that other mongoloid mixed up because your arguments are very similar. Oops.
But maybe appealing to the lowest common denominator isn't what we should expect out of our favoured entertainment medium? Maybe we should expect, you know, effort and intelligence?
Nah fuck it more boobs and guns, because that sells

These threads are always good.
Anyway, I hate how this whole debate seems to crop up every week in video games. What's wrong with playing as a huge-breasted fantasy woman? I don't see many men complaining about how they feel inadequate compared to the plethora of huge-muscled sex god space marines they play as in video games.
If, over time, female characters actually started wearing practical armor like their male counterparts, would you miss your teeny chainmail bikinis? If, over time, their were more interesting female protagonists in games, would that be a bad thing? Would you really miss female characters that only served as brainless sexy window dressing?
I don't think anyone is advocating for the total elimination of sexy ladies in games. I think they would prefer if there were more dimensions to their personalities though. There are feminist critiques of Bayonetta, however there are feminists who see Bayonetta as an empowering representation of femininity, even with her entirely unrealistic proportions.
What feminists want is a variety of female characters in games of all personalities and body types, so that women aren't portrayed *almost exclusively* as subordinate sex objects. They don't want to remove skimpy, overtly sexual armor for females from games; they want male and female characters to have the same degree of variance with regards to how sexually or asexually they are depicted. In essence, they want male and female characters to have roughly the same potential level of depth, variety, and sexuality in gaming — and currently, they don't.
As someone who identifies with feminist ideas, I love video games, but you can play games, enjoy them even, and occasionally say to yourself "that's kind of fucked up".
I don't play video games to find something to jerk off to, keep objectification of women/men where it belongs, porn.
Yep, and then if you read the next part of my argument, you'd see that the reason I made that distinction is because mobile games are more gender neutral than niche titles.
What do gender neutral games have to do with anything? You were criticising the statistics based on what defines a "gamer"
Is that why ~40% of gamers are women?
"Gamer" is a broad term. How many of those woman gamers play only casual games on mobile platforms and social networking sites?
That's a very misleading statistic.
If you consider all video games, then it's actually closer to 51% women 49% men.
If you take away mobile games, then it's that 40% statistic you just cited
If you take away a few of the ultra popular games like Call of Duty and Borderlands, then it becomes more like 20%
Core gamers are still predominantly male-dominated, and publishers simply want to appeal to the biggest demographic.
Wait why are we taking out Call of Duty and Borderlands?
Wait why are we taking out Call of Duty and Borderlands?
they're too popular now. no true gamer would play them
"Gamer" is a broad term. How many of those woman gamers play only casual games on mobile platforms and social networking sites?
It doesn't matter because playing games makes you a gamer. Playing Farmville and playing Bioshock are the same fucking thing, there is no real distinction to be made.
because no true gamer would play them, duh
oh my god
you really went there
oh my god
you really went there
You started this whole fucking "No true [del]Scotsman[/del] Gamer" discussion you mong
It doesn't matter because playing games makes you a gamer. Playing Farmville and playing Bioshock are the same fucking thing, there is no real distinction to be made.
okay i guess eating a sandwich and eating a pizza is the same thing
and for that matter, it's also the exact same to eat air as it is to eat a steak
we should all just eat air, thats more resource efficient anyway
okay i guess eating a sandwich and eating a pizza is the same thing

Eating food is eating food. There are different categories of eaters, sure, such as vegans, foodies, meat lovers, what have you - but someone who eats is an eater in just the same way someone who plays games is a gamer.
okay i guess eating a sandwich and eating a pizza is the same thing

Eating pizza and a sandwich are the same thing because they're both food. You get different experiences but they're the same thing. Just like playing Skyrim and Farmville, or Call of Duty and Battlefield. They're all games, but each experience is unique. How do you not understand this?
no you!!!!
10/10 response you win the argument
ok i guess eating shit is also the same as eating gourmet lets all eat shit then
seriously thats the dumbest ive ever heard
okay i guess eating a sandwich and eating a pizza is the same thing

what a ridiculous comparison
in his example they're both playing something
in your example they're both eating something. eating a sandwich instead of a pizza doesn't make you more of a Food Eater or something
ok i guess eating shit is also the same as eating gourmet lets all eat shit then
seriously thats the dumbest ive ever heard
Wow I can't comprehend how stupid this post is
Then again this is coming from the same person who said this so I'm not fucking surprised
It doesn't matter because playing games makes you a gamer. Playing Farmville and playing Bioshock are the same fucking thing, there is no real distinction to be made.
It does matter, that's why I asked. You're avoiding the answer.
Bioshock does not have to cater to female players just because women play Farmville.
And all female discrimination in videogames comes from a lack of female game developers. Of course if we had an equal amount of male and female developers we would have more games everyone can enjoy. You can't force men to make female-friendly games because men have little understanding of what "female-friendly" is
ok i guess eating shit is also the same as eating gourmet lets all eat shit then
seriously thats the dumbest ive ever heard
So now you're equating casual games like Angry Birds to literal shit.
Textbook case of gamer elitism, folks.
ok i guess eating shit is also the same as eating gourmet lets all eat shit then
seriously thats the dumbest ive ever heard
ummm are you having a stroke i'm seriously getting worried here
This is the stupidest argument.

how do you not understand that different kinds of games require different kinds of tastes, and thus people who like such wholly different games are not the same demographic?
[editline]5th August 2013[/editline]
This is the stupidest argument.
yes
how do you not understand that different kinds of games require different kinds of tastes, and thus people who like such wholly different games are not the same demographic?
how does this tie into what constitutes a "gamer" then
ok i guess eating shit is also the same as eating gourmet lets all eat shit then
seriously thats the dumbest ive ever heard
Yes, that's right! If you don't play the video games I enjoy, you aren't a real gamer. You're just some whore begging for attention, yeah!
how do you not understand that different kinds of games require different kinds of tastes, and thus people who like such wholly different games are not the same demographic?
But they're still the same thing! Yes, they're different, okay, but Bioshock and Fallout New Vegas are both different, but would you consider people who play Bioshock as unworthy of the lofty title of "gamer"?
It's just a dumb way to justify excluding people from this sub-culture
how does this tie into what constitutes a "gamer" then
exactly my point
You can't force men to make female-friendly games because men have little understanding of what "female-friendly" is
I don't really think there's such a thing as men-friendly and women-friendly games (there's plenty of people from both sides that can like the same thing; Farmville has many male players just like your average dudebro FPS has many female players), but it wouldn't hurt to have more diversity within the game industry because then games might start avoiding the same tired tropes and BS most AAA games reek of.
exactly my point
That's a very dull point you have there.
But they're still the same thing! Yes, they're different, okay, but Bioshock and Fallout New Vegas are both different, but would you consider people who play Bioshock as unworthy of the lofty title of "gamer"?

you're saying that anything which is similar is the same
thats not true ok
exactly my point
that was a question
i really don't understand your point
