You have obviously not played a lot of japanese porn games
I'm pretty sure you're expecting rape if you buy a game called Rapelay or TENTACLE HENTAI RAPE. Holy shit, where did you pull this out of?
You have obviously not played a lot of japanese porn games
the irony is in those games they actually do typically have rape "warnings" in one way or another lol sorry to break it to you
again, rape is far different than most other forms of PTSD, and while it may be true that many rape survivors do check for that sort of thing, on the off chance that they didnt for whatever reason, it would not hurt. in fact, it would help. so why not. ALEX is saying "if they didnt check esrb, fuck them!" basically.
again with the box thing, he was saying "i dont want to put a warning on the box" like there is a physical retail box that says "RAPE!" or something on it that would decrease sales, which is absurd. I understand esrb ratings are on store pages for games sold online.
I'm a firm believer of all or nothing I suppose. With an uncle that experiences PTSD due to experiences with firefighting it seems off to be to only focus on rape victims with things like this. I've seen my uncle breakdown when it thunders outside so obviously you can understand where Im coming from.

uhh you didnt say that there weren't a lot of games which didn't warn you there was rape in them
you said there weren't a lot of games with rape in them period

well again, when are you going to see a game that has firefighting dropped into the middle of any other gameplay experience? I understand what you mean, but I think it's quite different.

maybe you should look up bdsm

obviously your feelings are much more important than rape survivors, or people who know rape survivors, etc, who buy your game.
If they didn't read the ESRB descriptors, fuck them. I agree with that statement. The ESRB content descriptors are easily visible on the store page and on the box itself and if people choose to ignore that, I already fulfilled my legal obligation? Why would I make an unnecessary screen to warn people a second time? I hate mandatory screens and honestly I don't care about such a minority of users. In fact, I have everything to gain from NOT warning people due to the unwarranted controversy so what incentive do I have?

Violence and rape goes hand in hand and I've been saying that the whole thread along with it being on ESRB.
Those rape survivors can feel free to make a game and put in as many warnings as they want.

Maybe his grandpa was watching him play GTA4 and he saw some firemen getting shot at?
Maybe he was watching him play Payday 2 and he saw a huge firefight around a firetruck with civilians scattered about?
It's not as if rape is the only type of PTSD that can happen in a game. Don't downplay other people's PTSD
Violence and rape goes hand in hand and I've been saying that the whole thread along with it being on ESRB.
it doesnt in videogames. 3 or so games depict rape. they do not go hand in hand.
ive been saying that the whole thread as well

Somebody blackmailing or threatening somebody for not fucking them also counts as sexual violence. These can all be considered rape, but aren't on par with Hotline Miami 2's brutal fucking-in-pool-of-blood rape, which is way more violent than what I mentioned.
BDSM can be considered sexual violence, consensual or not.
Those rape survivors can feel free to make a game and put in as many warnings as they want.
sounds like a plan.

PTSD can be a very random and strenuous thing. There were vietnam war vets who couldn't even look at a jungle without crying. I don't think you understand PTSD...

Oh, this argument. Putting the blame on the victim.
Why can't feminists make their own games and add as many female protagonist as they want?
Why can't gay people just make their own country and let people marry whoever they want?

Are you fucking shitting me? S&M is not sexual violence. It's a fetish. Even people with cutting and blood fetishes don't consider that "sexual violence".
Yeah, the act is violent and the act is sexual but that is not sexual violence.
The CDC's definition seems to agree
Sexual violence (SV) is any sexual act that is perpetrated against someone's will.
I was going tk go with the sims as opposed to a violent game, where there could be a house fire or something. My point is they could have a general PTSD warning in the beginning of the game, if you have PTSD please review the content of the game before playing or something like that
PTSD can be a very random and strenuous thing. There were vietnam war vets who couldn't even look at a jungle without crying. I don't think you understand PTSD...
i do, and by the basis of your statement simply seeing a firefighter would trigger ptsd, i don't see how them getting shot at ties into anything. by your own definition a E rated game would be just as likely to trigger said ptsd as GTA 4 would be
while there are minor triggers in all of life for ptsd victims, a depiction of rape is seeing what caused your ptsd, it is like watching every traumatic thing that happened in vietnam for a nam vet, it is like actually seeing the horrors witnessed within a burning building (for a firefighter with ptsd)

I would be totally fine with that! why not! any warning is better than none, assuming it listed the potentially triggering content of the game in specifics.

Don't play the victim card. I'm not going to cater to such a small audience because if I do, I have to cater to everyone's fucking needs and I don't want that.

Firefighting is an extremely dangerous, stressful job with a lot of weight on your shoulders to save trapped people who might be inside a building. Simply seeing a firefighter could trigger someone with a horrible case of PTSD, but someone with a minor case could very possibly be triggered from something involving firemen and a lot of explosions/fire/violence.

hello strawman how are you today?
cdc = esrb?
Yes, because they're defining the term, which turns out was defined by the World Health Organization. Anyone whose mind jumps to bondage when they hear "sexual violence" needs to pull their head out of their ass because that is a GIANT leap.

well i think there is a degree to how vague you can get. i stick by what i said in my post, the reason an actual depiction of rape is so different to me is because it is the event that would have directly caused said ptsd. of course people who can be triggered by something so "minor" as an image of a firefighter are/should be isolated and treated for their ptsd, as anyone else.

so now not only do people read esrb always before the buy a game, but look up the definitions for each term they use, and the developers adhere to those specific definitions
[editline]16th August 2013[/editline]
Isn't that also something certain rape victims would want to avoid?? Triggers are subjective so why would you rule out any of those? Honestly wouldn't a victim of rape/molestation in general want to steer clear of sexual assault/violence
All of those things might trigger a rape victim
Also BDSM play is always consensual and iirc sexual violence is always against ones will.
the reason we are singling out rape depictions, as i stated in a previous post, is because it is what directly causes their ptsd
rape victims are not victims? you heard it here first folks
I'm telling all victims of anything to fuck off because I shouldn't have to cater to anyone but myself. It's my project, I'm the one designing it. I'm the one developing it. If I don't feel like putting a warning in my game, I'm not going to. If you want to design a game or write a book or direct a movie and warn your audience of what to expect, fine but don't expect everyone else to because there is "potential for trauma if the wrong person reads/views/plays content.
That's ridiculous, there are measures in place to make sure that doesn't happen and if they don't read the rating descriptions, then yes they do deserve whatever is coming to them because I'm not going to waste my time programming a screen that does nothing but annoys and potentially deters people from playing my game.
