Why not just make a game that takes place on a planet that is the exact scale as Earth, have it be proper multiplayer and focus on making that one planet really worth it?
That wouldn't be a space exploration game, would it?
That does sound like a cool idea though.
I think this game is overmarketed. Seriously I can't believe that there are people with the game fucking preordered that somehow think the game is like an MMO. They got AAA advertisement for a game that is clearly not AAA, and the overhype is going to hurt them when reviews come along.
People expect way too much out of this game, I expected just a nice space exploration game, pretty much Minecraft in space w/o the whole building aspect and I was already sold.

It would have mostly the same limitations as long as it uses procedural generation. Admittedly any hand-made parts of the map would be seen by a lot more people, but unless you design the whole planet by hand there would have to be large areas with very few unique characteristics spacing out the much more distinct and detailed hand-made areas.

Yeah and they decided to throw some pointless survival shit in there so no free exploration for you, have fun stopping every five minutes to avoid starving to death or whatever equivalent they found.

Can't say what it'll be like in No Man's Sky, haven't paid that much attention to it really. Just most survival games released thus far are complete shit.

As far as it looks, there's just some environmental bar that fills up for radiation, temperature, w/e and when that gets in the danger zone its like oh, you gotta go back and twiddle your fingers until you can go out again. Keep it up though, and you can get an upgrade to your survival systems that adds an extra minute in between your thumb twiddling!
