The tech is definitely there, but it gets confused way too easily. Motion control is pretty worthless in its current state.
Whilst Move is really cool, I have low expectations for what will be done with it. Wii has destroyed all hope for motion gaming. [editline]10:59PM[/editline] Not that anyone wanted it anyway.
I have a feeling this is because there's two people on screen; with one person it may not be as "BONELEEEEEESS". But this is just a guess.
Jesus Christ Microsoft. This is going to flop so hard it'll be painful to watch.
It's like if you got a guy with cerebral palsy, broke all his limbs, and put him in a wind tunnel. Oh yeah and he can pass through himself too.
as silly as the bone-rigging looked, it was actually pretty impressive for what it was doing. Move and the Wii-mote simply triangulate an infrared point, whereas this was processing entire people on the fly.
If there was a fighting game for Kinect, you would lose every round because you end up punching yourself.
impressive in concept. execution needs some work, but it's got good hopes.
Look at tyranidman's comment towards Mannychillings remark as to how the Playstation move is better because it works. It's absolutely amazing how idiotic some people are in their facts... EDIT: I did not notice Scotland1's comment and you can ignore mine now.
it was horrible
Wow, that looks REALLY broken. At least Sony decided to improve on the Wii-mote concept.
Actually from the reports I've been hearing about, Move is still pretty laggy. I have a feeling Move is going to come out about as laggy as the original Wii Remote, and it'll take them a while to catch up and remake it so that it matches Wii Motion Plus. Personally my view on motion control is that we don't really need it, at least not yet. It certainly does work toward making games more accessible to older and younger people by simplifying the control scheme, but we just aren't to the point yet where it really directly improves any games. There are a few gems so far that really shine with it, like Metroid Prime 3, but overall some games and their control schemes just make me wish that the game didn't have motion controls at all, like in all the Super Mario games they've done on Wii so far. SMG, SMG2, NSMBW; All of these would have been just fine without motion controls, and in NSMBW's case, it felt a bit forced. "Shaking" (or "waggling" :v:) is the worst kind of motion control, as it just replaces a button with jerking the controller around indiscriminately.
It's like I'm the only one who likes to play with a controller.
Guys... seriously, using a webcam in a DARK room is never clever, it's obviously working pretty well even for those crappy lightning conditions...

can't wait for this motion control fad to blow over
I remember saying that Kinect (Natal) would work like ass back when it was announced, no-one listened to me.

You couldn't do milo with a wiimote. But even in situations where a controller of some sort might be more apropriate, it still excels. In that I still recall vividly how retarded it looked at the EA conference when after seeing people just seamlessly jump into the game, quite literally, to the EA guy having to bend down to pick up a controller and fiddle with his thumbs for a while. It removes the barrier between the player and the game. That's not something these other motion controls can ever do. Quite amusing that Microsoft would choose "Jump In" as their slogan, as it is now more true than ever.
This so fucking SUCKS they should've invested 1000000000 times more money in it and researched for 10 more years and THEN show what they've got, now they just make themselves look like an ass.
can't wait for this motion control fad to blow over
It's not going to "blow over", it's going to be more integrated into the default consoles themselves. What's going to hurt Move and Kinect is that they both have a limited market due to the fact that they're optional add-ons. Developers are going to be hesitant to develop motion-controlled games for these consoles since not everyone is gonna have the Move or Kinect. I'm willing to bet that the next generation of consoles are gonna have motion-controlled devices included in the default packages; that way developers don't have to risk developing for a limited market, and can put more effort into developing games with the control scheme they choose.
Microsoft is going to relaunch the Xbox as a package of the new slim and Kinect, no?
Maybe the reason why the avatars were spazing out was because the lightning in this demonstration was TERRIBLE? And that they were wearing BLACK? So that the camera couldn't capture SHIT? Also, Song is catchy. What is it?
I can't wait for the games industry go back to regular controllers and hardcore games.
Also, Song is catchy. What is it?
I thought that the song was shit. Very shit.
Kinect's capture resolution was dropped to 640×480 or something like that. Sucks, but shouldn't lag anymore. Also, those lightning conditions sucked ass. I'm just going to wait and see how this turns out.
0:35 onwards...
I'm looking forward to playing with this for about an hour or so. But not for long.
