Jazz Jackrabbit 2 has all the flaws fixed, and is one god damn awesome game though.
I agree with you on all parts moose, but I really hope you do Jazz 2. 2 is so much better, I hope you at least try it. I played it excessively as a kid, the controls are perfected, it's zoomed out, it has a much better difference in enemies, little copies as far as I know.
People had Mario or Sonic. I had Jazz. [sp]Spaz is better though[/sp]

Me too. JJ2 was for kids who had entirely too much #swag for Mario.

Really hope you'll review the sequel too, it's way better
One of the most popular comments seems to be that the second game is better. I only played the first one as a kid, and I'm pretty sure it was just the shareware one. Maybe I'll give the second one a try!
why don't more popele watch your videoos :c
If it makes you feel any better, I was going to post it myself last night, but that jackass was DDoSing the site, so I couldn't. You beat me to the thread!
Jazz Rabbit was one of my favourite games as a kid. I must have been only 5 years old when I was playing it. Brought back memories. Though I do remember having a pet parrot in the game.
Yeah, I played it a lot when I was young, too.
That and Descent.
Descent is better.
Fun review there, I lost it at the mexican music. :v:
That was admittedly one of my favorite parts too, haha.
Best parts for me were the "Devon" and "why would you play a game just for its music, you wouldn't do that... would you?" parts. Your style is just so funny!
Devvvvaaaaaannnnnn...
Thanks as always for the support, guys! Glad to finally have something new to show you.

So not to rush things, but do you already have your next game lined up?

I actually have a partial script for a video I haven't decided if I'm doing yet.
It's not a review, though, it's something different. I'd like to do a video where I don't have to do research and analyze things to get it done, that can be a bit monotonous after a while.
As for my next review, I have not picked a game.
No rush.
You wouldn't buy a game for the music bit was hilarious.
Even just the opening was funny.
-snip-
apparently not.
Thanks OP.
your review brutalmoose was quite "epic". *rim-shot*
Watched your most recent review. You used the same recording of El Jarabe Tapatío that I did!

That's what happens when you got a funny face like mine.

I assume that's what they were implying, haha.

I browse a lot. I do those little post rating things pretty frequently, but I don't usually post in other threads.

I think as long as you make sure that a glitch isn't caused by the emulator I say go for it.

Yeah, I was confused on why you asked that. Lots of reviewers use emulators. I think Two Best Friends have occasionally done so.
Yeah as long as you do your research about what is actually part of the game and what is just a flaw of the emulator it'd be fine.
e.g. sound is a difficult topic when covering emulated games as many emulators do not reproduce sound correctly - in my experience genesis/megadrive emulators often have this issue. (I'm speaking from experience with Gens32 and Kega Fusion here.) Sometimes a sound is not the intended sound, or music is not reproduced as originally intended and so on. This problem is exacerbated if the emulator is not running at a stable framerate - sound playback is often directly tied into the timings and is distorted by sluggish performance. Emulators often have interpolation algorithms to correct for such behaviour but of course that moves the sound even further away from an accurate reproduction.
In practice, the older a console you're attempting to emulate, the less this is an issue. For example, as long as your system is up to it, bsnes should give a near-perfect reproduction of a game - whereas you're lucky to even approach anything close to any kind of accuracy with a Playstation 2 emulator.
That's a singular example of some of the difficulties in my opinion, but as long as you have access to original footage to compare against, or are otherwise versed in the differences, there's no problem reviewing emulated games. Especially if the focus is kept on the gameplay anyway, and not bugs and other technical issues.

It just... I dunno. I'm still not okay with it, yet. For one, I'd have to get a USB adapter to let me use the actual controller, at the very least. But, I mean, if there WAS something that happened in the emulator that I bitched about, I'd feel bad if it wasn't actually a part of the game. There's just a lot of what-ifs, it seems like.
I'd feel a lot better reviewing something I played on the actual console, just like I'd feel better watching a review of something played on the actual console. But so far I seem to be the only one that's hesitant on it. Everyone else seems to be pro-emulators.
We'll see.

If you use an emulator you're disallowed to bitch about controls or glitches
If you use an emulator you're disallowed to bitch about controls or glitches
If he emulates anything except the wii or the DS then he is allowed to complain about controls if he hooks up a PS3 or xbox 360 controller. All gamepad controllers are pretty much the same these days.

I imagine the controls would never be 100% the same as they would be with the original console + controller.
I imagine the controls would never be 100% the same as they would be with the original console + controller.
PS1 and PS2 use the same control scheme it uses now.
Xbox uses the same control scheme.
There might be a couple unused bumpers on the gamecube but it still is nearly identical (I have set up my PS3 controller to be used with a GC emulator).
And if he is emulating really old stuff like the SNES or other consoles of the like there aren't many buttons, so one could even set it up to be used with a keyboard.
Only time it might get weird is the DS or other handheld devices. You gotta set up some fancy bluetooth contraption to get wiimote to work on PC.

Yeah, that's what I would think.
In any sort of console adapter to PC, there's going to be some form of input lag because the converter is the middle man in the equation. Plugging directly into the console allows for direct input, but plugging it into an adapter that plugs into the PC will take those few precious milliseconds and make them seem like eons.
I made this little image to support my side.

Its kinda big

Almost all the controllers are the same. Get a PS3 controller, get motioninjoy ps3 to PC driver, configure emulator to use it as input.
As for control lag, I used PS3 controller for racing games like TDU2 and I never noticed any button push to actual action lag using the PS3 controller and the motioninjoy software.
Now if you got a capture card that would work too. But allowing yourself to emulate games opens up massive possibilities.
