Look how long we had 480p for before they started sending HD signals. If TV's started to up the resolutions, those 720p signals for TV's will start to look shitty, say if TV's go 1440p. And the horsepower for a 500 dollar console to drive 1440p, are just no. If Nvidia's Maxwell architecture is as good as they say it will be, then sure a console running a nvidia gpu should be able to handle a 1440p resolution. But, if TV's come out as 1440p capable rather than native, than that's a whole different story.

So they feel like it's their pride to defend all naysayers against their holy relic. But when they get older they'll soon find out it's all really the same thing wrapped in a different package.

I'd say 1080p will be standard for HD for the next 7-10 years.
