Holy shit. It really is like 30 dollars. Minecraft is not worth 27 dollars. Maybe 20. But not that fucking much.
This sounds like he would love Terraria.
Minecraft was almost as big of a disappointment as Duke Nukem: Forever
This sounds like he would love Terraria.
they already "reviewed" terraria though it was their usual parody review style
Minecraft was almost as big of a disappointment as Duke Nukem: Forever
I would hardly say that Duke Nukem Forever was a disappointment. Outdated, maybe, but not a disappointment. It delivered on everything it said it would.
I would hardly say that Duke Nukem Forever was a disappointment. Outdated, maybe, but not a disappointment. It delivered on everything it said it would.
What I expected was a good game. In the end it turned out to be at the very least a decent game and in terms of decent games it's very low in the ladder.
I'm pretty sure that if Minecraft was a "good" looking game, no computer could run having a land that large. But yeah, i pretty much agree with everything. Still enjoy Minecraft though.
It's possible. Just a lot of optimization, view distance tricks among other things. But I think what RockCock64 was talking about wasn't what we see as "modern graphics" but more of it's own artistic style. You think TF2 looks good right? It isn't very realistic but it looks good. I also agree 100% on the dungeons. The game should focus more on adventure and cave exploring, and keep the building as it is now.
Jesus fucking Christ, a serious review by The Best Gamers? What is this world coming to? He made some mistakes, but he still had a lot of valid points. I especially agree with: 1. Lack of actual art style: the picture at 2:52 sums it up. It used to have an actual art style (with the NPCs at least), but then shifted away from it. I understand that it might be harder to make custom player textures, but still, the old kinda-cubic kinda-curvey style seemed nice. It's not like the npc's need to be blocks to help rendering issues; that's only for the landscape. At least there's texture packs. 2. Dungeons being useless: pretty much. It would help if they didn't have a bunch of holes running through them. At least there's user created content. 3. Going in tons of directions and specializing in none: again, pretty much. The combat doesn't have to be super detailed, but it would be nice for it to be more complex than it is now. Back to the dungeons: again, would help if they weren't made like swiss cheese. The NPCs are useless so far except for atmosphere. It would be nice if he put in a bunch of different modes. Not just "survival" and "creative", but split survival into more of an RPG mode (quests, hunger, full dungeons, etc.) and a light survival mode (less emphasis on rebuilding things, but still some element of danger), et cetera.
This sounds like he would love Terraria.
Funny you should say that... It's worth mentioning that the devs' PR guy severely damaged his company's reputation by attempting to take this video down.

But really, Terraria is doing a great job at adding to the game. I wish Minecraft had the same amount of content. I know it's 3D with unlimited worlds, but Terraria just has a really good combat system, items, and equipment. And just TONS of "stuff"

I got bored of both of them very fast but Terraria didn't even last me 10 hours before I did absolutely everything. Of course there's a huge update coming so that's good.
yeah redigit is fine with me but i greatly dislike blue
blue got fired fyi
God damn, everything ROCKCOCK64 brought up is absolutely true. Minecraft is a buyers remorse for me, because: "Look at all these cool features we're going to add!" Game gets released: "Nope, sorry, we didn't add even a half of those features."
Anyone know the music at like 8:40ish?
I do wish notch would add more RPG elements to the game, armour, stats all that good shit. But that'll never happen
I actually agree with pretty much everything he said, and fucking hell, there's been proof of notch directly stealing parts of mods :v: (I think it was the potion stands?). And it's pretty boring without mods like equivalent exhange, buildcraft, industriualcraft, etc.
As much as I have defended Minecraft over the last year, he's totally right. Oh well. I'm still satisfied with the purchase, given that I enjoyed my time playing it with friends while it lasted.
Oh fuck that skull made me jump.
That skulll was hilarious, and the end where he goes to that guys deviant art and reads his poem was amazing. Rockcock64 is the only one I can stand listening to as the others sound like they are trying way too hard.
i think i can post this here
Other then the complaining about the graphics(I see where he is coming from though) I agree with just about everything he said the devs did get lazy and rode off the blind fanboys for its popularity
To be honest, minecraft has huuugge potential and it's a shame it hasn't developed that much across time. There are minecraft mods that literally add entire new dimensions to the game- Equivalent Exchange, BuildCraft, IndustrialCraft, all of them massive endgame Minecraft stuff, they're basically the equivalent of Gmod wiremod, if not more. Hell, I would add the Aether mod to this list as well if the mod devs weren't such massive dicks. Updates to minecraft could have been so fucking awesome, yet what do we get? Snowmen. Dungeons that serve no fucking purpose. A boring dimension with a boring boss fight leading to a boring "ending" to a game that doesn't need one. This game is only worth it for the mods really.
I agree with graphics, he hired a really good artist and never had him do anything for the game apart from the "Minecraft" title
I agree with graphics, he hired a really good artist and never had him do anything for the game apart from the "Minecraft" title
Actually the artist wanted to turn Steve into some anime Frog girl and do other unfitting things. But yeah I agree with you that we need some better graphics.
I agree with graphics, he hired a really good artist and never had him do anything for the game apart from the "Minecraft" title
He ended up firing Dock because it was too hard to work in a team. Paraphrasing, he actually said "It was too hard to get animations working" or some shit.

V:v:V Hoping 1.1 adds more endgame stuff.
Everyone seems to be disappointed and angry that Notch took their money and didn't do as much as they expected him to do with it, but personally I don't think you should've been buying promises in the first place. When I ponied up the $13 during Infdev, I was paying for Infdev. I thought the Infdev stage of Minecraft already offered more hours of gameplay than most other games coming out at the time and it was definitely worth $13. Anything added after that point only sweetened the deal for me. I don't see it as money wasted, I see it as my money being stretched far beyond the original value. Multiplayer survival alone made everything worth it - I've had way more fun with that than I have with any other online multiplayer game in the past year, save for maybe Team Fortress 2 (which I consider to be yet another game that's stretching my dollar...and also has tons of people bitching about it). I can definitely see why some people are complaining about the final 1.0.0 version...because now you would be paying $26 for a 'complete' package. The current feature set is what you get and if you don't like it, then it isn't worth your money. Don't buy it if the current set of features isn't worth $26 to you. But most of the people I've talked to who are complaining about how 1.0.0 turned out are people who bought it waaay back when it was $13. They loved the shit out of it back then and we've had a great year of multiplayer fun. I don't understand why, now that it's called "1.0.0", it's suddenly a waste of that $13 you paid over a year ago and Notch is considered a jew who made you poor. You shouldn't have payed for promises and rumors, you should've payed for what Minecraft was at the time you paid for it. Bottom line: If you haven't bought Minecraft yet and you think 1.0.0 isn't worth $26, then don't buy it! It's obviously not worth it! If you bought Minecraft ages ago and are only just now getting mad that Minecraft isn't what you thought it would be, then that's your own problem. I don't know why you'd pay $13 for Indev/Infdev if you thought it was shit back then.
It's not $30, it's 20€. Don't be complaining just because Europeans get a game cheaper for once. [editline]25th November 2011[/editline] Also honestly I really like the current graphics.
It's not $30, it's 20€. Don't be complaining just because Europeans get a game cheaper for once.
Actually, when you buy it it converts the Euro price to USD. It actually charges you $26.95. People just like to round that number up.
