Strange trailer [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] OH this isn't a Metro 2033 thread shit
Why would Metro 2033 have a trailer? It's been long released
Why would Metro 2033 have a trailer? It's been long released
That's why I said strange trailer, don't mind me, I'm blind
Yeah, and in the end, it wouldn't matter because I wouldn't care because I was dead. It may sound selfish, but I'd rather live a long life full of experiences good and bad, rather than die and be idolized as a martyr in a world I won't be alive in to comprehend.
Uh, you wouldn't exactly be alive to comprehend your life full of experiences anyways, you'd be dead whether you died on Mars or died on Earth, the difference being that you could either be another statistic or you could be the beginning of a new statistic on a whole new world. Hell, who's to say you'd sacrifice your past? You could be the guy who lived a life full of "experiences" and then still get to be one of the first to live off world. And because of technology, you'd be far more immortalized than any of the people in the past. You could have supremely high quality pictures and videos of yourself that would be preserved for the rest of humanity vs old grainy pictures or simple journals. But hey, being generic and wanting a standard life is cool too.
It may sound selfish, but I'd rather live a long life full of experiences good and bad, rather than die and be idolized as a martyr in a world I won't be alive in to comprehend.
if we're thinking about what does and doesn't matter after you're dead, you might as well top yourself now, because you and every last one of those experiences will dissipate like steam in the cosmic equivalent of the drop of a hat.
So I went to apply. There's a $38 registration fee. What do? [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] Seriously, do you guys think this is a scam?
The whole 38 dollars thing is a fucking scam if they were serious about this they do what everyone else does and just ask for donations. I'm not saying the fee is bad but $38 is too much maybe $10 but even thats kinda busting someone's balls.

Mars-one has felt scammy since the start.
Well I guess that didn't want a spam of people so they added a cost.
This isn't some ARG thing. I've been following Mars-One since before it had a website up. I was one of the first to ask about going. Even if it is a scam, I'm probably going to register and apply at some point. It doesn't hurt, especially since I've got 38 dolla to spare.
That sounds so weird. Just be sure about what you do, this will be the biggest decision you could possible take in your life.
38 bucks for a revolutionary trip to another planet? Sounds like a joke from Futurama or something.
read title as metro 2033, i was like what the fuck does this have to do with anything and i only copped it at 2 minutes in..
Well I registered an account.
Hell no, I ain't going there. Have y'all forgotten DOOM?!

the video just makes me think of red faction [editline]23rd April 2013[/editline] miner scum
Uh, you wouldn't exactly be alive to comprehend your life full of experiences anyways, you'd be dead whether you died on Mars or died on Earth, the difference being that you could either be another statistic or you could be the beginning of a new statistic on a whole new world. But hey, being generic and wanting a standard life is cool too.
Look, I hope I'm not being selfish when I say I would rather live a long life than die young. If I could do this when I'm 80 and have cancer and still be remembered as a hero, sure. I know it'll change the world, blah blah blah, but it's a world I won't live to see, and someone else will do it if not me. I'm not here to be a hero or live a generic life, I just want to use this brain and live as much as possible, and as long as possible before I die. The greater cause won't matter to a dead man. I know it's selfish, arrogant even, but a martyr for greater things is not something I want to become. Oh, and I love your youtube vids. Great work on those, you've entertained more people than I ever will in my lifetime.
To be honest if 38 dollars is making you consider applying then going to mars for the rest of you're life is not for you.
That's... a pretty good point, actually.
To be honest if 38 dollars is making you consider applying then going to mars for the rest of you're life is not for you.
Not really, the 38 dollars tips you off to the idea that its a scam, like the guy you quoted said.
I'd like to imagine paying a $38 fee to ride a rocket is comparable to 50 cents in order to ride a bus. If enough people want to do it, they can be sent in bulk. I don't see how it's possible for them to even make a ship that holds nearly enough people to even do that. What if they used up a bunch of credit cards to afford a ship and went to Mars to avoid paying a cent?
pretty sure he meant the Adeptus Astartes type, and that means BFGs are tech heresy
Damnit, My dreams of blowing shit up with green radioactive balls will never come true.

Well fuck me then, a man can dream
The narration voice seems very familiar.... www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugT9uPG51Ko
I don't think it's a scam. But I think it's an overly ambitious project that will not succeed.
Mars One became a not for profit foundation (Stichting under Dutch law) in early October 2012

The project is endorsed by Nobel Prize-winning physicist Gerard 't Hooft
Many well known advisors.
Not really, the 38 dollars tips you off to the idea that its a scam, like the guy you quoted said.
Actually, the 38 dollars doesn't tip you off that its a scam, it just raises a few red flags that it might be. It may be a poor choice of getting extra funding for the project, but they could be implementing it so A. Prevent B. To deter people who would sign up without giving too much thought and if picked would just not show up/be a bad canidate for the project.
what if this is all a marketing campaign for a new game
Marsbase alpha
I'd be up for shooting beacons around space for other races to pick up and be like 'wtf is that'

There is a legitimate chance that someone who has registered will become one of the first people to set foot on Mars. They'd be the next Neil Armstrong. They'd be quite literally be the first people to ever see another planet for themselves.
I absolutely love space, but I can't help but to think that this is a really bad idea and won't end up well. If they are going to stay till the day they die, it should at least be a big colony, not just a few "huts".
