Nostalgia Critic: Top 11 GOOD Things from the Star Wars Prequels

Only disagreement I have is that the score shouldn't have been just 11.5, but actually a fully-numbered and discussed "good thing". Sure, it's because it's basically the same quality as the originals, and because John Williams is a soundtrack god, but it's easily one of the best parts of the trilogy as a whole.
How was he a badass? He was a cardboard cutout of a character. He had no motivations and he didn't even say or do anything with a purpose. We knew almost nothing about the whole plot the emperor was hatching, so his actions were almost incomprehensible and they had no consequence. The only "badass" thing about him was that he wore a black cloak and had a red face.
Darth Maul was only there to show the Jedi that the Sith were back.
The only thing I agree with on this list is the Emperor, because he's one of the few actual characters in the series. Like, he actually has some emotion, motivation, he takes action, etc.
ewan mcgregor played obi wan very very very well. i actually hope he's in the new ones as a force ghost

He has about as much character as Boba Fett and look where that went.
Didn't mention the Clones.
I feel like nobody should critique the prequels since RLM said everything that needed to be said with 100% accuracy
I think ewan mcgregor and the emperor were the only reason I didn't hate the prequels
oh and I got a lot of fun out of the prequels, I remember sitting in a theater watching Episode III thinking "wow, I'm actually watching a Star Wars movie in a theater, and I won't ever get to experience this again". well, guess I get another go with the sequels.
I grew up with the prequals (im 15) and the first Star Wars film I saw in cinema was Episode 3
I always thought Episode 1 was a little silly, However the action of both Episode 2 and 3 was amazing compared to the sequals. I enjoyed the huge fight scene at the end of Episode 2 especially.
or are really impressed by "big different worlds" then you sound like someone who looks at every thing from the surface.
Soaking in the beautiful visuals is a big part of the appeal for 2001: A Space Odyssey but I guess it's more subjective than anything. How they gave every world its own architecture and personality through large visual shots is really nice.

First: I put quotations on "big different worlds" because the prequels failed to present such, and this shouldn't infer I just hate any movie that tries. Like seriously, you think I dismiss 2001?
The prequels are boring because no matter how big and diverse the environments are, the majority of the movie's scenes are just boring hallways of said environments. Rarely do characters in the prequels react to the environment they are in. The only memorable location from the prequels I could say was impressive and memorable was the Pod racing arena, and that is mostly because of the N64 game for me atleast.
I don't really get why everyone freaks out over the Yoda thing. Arguably the most powerful jedi in the galaxy is gonna fight fucking nutso. Everyone's like "aw man well he doesnt even use the force really he just flips" but it's very obvious that every move he makes is assisted by the force, he's literally channeling it in order to make every more far more dangerous or unexpected.
I know Yoda was a wise old sage who didn't use his saber in the original films, but you need to understand that almost all of the combat with lightsabers was done between a bunch of old fucks in the originals. I think NC was right on the head when it came to the little joke scene from A New Hope where Vader and Ben reminisce about the Mustafa battle. They're old as fuck so obviously they're all going to adopt much less energetic fighting styles.
Yoda referred to the lightsabers as simple tools in the Originals, and to have him doing flips with a baby lightsaber besmirches a character who before appeared to be above physical fighting.
It's just silly and shows a director who made a scene just cause he could without thinking about what it contradicts to past portrayals of his characters.

I was in 3rd grade when Episode III came out, and I remember seeing Episode II in theaters as well. it was a lot of fun. And yeah I agree, that battle was hella dope.
my mom remembers standing in line for Episode VI way back when :D
the battles in the prequels are all kinda silly, save for the darth maul one, but even that had its flaws

I actually really like the slow paced battles of the original trilogy more. It makes the Jedi seem like Knights or Samurai, putting all of their effort into being the most efficient, blocking blows and trying to break the enemy's defense. It also makes them seem more honorable.
Compare this to the prequels where they're flinging around like a bunch of flashy gits. This kinda goes in hand with Yoda, he should be using fucking terrifying force powers that basically destroy everything around him. Think of him using a huge force blast that rips everything off the floor and crumbles or destroys everything else.
11.5: Music
I can't believe he almost doesn't mention this. The music is definitely the one part where everyone can agree it's good and just as amazing as the original trilogy.
11: "better" lightsaber fights
He couldn't miss the mark more than he did on this one. Sure, the fights in OT had wooden choreography but each time they had enormous weight to them. In the prequels they just feel like contests who can make the most complicated move or the highest number of jumps.
10: Less Jar Jar with each movie
Just because he tried to fix his mistake doesn't mean it should be considered a good thing. The only reason we saw less of him is surely because Lucas noticed people hated the character and it could lead to less profit if he wasn't pushed to the background.
9: Yoda kicking ass
Both him and Emperor shouldn't have used lightsabers. Them using anything else than Force in fights was a mistake. Putting them in fights was a mistake.
8: The mind trick scene from EP2
Sure, anything that let us forget about the politics and dark atmosphere of the prequels is good. Plus it features McGregor.
7: Padme revealing she's pregnant
I personally felt nothing but that's because both actors felt wooden in that scene to me.
6: Hayden Christensen
I personally think Hayden was the perfect actor for Lucas' vision of young Anakin. Unfortunately many people, me included, didn't like Lucas' vision.
5: Intro to ROTS
Yeah, that part was pretty cool. Before the dialog started and before Palpatine tried to leave Obi-Wan to die.
4: Ewan McGregor
I would place him maybe on the highest spot. Out of all characters and actors he annoyed me the least and actually made parts of the prequels enjoyable. (Except for EP1 were he's a bit bitchy.)
3: The Emperor
More or less the same deal like Yoda, fortunately he didn't do "badass" stuff until EP3.
2: "The different worlds"
Better CGI with better technology. There were a lot of different worlds, unfortunately most of them felt very lifeless.
1: The opera house scene
Eh, to me the scene felt very unconvincing and it falls into the Emperor category. It's mainly because the whole trust between Anakin and Palpatine was pretty badly developed.

Episode II could have been the best movie in the prequel if they cut out all the Anakin scenes. The whole mystery of the clones and Obi-Wan investigating it were the best and most interesting parts. And the fight with Obi-Wan and Jango Fett was much more interesting than any of the other lightsaber fights.
