The Hugbox Chronicles - Episode 5 (Tumblr vs. 4chan)
That whole 'raid' was fucking hilarious. What I caught of it, it was one or two or three people posting extreme gore, then the tags got flooded with 1000+ 'recovery' posts. Then another gore picture. Followed by 1134234+ recovery posts, flooding the tags with unrelated content. It was glorious. I hope they do it again.
It's not over.
It's never over.
what irks me more about this situation is all of the youtube outlets taking advantage of this situation for views (then again, that's what they're trying to do most of the time). if you want to even consider helping in defusing this dramatic fuckpile, you either don't report it or you do so in the most technical, boring and straight-forward fashion possible. it's like i'm reading a tabloid in a gas station when i'm looking at this video.
ITT: People thinking facepunch is any better than 4chan
ITT: People thinking facepunch is any better than 4chan
Been here 8 years, and well I'd say facepunch atleast used to be "better". But nowadays I can't help but to notice how every thread about feminism or gun rights threads get showered in endless opinion arguments.
To each his own I guess, I'd still much rather surf FP instead of 4chan or Tumblr.
Yeah really. You can say "oh different types of boards" but it's still generally speaking the same kinds of people that visit those dumb sites
i visit tumblr to see posts about architecture and cars, some people visit it to see funny stuff, some people visit it to stay updated on their favorite artists, etc etc
you really can't say that a website with hundreds of millions of users that's literally made for people to post their own content only caters to one group of people

tumblr is so sectional, you could hardly group it into one big cespool
the people who were mainly affected by this were fandoms and sj blogs, meanwhile i didn't even know there was a "raid" happening because my entire tumblr dash is photography and art, and I frequent the site quite often
tumblr is designed so you're fed content you WANT to see, if you see something you dont want then the site gives you an option to block posts and unfollow users
They made one thread on /g/ and all we did was spam rms for like 20 min before a mod deleted the thread.
That poor girl who killed herself with an entire bottle of Flintstones vitamins.
I CAN'T GET THE CAP OFF
/b/tards were like "we're going to make the tag system USELESS" by spamming the popular tags like free!, dr who, marvel, feminism, sexism, tumblr, etc...
... nobody even really browses popular GIGANTIC tags in the first place to find actual content. it's just like googling "spiderman" when you want to find a specific gif or screenshot of some specific spiderman cartoon, because there's no way to search multiple tags at once, so you're better off searching #spiderman gif or #spiderman (cartoon name). i follow multiple tags and almost two thousand blogs and the only content related to this raid has been people warning others of the gore and shit in those tags.
and tumblr people are like "hey i am going to contact moot" or "dont go in those tags its very gross" or "oh shit they're sending death threats i am going to change my selfie tag/change urls/take a break," so the only people being affected by this are morons.
unless you're actively part of the ~raids~ or have had somebody tell you about them, this is completely ineffective on BOTH sides. it doesn't matter who started it or not, because these types of childish WEBSITE RAIDS are always started by mastermind trolls who want people to fight.
reusing this gif but it's a perfect explanation of the entire ordeal.
Boards like /tg/, /vg/ and /vr/ are pretty much self-moderated boards with a handfull of inhouse rules and are leagues away from boards like /v/ and /b/.
Different boards for different people yes, but the appeal is the same.
general rule of thumb for 4chan is that boards with more than 1 letter in its title will be inhabited by smarter people because /vg/ is harder to type than /v/
Well yeah, that was kinda the point. Morons poked a community saying it needed to go down and shit, and that community decided to have fun with the morons.
Also, comparing /vg/ to /v/ is dumb because their structure is very different, /vg/ has structured general threads based on one subject while /v/ is pretty free form with what they want to talk about as long as it's marginally related. /fit/, /co/ and /tv/ can also have idiots around.
my problem with 4chan in general is that its hard to find what i want. like, if i go on /v/ i can't just search "funny videogame fan art thread" or "thread about this current controversy" unless i want to spend an hour going through each thread and hope they don't disappear. like, sure, on /vg/ there's a bunch of structured threads, but it's still a pain in the ass to connect with people because nobody has profiles and there's no private message system and shit.
but on tumblr and shit i can follow "funny-videogame-fanart.tumblr.com" or follow the "#videogames" tag and get the exact content i want to look at whenever i want. that's why i like it better. it's also way easier to filter than 4chan, so... even if the community is "worse," i have more measures to ignore the morons.
If the source wasn't faked, which is a big IF
then there has already been one death (suicide)

/lgbt/ must be full of geniuses then
my problem with 4chan in general is that its hard to find what i want. like, if i go on /v/ i can't just search "funny videogame fan art thread" or "thread about this current controversy" unless i want to spend an hour going through each thread and hope they don't disappear. like, sure, on /vg/ there's a bunch of structured threads
They added a thread catalog and search system forever ago for this exact reason.
but it's still a pain in the ass to connect with people because nobody has profiles and there's no private message system and shit.
Anonymity is the point of 4chan.
but on tumblr and shit i can follow "funny-videogame-fanart.tumblr.com" or follow the "#videogames" tag and get the exact content i want to look at whenever i want.
It takes like 5 seconds to search for something in the catalog and if you don't find anything you can just make a thread yourself.
that's why i like it better. it's also way easier to filter than 4chan, so... even if the community is "worse," i have more measures to ignore the morons.
You can filter posts on 4chan based on keywords so you can easily shut out anyone who dares have a different opinion than you.
Your knowledge of 4chan is outdated as hell and you're shitting on it for what it's built around and most people use it for, maybe it's just not for you?
/vg/ is an enormous shithole compared to /v/ though, nice try.
4chan's alright if you just lurk it
it's really a mixed bag, particularly /v/, 90% of it is shit but the other 10% is what makes it worth going there.
/vg/ is an enormous shithole compared to /v/ though, nice try.
i used to browse /v/ a lot but now i just go to /vg/ for actual vidya discussion, hell of a lot more quality than /v/ has
i used to browse /v/ a lot but now i just go to /vg/ for actual vidya discussion, hell of a lot more quality than /v/ has
I see /vg/ go offtopic more, probably because people get bored of talking about the same things after 5000 threads. It's also tripfag central while /v/ doesn't have that many now.
/vg/ is an enormous shithole compared to /v/ though, nice try.
that isn't saying much since /v/ is pretty awful too
i feel like there's not a thread in /v/ where there's at-least one post calling the game in question shit.
i feel like there's not a thread in /v/ where there's at-least one post calling the game in question shit.
Of course. Just like there's no thread on /b/ where someone doesn't use fag or nigger.
I go to both because they offer different things for me. I can't easily have a structured discussion with multiple people about Shadowrun on Tumblr, but I can do that on 4chan. I can't just share with a bunch of people something I found that is cool on 4chan very easily, but I can on Tumblr.
They're different things for different people.

this is entirely wrong though. like, /r9k/ and /pol/ are some of the most notoriously angry and toxic boards on the site.
i really wish people were able to make anti tumblr sj videos or whatever without sounding like utter tools
every time someone posts a video by the guy in op i cringe at what a pompous cunt he sounds like
kinda like this guy, he explains it well without sounding stupid or pretentious:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLEd5e8-LaE
Its not pretentious, its just his use of sarcastic humor to make his point, and its a character, hence the name, and the picture....
Try not to be so literal people...
Basically people figured if they tell people online that they had very dark and though experiences and now have big emotional scars that are triggered by pictures of XYZ other people who do the same thing will give them attention.
In one word, attentionwhoring. Just another way of doing it.
Goes beyond that, its an excuse for these people to be bullies.
Ever wonder why republicans are so fixated and outraged about Benghazi when I'm sure most of them can't find it on a map? Its simply a tool, and excuse to club the democrats over the head with and justify any other actions they already intended on doing regardless. Its an offense, and outrage which is not genuine, used as an excuse to abuse other people. And that's what tumblr sjw do, they take every little thing and claim its the most awful thing in the world, a trigger that causes people to kill themselves, so they can demand censorship, bans and silencing of others...
i really don't understand the whole tumblr "triggers" thing, it really seems like it's just an attempt for edgy-ness/sympathy by being a sufferer of pseudo-PTSD.
if you want to even consider helping in defusing this dramatic fuckpile
Lol this isn't some pressing social issue
You poke the bear you should expect to get mauled, figuratively speaking.
Theres nothing to defuse. A few overly sensitive souls are going to have to find something else to do for a few days, and then 4chan will go back to 4chan and tumblr will go back to tumblr. Was there something else?
/vg/ is an enormous shithole compared to /v/ though, nice try.
Maybe the generals you visit are full of the game's own terrible community rather then the people that visit /vg/?
i really don't understand the whole tumblr "triggers" thing, it really seems like it's just an attempt for edgy-ness/sympathy by being a sufferer of pseudo-PTSD.
It's a formerly obscure concept that had its value drained through a sudden surge of self-diagnoses.
this whole thing is fucking stupid

i don't know why you went out of your way to make this big reply post to me when i was basically saying "i don't like 4chan because opinions," or where you gathered that i was shitting on the site or something.
i'm sorry i prefer to look at meaningless internet content on a different site, though!
i really don't understand the whole tumblr "triggers" thing, it really seems like it's just an attempt for edgy-ness/sympathy by being a sufferer of pseudo-PTSD.
Special (needs) snowflakes think they get internet points for pretending to have a panic attacks/fight-or-flight responses from reading a word or viewing an image. Because having a panic attack is TYPING MISPELELD WRODS IN BIG LETTERS AND WITH THOUSANDS OF EXCLAMATION AND QUESTION MARKS!!!!!!!!!??????? as opposed to, you know, having an episode that would prevent you from using a keyboard/phone. "I'M S O TRIGGERED RIGHT NOW I M IN LITERAL TEARS" is the stupidest phrase that can be written on the internet: if you were, I wouldn't read that.
Basically, they have way too much privilege and time on their hands and have to come up with ways in which they suffer to fit right in with others. That's circle of retardation that can only progress.
