Janeway was pretty terrible of a captain to alot of people including me. She was inconsistent as fuck with the prime directive.
Too self righteous also, but I guess she was pretty alright as a powerful female character. It felt natural instead of being shoved in your face like some do these days.
When I first heard about this movie I was kind of all about it and I definitely knew some kids who I work with who were excited about it too. Mostly because it was all girls and they typically would have a dad or an older brother who loved Ghostbusters enough to share it with them. But egh. The writing is mediocre, the jokes are hamfisted, and even if they'd had it with all new guy characters, it'd still be very... stale and not at all as fun as the first one. I was excited to see them hopefully do something cool and fun with an all female cast because the prospect was even nice to me but eh. It's like they really phoned in the whole "IT'S DIFFERENT" aspect and didn't put much more effort into it beyond that. I wouldn't mind more movies attempting to make an all female cast dynamic but boy can we at least put some effort into it beyond just hoping that it lives up to the hype behind the nostalgia? Cuz really this movie is just disappointing to me now. I'm not gonna discourage my kids to not see it because I'm sure they don't give a shit about writing or jokes or dialogue, they just wanna see a cool movie. But to me, it definitely falls short of what I expected.
This film reminds me a lot of Red Tails Remember that?
Like, it would have been so easy to make this a sequel. It's 30 years later. The Ghostbusters have pretty much caught all the ghosts, paranormal shit doesn't happen anymore. They're all retired, Ray watches the containment unit, but then paranormal stuff starts happening again because of the plot and they need to bring in new blood to actually go bust the ghosts since the original crew is too old/too retired/too dead. And then you can give it the tone of 22 Jump Street, where instead of skeptics saying the Ghostbusters are frauds, they say that the whole thing is a publicity stunt, banking on the recognizable brand of a notable institution. They could have done something interesting with this, but it all just feels so manufactured, which is the exact opposite of what the original Ghostbusters was. It just misses the point. Like, the original Robocop was full of blood and gore because it was a commentary on violence in the media; Robocop being a slow, expensive hunk of shit was the point of the movie. But when they remade it, they made it a PG-13 action movie with a sleek, agile Robocop. Same thing with this one; the original Ghostbusters wasn't about ghosts or proton packs or the theme song. It was ad-libbed comedy from a bunch of funny people wrapped around a pretty straightforward plot. You could replace the ghosts with roaches and call it "Exterminators" and it'd be the same movie. The ghosts are just set dressing. But now this new one comes out and it's the most scripted thing ever, with all the marketing putting emphasis on cool gadgets and big budget special effects. I feel confident in saying that Sony just didn't know what they had with this property, which is why it feels so off. You might even say [sp]it's got no soul.[/sp]
It really would be easy to do, I suppose literally, they could have pulled a force awakens route and just play it safe and just do the same things the first movie did. People would still EAT IT UP. Ok, you did that. Now you ride off that success, maybe mix things up a bit, and bam, you're set yourself up for more than 2 movies. You've won over fans and kids, now you're permitted to take it for a bit of a ride and maybe expand a little. Ok, now you have about 3 movies out, and ghost busters in your world are pretty big, and on the 4th movie you get your chance for an avengers level event like the director of this one wanted. Even if you fuck it up, you're going to get some good money. [editline]18th May 2016[/editline] all this movie just needs to be is the same, but new, and it'll be a hit
This film reminds me a lot of Red Tails Remember that?
The trailers for this movie makes Red Tails look like masterpiece theater
The trailers for this movie makes Red Tails look like masterpiece theater
Yeah but it's the same shit. A flop movie that will be successful because people are talking more about sexism than the actual film. How many black people saw Red Tails because "The studios don't want a movie with an all-black cast!"
Eh, it just looks mediocre. Like it doesn't look like garbage or anything it just looks kinda "eh". I figured this would happen regardless of gender, they just don't make comedy movies like they used to.
Fucking awful.
Second international trailer.
Maybe my humor is shit but some of these jokes are funny to me.
The "you have the longest arms" joke made me chuckle.
Second international trailer.
Goes from "make it end" to "almost tolerable" simply by dropping the black lady joke. "joke"
This actually caused me physical cringe. First actual trailer to do that.GOOD JOB SONY!
that race/lady joke what an embarrassment if you justify this movies existence you may actually have a severe mental issue and I feel nothing but terrible for you
tbh the joke actually makes fun of the people who scream "racism/sexism" when those two are irrelevant. the audience didn't catch her because she was fat, but she blames it on racism/sexism.
tbh the joke actually makes fun of the people who scream "racism/sexism" when those two are irrelevant. the audience didn't catch her because she was fat, but she blames it on racism/sexism.
tbh I hope the humor is that intelligent but it still didn't stick very well and didn't really fit in [editline]21st May 2016[/editline] tbh I say tbh too much, tbh
Second international trailer.
This is a way better one at least, and it does confirm that I think an all female cast would honestly work well only issue is if it's true that they aren't trying to hand the torch down and the old cast are just dumb second hand cameo's, then it's clear the story is just... going to be awful. They really need the old cast to be in it for the sake of being mentor figures, otherwise I just can't see it working.
tbh I hope the humor is that intelligent but it still didn't stick very well and didn't really fit in [editline]21st May 2016[/editline] tbh I say tbh too much, tbh
yeah I get where the joke is coming from and in that sense it's pretty good, but it's one of those things that only really sounds good on paper and out of context. in context, it falls flat because the context has nothing to do with it. although then the point becomes the context is that it's out of context and makes no sense in the first place and eugghhh
im still surprised that people are still defending this piece of shit with the whole black stereotype in there they made the black girl deliberately dumb as fuck instead of being empowering also all the females seem to be dumb as fuck as well and don't display any sort of strength, it's not even awkward its just "how does this work???" like enjoy the movie all you want but don't turn a blind eye to the fact that this movie, really in itself, is sexist and racist
So he dance number is real.
tbh the joke actually makes fun of the people who scream "racism/sexism" when those two are irrelevant. the audience didn't catch her because she was fat, but she blames it on racism/sexism.
I was thinking the same thing because why would you ask if it was a lady thing when they caught the other lady. But at the same time nothing has established that this character would make an ironic sort of joke like that. Maybe if it's contextualized in the full movie it will work but as it's own bit in a trailer it just comes off as genuinely awkward.
i'm amazed at how much the leaks match up especially [sp]the fucking logo ghost being in place of stay puft[/sp]
i'm amazed at how much the leaks match up especially [sp]the fucking logo ghost being in place of stay puft[/sp]
I like the idea of the logo doing that, it's actually somewhat clever but fucking [sp]ghost aliens, are you shitting me[/sp]
I still can't believe they kept dance routine in there. Plot leaks 100% confirmed
I love how everyone, even people who are excited for this, is saying "the international trailer is SO MUCH BETTER than the US one we got!". I mean, it pretty much objectively IS, but I only just realized that the only reason it's so much better is because it cuts out all of Leslie Jones aside from the very end. It's almost like the movie starts to look decent once you get rid of all the tired, lazy gendered jokes and racial stereotypes.
The worst part is how they used the exact same logo and theme, and kind-off the car and suits. I mean, had it been more spin-off like, and not trying to be so fucking similar to the original Ghostbuster, I might have forgiven it.

Nothing new at all.
whats with the Answer The Call subtitle at the end of the trailer? Did they renamed the move a month before it releases?
I mean like I see potential in this cast but their given these shitty type cast characters and this godawful script; some of these jokes actually got a titter out of me but it's only cause they deliver them well. Also people trying to call sexism / racism really ought to ask some questions about how lazy and cynically written these characters are; the "black thing or lady thing" joke if it's not an ironic sentiment is trying to capture genuinely good commentary and jokes on race and sex without having any of the meaning or wit in a way that just makes me godamn cringe.
I was thinking the same thing because why would you ask if it was a lady thing when they caught the other lady. Stereotypical movie black women are basically any black female characters in a Tyler Perry comedy and their entire personality revolves around "I'm a strong independent black woman who don't need no man." and nothing more. Expect the movie to reinforce stereotypes about black women, while trying to remove the stereotype that white women are weak and can't do anything.
i highly doubt that joke is meant to be seen as commentary.
