Because an entire group of people is negatively impacted at the expense of that fun.
No one group is being singled out, the game's asthetics represents every character in the game in a stylized fashion. And I'm loving this double standard of how we can say for certain that video games don't cause violence, but when it comes to sexism videogames DO cause sexism.
This is basically the same argument people used to justify racist cartoons in the 30s that you look back on in shame.
But those cartoons even if their intention wasnt to be demeaning to black people, they eventually were, portraying black people as nothing more than serveants to the main characters. This however is a diferent case entierly, the game is meant to be a fantasy game where you have super powers, and, big mythical creatures ready to beat you into a pulp, it's all about getting into someone else's shoes and exploring their potential as hero/heroine in a new world, it's nowhere near as bad as those ancient movies.

I mean I would understand your concern if both of those things were a mainstream AAA blockbuster and a legitimate awards show but you're just shoehorning in your personal argument over something really unrelated
I would have liked Papers, Please to win some awards but this was pretty damn cute Cis Privilege was hilarious too
so is a game that in no way states that all women are supposed to be sexualized "not the right place" for it?
This game could very well do it right if it's tongue-in-cheek enough, all I've been trying to argue is that doesn't make it progressive. Things get confusing and context gets lost when I have like five dudes jumping down my throat so I'm going to try to end this discussion on the friendliest note possible. It's just one of those things that isn't going to go in my favor and will just stress us all out
Too bad none of those games actually offered anything but walking and pretentious drivel.
Myst already did it in 1991, it's nothing new either.

Even if we don't agree maybe we can figure out why we disagree, and in my book that's about as important.
Video games don't cause sexism, sexism is just undeniably present in the industry and that's a problem that needs to be rectified
I can't disagree with that. What I do disagree with is the idea that sexual content is antithetical to the goal of bringing more women into the industry. Bayonetta was designed by a woman, dont'cha know. Sexualizing just for fun when the industry is currently experiencing serious introspection on its treatment of women is probably not acceptable. Doing it as a piss-take of the fantasy tradition doing the former is iffy, it depends on just how periodic it is
A woman was also animation director for Skullgirls and look at the kind of content that game had.
Wasn't a woman the lead writer for that one Japanese RPG where the main character raped everyone? Rance, I think.

Doing it as a piss-take of the fantasy tradition doing the former is iffy, it depends on just how periodic it is
Why? Gender disparity and workplace misogyny is bad. Sexy girl drawings are good(though your mileage may vary depending on taste). If a studio wants to make games with sexy girls, how does that keep women out of the industry or promote negative attitudes? The content may turn away some women looking for a job, but that's just artistic preference. I don't want to work at a studio that makes colorful happy things, but that doesn't mean colorful happy things are keeping me out of the industry. I'm curious, what are the eastern and western attitudes of "sexy"? I think it looks silly and overused here, but eastern creators like Go Nagai used it as a way of saying that politics/morality shouldn't interfere with art. When he started out, the older generation complained about his content constantly.
Sexualizing just for fun when the industry is currently experiencing serious introspection on its treatment of women is probably not acceptable.
I wish you would stop thinking women as over-sensitive individuals that cannot make a difference between what's real and fictional, and would get nervous breakdowns at the single sight of curves/boobs in vidya.
This comes to mind. [t]http://i.imgur.com/NZ1agrz.jpg[/t]
can i just point out that hideo kojima is the guy that tweets about how pixar's Planes is US military propaganda how would you feel if the west was represented entirely by quentin tarantino
can i just point out that hideo kojima is the guy that tweets about how pixar's Planes is US military propaganda how would you feel if the west was represented entirely by quentin tarantino
I'd fear the west
I wish you would stop thinking women as over-sensitive individuals that cannot make a difference between what's real and fictional, and would get nervous breakdowns at the single sight of curves/boobs.
are boobs and curves necessarily something that one has to endure in the first place? i hear a lot of dudes freaking out when they see sexy men, so i guess it makes sense. i think if you want to be an artist you need to be a bit more open to different subject matters though. [editline]20th March 2014[/editline]
I'd fear the west
Are you afraid of feet and fake ebonics?
I wish you'd stop blowing my words out of proportion because it's easier to write me off as some tumblr stereotype
Stop pretending to be a victim.
i hear a lot of dudes freaking out when they see sexy men, so i guess it makes sense
Did anyone freak out over naked Raiden in MGS2?
Stop pretending to be a victim.
Stop treating me like an idiot and I'll stop "pretending" you're treating me like an idiot
I wish you would actually stop being a tumblr stereotype, jesus christ man do you even read what you type.
Do you So far scorpio's the only one who's actually shown a willingness to try to see where I'm coming from and I think he'd agree while we don't see eye to eye I'm not being that unreasonable
Did anyone freak out over naked Raiden in MGS2?
i'm reminded of this http://www.gametrailers.com/videos/kpeix0/x-play--naked-raiden
