Mike Z is a bit of a dick and he makes cringe jokes but I don't think I've ever seen him insult someone without a reason.
If he says someone/something is shit he'll have a reason. It seems like he was just being his usual self, he told the Yandere Sim dev why his fighting game engine isn't good (and it seems like he gave him actual advice) but he also sprinkled on his trademark Mike Z side remarks

Weirdly enough, reading through that chat log actually gave me even more respect for Mike Z.
Yeah, he comes off as dickish, but when someone isn't listening to you, it's sometimes the only way to even get them to take notice.
Even then, at least he's being dead honest. If he wasn't and gave him nothing but positive reinforcement, then we'd probably see YandereDev's fighting game as a shitty Steam Early Access game that would get much more scathing reviews from the people who played it than Mike Z himself. Hell, Mike Z even makes that point.
I think the only thing I'm on the fence about concerning his words is the whole game engine aspect (though Unity is a very problematic engine at times), but I can understand where he comes from and am definitely impressed with the engine he made himself.

And my thoughts pretty much echo everyone else in this thread. Ignore the stupid emails (set up filters and shit), have discussion of the game happen on some sort of forum (or hell, use the existing subreddit), and maybe have a dedicated bug tracker. Make sure to also ignore the stupid posts in those outlets as well.
Maybe if he stopped reading emails so much, the game would have already been in the state he's wanting it to be for a Kickstarter to happen.
Also yeah, that whole post he made on 4chan about "turning depression into hatred" definitely wasn't the case. Essentially, he highly idolizes Mike Z (creator of Skullgirls), talked to him on IRC, sent him a shitty prototype of a fighting game made in Unity, Mike Z said it was bad (because he doesn't sugar coat things), and YandereDev was devastated and threw a fit. Apparently, he later discussed this with Mike Z again, realized he was in the wrong, and was apparently given some advice about game development.

This seems to be more of an issue of bad organization on his part than it is random people sending him unnecessary e-mail. There is absolutely no way to avoid children or incompetent volunteers from contacting him due to the exposure major Youtubers have provided this game. I don't know his process for reviewing e-mail, but I believe he needs to revise it and develop a new system for handling his heavy e-mail load.

Fuck, watching this video was painful. He clearly has some serious issues and has no business managing a project that has grown this big. This email problem is one of the most elementary problems that is encountered with big projects, yet he refuses to hire even a secretary, a professional trained to manage and solve the exact problems that he spend 20 minutes ranting about. He seems to want to keep this whole thing a one-man show because then he can get all the credit for it. Like someone else said earlier, he is a coder, not an artist, not a musician, and most certainly not a manager. For all the shit we like to give managers, they do a pretty important job of organising a group of people with different aims to achieve a common goal. He's clearly not fit for this job given how much effort he's put into ranting about one simple problem.
CEOs of billion dollar companies all employ secretaries with no issue, and indeed they need secretaries to be able to do their own jobs. I don't understand why he can't just get over himself and hire one.
I think I understand now. Yandere sim is dev's projection of his feelings towards Mike Z. Mike is the senpai and dev is Yandere, since he is/was obsessed with him.

This is why you shouldn't announce your game until it's done. People start thinking they're entitled to the content and they think they have a say in how you go about working on your project.

It's being brought up again because his problem with emails don't really seem to be tied with the emails themselves, but rather with YandereDev's tendencies of personality and attitude.
He may have gotten past his beef with Mike Z, but it doesn't seem like he's changed much for the better in terms of his attitude since.
I want to see the game succeed (hell, the game already has much more of a following than Skullgirls ever has), but with how he's managing things, it only starts to seem more and more unlikely.
