If I had that much money, I'd regularly upgrade to the latest and greatest computer hardware as well, because why settle for less when you can easily have the best there is? Him buying a phone every year is like a person with an average income buying a new pair of pants every year. You don't spend days pondering whether you should buy some pants or not because you might be wasting too much money, do you?
I have a goddamn flip phone from 5 years ago, was waterlogged twice and still works, has memory measured in KB, and it still meets my expectations. Not upgrading until it breaks.

I've never known a single person to pay over 200$ or 300$ for a phone of any kind, unless they were buying a phone without a contract.

life isn't about saving money, jesus christ. if someone likes their new iphone or android or car or whatever, then let them fucking buy it. it doesn't hurt you any and helps the economy and they're paying taxes

Exactly. I buy that stuff because I enjoy it. If I can get the stuff I enjoy without anything bad happening financial wise why shouldn't I?
