First half of SAO season 1 was amazing in my opinion. I loved the story, the characters, and the setting. The second half of season 1 can go die in a fire though. Could have done without that disturbing as fuck subplot.
Also the mother's rosario arc of season 2 was fucking fantastic. I legitimately cried at the ending. Basically the show has lots of ups and downs. The good moments are great but the bad ones suck horribly.
Idk, maybe I'm just really easy to please.
SAO S1 is shit too.
Really its only like the first 3 episodes of SAO that are watchable.
and then the main characters get married, leave the plot and go live in a sex cabin in the woods.
Everything after is dead.

I'm well aware it's not the greatest show on earth and far from one of the best.
Also everyone let's remember, top X lists are highly subjective. What's my favorite might not be yours. What's yours might not be mine, etc etc.
It's pretty sad how Anime turn a lot of people into pedophiles and faggots to be honest.
Here's a perfect example what Anime has done to Japanese men:

I can't tell if you actually believe this stormfront-level cherrypicked image or not
So many modern animes nowadays are hard to follow. Like how do they expect me to remember all of these Japanese names when I can barely recall all of the Game of Thrones characters.
Is it still popular to hate anime in 2016?
Konosuba, Umaru-chan, Log Horizon and (from what I've heard) Re:Zero and Fate Stay Night are all worth a watch. The other 3 are low tier garbage.
Overlord is boring and nothing happens. It does jack shit with it's premise too.
Sword Art Online is a show people say 'got bad' as the series went on. They're wrong. SAO was garbage from the beginning and devolved the longer it went on.
Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon is bad on 2 counts. 1) It's very generic and it does the bare minimum to not be a completely by the numbers harem show. 2) It has nothing to do with picking up girls in a dungeon, he tries to flirt with one girl but that only happens outside of the dungeon. And I liked this one.
Overlord was bad as the LN is a pretty slow burn and pretty dependent on knowing what ainz is thinking, plus where the anime ends is where shit starts getting great.
Would recommend the book way over the anime.
The only animes I enjoyed was Hellsing and Berserk
People take the "anime is 100% garbage" seriously?
I mean, I would join in on it because I thought it was just self-deprecating humor on the part of fans.
It's like 4chan, it's always a joke until someone takes it way too far.

Well I mean they aren't really made for you. Do you think a Japanese person could remember Western names like we can?
If you want a good modern anime check out Kiseiju / Parasyte, it's pretty good and worth a watch
just picked up re:zero after a year of not watching anime. its pretty good, dark as hell at times, though.
The first arc of SAO is decent enough, it has some pacing issues but it's entertaining, it's worth a try at least. The remaining arcs definitely have writing issues and typically aren't well received.
There is literally nothing good about SAO aside from the setting it does nothing with.

NSFW obviously.

Resident Evil: Zero?
Resident Evil: Zero?
no, just re:zero. NEET goes to fantasy land and can't stop fucking up
One Punch Man and Ace Attorney are the best recent anime for me.
And Dragon Ball Super too.
God I love One Punch Man. Literally a self aware DBZ.
There is literally nothing good about SAO aside from the setting it does nothing with.
Everyone has their opinion on SAO and it's definitely controversial to like it.
It was originally written by an amateur and this is apparent throughout it's multiple pacing issues, shallow characters and cheap conflict-resolving tactics. The best arc in terms of writing is by far the Mother's Rosario where the main character sidesteps and the author focus more on the side characters.
Still, despite the obvious writing failures, SAO has very good production values with amazing backgrounds and OST. It has good fighting sequences and I found it generally entertaining and easy to watch.

However, I feel that SAO is that summer action flick that somehow people like to over-analyze as if it was trying to be a master piece. I certainly didn't watch it expecting to be on the same level as NGE or similar.

Hardcore fans of anything are creepy and weird when you're not one of them, shocking news!
I can't tell if you're serious or not, but just like every medium anime has a wide spectrum of content, sure there's trash that panders to nerds, but it's not like that doesn't exist in other things. For every classic, must read novel, are there not hundreds, maybe thousands of trashy cheap fiction?
How is it any different then say, a woman obsessed with trashy romance novels? somebody who likes the transformers movies? Because people have arbitrarily decided that it's creepy for men to like drawings of cute girls designed to be appealing to look at? because you find it weird? Most people would find posting on an internet forum like this weird, because being weird is relative.

The only recent anime I've really followed was One Punch Man, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, and Mr. Osomatsu. I was going to start Mob Psycho 100 when there was more episodes on Crunchyroll, but then I forgot to keep track.
I tried Ace Attorney, but it feels like something that I had to be a fan of the games to really enjoy.
the Ace Attorney anime is pretty poorly made, if you're a fan of the games it actually gets worse.
if you love anime and video games, i recommend you play no mans sky because both belong in the trash
I'm reading this kind of shit comment like every second day on this forum. Anime and Manga are just another form of entertainment as games, movies and books. Why is it so hard to accept? Like another user here said, it comes to how you use it as a medium. If used correctly you can get amazing experiences like the Hayao Miyasaki movies.
And Dragon Ball Super too.
Nah sorry, but the the shit quality it has completely killed it off. Toei just doesn't give a fuck about putting efforts into the animation. You'd be better off watching something else.
I feel like the overall quality of anime has kind of gone down with the introduction of moe high school slice of life shows. Shows like that have become cash cows, with their recognizable style being injected into other shows instead of making something that stands out. Of course, there are exceptions like One Punch Man (something I really need to watch), but you'll be hard pressed to find something new that doesn't follow conventional shonen stereotypes.
I doubt we'll ever go back to the late 80s/90s golden age of anime.
Judging anime as a whole is dumb, you lump stuff like Spirited Away in with weird, obscure porn (since, by the being made in the same medium, hentai is anime)
It's like trying to say American TV sucks, because of some hand picked examples such as The Voice and The Big Bang Theory, while ignoring things like Breaking Bad, Its Always Sunny, Mythbusters. All five of those shows fit into different genres, judging them as a whole because of the medium would be drastically unfair.
Oh and watch Gundam, the original series, 0079, Z, ZZ, the OVAs, and Char's Counter Attack. Its p much Japan's answer to Star Wars in terms of scale and popularity, but much darker and with giant robots :v:
I'm not an anime fan at all (not the art style, more what's usually produced with it, fan service and attempts at humour ect) but Holy fuck how can you not include ghost in the shell, and Grave of the fireflys. those 2 films are incredibly 'western' with adult stories, fireflys (is a real story) actually had me crying at one point.

Might be a videogame and not an anime, but in Fate/Grand Order Tomas Edison is quite a sight to behold.

Yeah, that Thomas Edison.
The first arc also has abysmal writing issues, including repeatedly trying to tug our heart strings over the death of a character with 5 minutes of screen time and a resolution that is entirely pulled out of its fucking ass but everybody always seems to ignore that for some reason.
I once saw a screencap of a usenet messageboard from the 90s complaining about "kawaii" anime ruining everything. People have been crying about this since the early 80s, and it's pretty funny. artstyles change, popular show trends change (giant robots to monster collection to mysterious magical girl drags guy into fantasy battles etc) but one thing remains the same: Anime was better before X started being the trend.
the 90s have plenty of bad shows, the 80s too, and the 70s and so on.. but here's the thing, nobody remembers those shows, because they were bad. in 20 years will we remember Kiniro Mosaic or New Game? not likely, it's the same as always, the only difference now is 50 shows air a season and not 5.
mmo animes are bad
I will never understand the appeal to them. they all have the same concept of characters same op main character bullshit
"h-h--hi i'm a shy healer!!" every damn anime has this one character
