IGN Recommends 8 Anime To Watch If You Love Video Games
I'm reading this kind of shit comment like every second day on this forum. Anime and Manga are just another form of entertainment as games, movies and books. Why is it so hard to accept? Like another user here said, it comes to how you use it as a medium. If used correctly you can get amazing experiences like the Hayao Miyasaki movies.
Nah sorry, but the the shit quality it has completely killed it off. Toei just doesn't give a fuck about putting efforts into the animation. You'd be better off watching something else.
Yeah but like 70% of anime made is trash and Pervy even if there are good ones mixed in. You can't just pick one up and watch it.

The art form can be good but it usually isnt
In addition to what bunguer wrote:
If you don't mind tropes, then 'Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls In a Dungeon?' is pretty good too, because of some (rare) instances of really great fight choreography and hilarious voice actor performances.
'Konosuba - God's Blessing on This Wonderful World' is an outright amazing comedy. [sp]I can't wait for S2.[/sp]
It's not quite a game animé though, because there's one game-like abstraction and that's it. It mostly heavily borrows (wider game-)cultural references instead.
The part about the fanservice is true though, even if it's actually not obnoxious in this instance.

if you go to barns & noble right now and grab a random book you have like a 90% chance of picking up utterly trite garbage, how is this any different from books?

Alright fair point
Lost me at SAO, but by then the video was pretty much over. SAO is fine for about the first quarter of the first season, but that's it. Everything else I just didn't care for.
To give a rundown on some of my favorite recent to older shows. Not in order, just a general list of the ones I like and are recommended:
1. One Punch Man
2. Parasyte
3. Attack on Titan
4. TTGL
5. Kill la Kill
6. MSG: Iron-Blood Orphans
7. G Gundam
8. Any other Gundam series NOT SEED
mmo animes are bad
I will never understand the appeal to them. they all have the same concept of characters same op main character bullshit
"h-h--hi i'm a shy healer!!" every damn anime has this one character
Shut up Kono suba is anime of the year.
Any other Gundam series NOT SEED
Man...I suffered through SEED recently because I enjoy the pain I guess. I dunno. Slowly working my way through various Gundam shows on recommendation from a friend and just kinda wanted to get this fucker out of the way.
It had moments I guess? But really, there's no reason for it to exist. It's just a somewhat-similar MSG with prettier pretty-boys and more vacant expressions. The one major twist in it isn't really that interesting and comes in so late (in both fucking seasons) that it's utterly fucking meaningless to the show.
I can't say I would have used that time more efficiently, but I sorta want a refund.
However, I feel that SAO is that summer action flick that somehow people like to over-analyze as if it was trying to be a master piece. I certainly didn't watch it expecting to be on the same level as NGE or similar.
People hating SAO isn't a matter of over-analyzing it, it's a matter of its story (which, call me crazy, is kind of important) failing at a primary task; being coherent. 2 episodes of introduction and 10 episodes of dicking around in completely unrelated sidestories before a conclusion where quite literally nothing makes any sense.
I didn't watch it expecting to be some masterclass in storytelling either. I expected something entertaining. Instead I got a garbled mess of a story that just completely gave up on giving us a satisfying conclusion or even one that made sense. For all the basic bullshit it fucks up, it has no right to be as popular and hyped as it is.
anime isn't bad it's just that this is a shit list

also how the fuck has no one recommended samurai champloo?
all the people saying they like one punch man should watch mob psycho 100. it's an adaptation of the author's other manga and it has a lot of shared staff and animators working on it

Took a peek at that show at this year's Otakon. Will give that a shot after OPM.

The animation is great even though the character designs are intentionally kinda garbage. I'm not just saying that and trying to make up for deficiencies either, it's imitating the original author's trademark lack of skill. Just watch the opening to see what I mean.
Shut up Kono suba is anime of the year.
I agree, konotsuba is a great anime because the characters are just terrible at doing stuff, instead of most mmo animes like SAO, that have overpowered characters
Konosuba, Umaru-chan, Log Horizon and (from what I've heard) Re:Zero and Fate Stay Night are all worth a watch. The other 3 are low tier garbage.
Overlord is boring and nothing happens. It does jack shit with it's premise too.
Sword Art Online is a show people say 'got bad' as the series went on. They're wrong. SAO was garbage from the beginning and devolved the longer it went on.
Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon is bad on 2 counts. 1) It's very generic and it does the bare minimum to not be a completely by the numbers harem show. 2) It has nothing to do with picking up girls in a dungeon, he tries to flirt with one girl but that only happens outside of the dungeon. And I liked this one.
Who goes on the internet and tells lies that umaru-chan is good?

Not every single character is drawn 1:1 in One's style though it's just (masterfully) done for a few characters and for certain comedic moments.
In terms of anime Mob Psycho 100 is way, way up the list in all aspects.
If you want a series that is video gamey without being actually set in a video game or has actual stats and RPG mechanics, watch The Tower of Druaga, which is set as a sequel to an eighties arcade game. The whole thing feels like it should be a tie-in to a PSP JRPG.
If nothing else watch it for the first episode which is disconnected from the rest of the series and is an amazing RPG parody.

On a random list of anime that I think anybody could enjoy that aren't on the regular anime-starter-kit lists, I'm going to recommend The Tatami Galaxy, Ping Pong The Animation, Hyouge Mono, Seirei no Moribito, Mushishi, Kyousougiga, and Kaiji.
the title of this video is incredibly stupid. i'm also not giving ign the click.
If it can stick the landing, I think we're going to add 91 Days to the list of western-viewer-friendly anime, since it's a prohibition-era mafia story with little to nothing in the way of what people think of when they think anime cliches. It's one of those shows that you wouldn't have to change at all if you wanted to make a live-action version.
i only recently started watching anime, and by recently I mean two days ago when I started watching Overlord
it's ok i guess :ok:

Do yourself a favour and stop, Overlord is trash unless you like shallow power fantasies where everybody spends the entire show jerking off to how great and powerful the main character is, who is dumped into a setting carefully designed for him and his band of literal original-character-do-not-steals to be the strongest with no opposition because the world is designed so that the strength limit is way below their power level.
Jojo's bizarre adventure obviously because fuckin every fighting character ever is based on a jojo character
this reminds me, I like historical anime/animegame depictions of real people, ala dynasty warriors

fucking sold
Why do I know the name oda nobunaga? I feel like I've heard it before, in something western. This is driving me crazy now.
I feel like the overall quality of anime has kind of gone down with the introduction of moe high school slice of life shows. Shows like that have become cash cows, with their recognizable style being injected into other shows instead of making something that stands out. Of course, there are exceptions like One Punch Man (something I really need to watch), but you'll be hard pressed to find something new that doesn't follow conventional shonen stereotypes.
I doubt we'll ever go back to the late 80s/90s golden age of anime.
Fucking Jojo, man.

He's a famous figure who is important in the warring states/Sengoku era of Japan, which they seem to think is their most interesting era or something. You've probably heard his name somewhere at some point.
Best Nobunaga is Hyouge Mono's Pimp Daddy Nobunaga, who has embraced western fashion and represents flashiness and gaudiness in a show about aesthetics.

Yeah, instead I can watch one of the many animes each season with a weak, piss-ant, idiot MC who we have to watch power up 50 times.
Anime with an actually smart MC who isn't a pushover make for a nice change of pace.

I got it! In Payday 2 you steal the armor of Oda Nobunaga in a heist. That's how I know it!

Because a huge mary sue who never even does anything smart is so much better.
Overlord would have been fine if it had just stuck to a story about a slick bone daddy trying to act cool for his minions
Instead he spent the entire show pretending to be extremely boring and doing nothing

Oh wow......ok.....
I'll settle with I'm easily amused.

You have to understand that the anime is someones interpretation of the light novel and not the manga like many other animes. Unlike shows like One Piece which attempt to animate the manga 1:1. So a lot of the little things in scenes never occurred in the actual story, where as a lot of important things that happen in the light novel never occurred in the anime.
As much as I really love the SAO light novels, the anime was done poorly. They tried to fan service and rush all the story into too small of a series to sell it. Just like the new Ghostbusters, SAO animation turned into a mediocre money grab. Which is a shame because they put a lot of money into it.
