Everyone, including gamers, should watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes once. Code Geass is just a kiddy version of it.

I thought it was kind of overrated. Then again Code Geass is somewhat overrated too.
Eh the book is better.
Is this in reference to S;G? Because yeah the visual novel is leagues better.

Pretty sure Code Geass is a show for toothpick enthusiasts.

What the hell is a toothpick enthusiast.
Sorry but Death Note shits the bed halfway through.
What's with all the putting down and nitpicking in these last pages?
Death Note is one of the most popular anime of the past decade, it reaches an wide audience and it has an incredibly high rating, from users and critics alike. Check it yourself on anidb and MAL.
Nothing is perfect, it's still a great anime.

When there's a discussion of a piece of media, no matter how good it is, the flaws will be exposed very fast. That's just how it happens everywhere. It can be misleading and make the subject seem bad, so pointing it out is a good idea.
What the hell is a toothpick enthusiast.
They're making fun of the show's artstyle, as all the characters are really slender.
Berserk I hear is really good. I'm talking about the 90's adaptation, not the CGI show or the CGI movies. Kill la Kill is insanely fun, in my top ten imo, but you really shouldn't start off with that. It's like drinking Crystal Head vodka for the first time after just turning 21; It's gonna get dizzy real fast from the beginning and you'll have no idea what's going on. Like Berserk, I hear that the Fate series is good, but you should start with Fate/zero first.
Incorrect, but I'm not going to convince a non weeb to go the hard route of playing the original visual novel style game (basically an adventure game but with even less gameplay, make choices every once and a while to influence the story direction), the fate/stay night tv anime is pretty bad and not recommended, Unlimited Blade Works is a great anime but it's not really recommended to go into that first, as it's adapting the second story arc of the game so it assumes you've seen the first.
But please, don't say watching Zero first is correct, it's wrong. Zero is a prequel, meaning it assumes you've seen the original already. If you watch zero first it will spoil EVERY SINGLE TWIST in fate/stay night, and I am not exaggerating when I say EVERY. Zero is great and can be watched standalone and make sense, but it will cause a serious case of "why is the other series making such a big deal out of this character reveal?" when you already know who it is, and knowing things you're not supposed to.
I would say to play the game first, but I don't think that's for casual fans. You can watch zero first, but I'll be really disappointed, do you want to make Hobbes disappointed?

It's a fucking miracle there are displays on the market with a high enough pixel density to render characters that thin.
Holy shit that's some interesting proportions. Even by anime standards.

The people who rate stuff on MAL make me weep for humanity if their choices are anything to go by.
Also, popularity is not always an indicator of quality.
The first half of the show is great but once a major turn of events happens about halfway through it just becomes lame. If you enjoy it and think it is worth a recommendation then knock yourself out but people are allowed to point out it's failings.

Being popular doesn't mean it's good, nor are ratings from MAL or anidb
Being popular doesn't mean it's good, nor are ratings from MAL or anidb
So if being very popular and having very positive reviews on two quite different websites, from users and critics (and critics on AniDB are way harsher than in MAL), is not good enough to indicate that it's considered "good" then where do you draw the line?
I mean, feel free to personally dislike it if you want but it doesn't mean it's not good, unless you feel your opinion is more valid than the thousands of users and critics.
We are not even arguing if Death Note is 10/10 - what even is?.
right so one of my steam friends (who is a massive weeb and has quite possibly watched every anime known to man let me just say right off the bat) heard from one of my other friends that i started watching anime and gave me a few suggestions, what're your guys opinions on these?
Fate/zero and Fate/stay night (I had already seen some clips from both of these and thought it looked neato)
Black Bullet
Death Note
Kill la Kill
and Berserk
which are good and which are bad?
Fate/Zero - I would recommend to either watch or play Fate/Stay Night first(either both 1st and 2nd arc or just the 1st). If you decide to play the first arc of Fate/Stay it will take a couple of hours iirc(it really depends how much free time you have). Fate/Zero as stated in a few posts above mine is a prequel and should definitely be watched after Fate/Stay Night(1st arc) because it will spoil everything. Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works is the second arc, and has stunningly beautiful animation, and definitely worth watching.
Black Bullet - if you like little anime girls and watching them trying to score with grown men, and fight giant bugs, this is the anime for you! (I wish I was joking, but this is pretty much the entire summary of BB. Except it's only two little girls trying to score with the same guy iirc)
Death Note - First half is good, but second half goes downhill.
Kill la Kill - underwear shenanigans, and epic fights(as well as epic music to go with them). Definitely worth a watch... maybe by yourself because of the underwear theme.
Berserk - The original anime hasn't aged well, but I see it recommended all the time. The CGI movies cover most of what the anime showed. While not the most appealing eye candy, they should do just fine. The 2016 series continues where the anime/movies ended. It uses very little anime, and uses CGI mostly. I still enjoy it.

I'm sorry but the users on MAL and anidb are notorious for rating absolute shit highly.
The Micheal Bay Transformers movies are popular and they're all fucking terrible.

As much as I liked Fate/Zero (I watched it first), I personally think it's preferable to play the VN before Fate/Zero or at the very least watch Unlimited Blade Works' adaptation if you don't have time.

Sword Art Online is the second most popular anime on MAL. I think it's pretty safe to say that their opinions belong in the trash, right alongside their second favourite anime.
why hasnt anyone recommended cromartie high school, literally the best anime of all time

Both of those posts are a strawman. I clearly said more than just popularity, I'm talking about popularity and rating, which Death Note has.
Sword Art Online barely reaches 5 on AniDB, that isn't an high score.
Transformers doesn't reach a 25% on Rotten, that also isn't an high score.
I do think popularity doesn't mean quality but when you have both popularity and ratings, especially by reviewers, it typically tends to mean that an anime is good in my experience.
Is this in reference to S;G? Because yeah the visual novel is leagues better.
I mean, just because the VN is better doesn't mean the show isn't also amazing. It's one of the only shows I own the Blu-Ray of. That said, if you enjoy the show, also check out the VN because it has more depth to it.

Cromartie is a little out there and isn't necessarily the most coherent thing. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but it's not in the same kind of genre as the rest of the shows being discussed which are more story driven.

Help I can't see anything but backgrounds. Stop taking advantage of those of us without retina displays, I'm assuming there's characters in there somewhere.
Despite the dumb signature CLAMP character art of XXXholic, I enjoyed the show overall.
A friend of mine recommended Gunsmith Cats as a manga to read, but there are no complete scans anywhere online.
please watch Space Dandy for comfy space adventures
mmo animes are bad
I will never understand the appeal to them. they all have the same concept of characters same op main character bullshit
"h-h--hi i'm a shy healer!!" every damn anime has this one character
:v grimgar doesnt
I highly recommend Armor Hunter Mellowlink.
Do you like mecha?
Do you like political intrigue?
Do you like killing baddies with a rocket propelled spike fired from a sniper rifle designed to hunt said mecha?
Even if you don't, I still say to give it a try.

Pretty sure you mean the official gag dub of Ghost Stories.

Oh that's where that pencil scene comes from!
