Windows 8 is the best operating system Microsoft has put out since XP in my opinion. The jump is so large and the performance is so good that I can say that in complete confidence. For everyone that doesn't like the whole MetroUI thing, download Start8 which essentially turns your Windows 8 into Windows 7.5
Ever since I downloaded Start8, I haven't used Metro ONCE and not because I don't like it.
Metro isn't bad
The lack of integration of Metro with the classic desktop is what makes it a terrible experience for use in desktop PCs.
There is no need for two completely seperate desktop environments to run within one OS like this. Metro is fine for touchscreen PCs and tablets, and the classic desktop is fine for laptops and typical desktop PCs.
Why should we be forced to use both environments?
YES THIS SO MUCH! A lot of programs need the classic environment. Even MS's Visual Studio doesn't run in Metro-mode. That's why they should merge the two of them into one environment that has the advantages of both. Android did that really well with ICS. It merged the tablet and the smartphone version. I want the new modern APIs and design while still having windows and smaller, more usable GUIs in programs like Visual Studio and Photoshop.

This whole problem could be solved by allowing the Metro applications to run in ratio-locked windows while in desktop mode. The application would run perfectly fine and wouldn't be able to tell the difference as long as Windows tells it that the current screen resolution is the size of the window.
Gonna treat this video with a lot of scepticism, since you don't even once see the kid's hand.
On the mouse, that is.

You aren't forced to use both environments.
If you want the old start menu, get Start8. If you just want to use metro, then just go ahead and do that :)

What, you think the kid can actually talk to his father about how to do things and not actually be able to do those actions on the computer?
I use to always tell my grandma how to get onto websites by adding .com.au when I was three
oh boy
Every OS and GUI ought to be designed by Fisher-Price, 'cos that'd be so user friendly and so much better. No sharp edges, please!
When I was three I thought launching the AOL browser from the desktop icon gave you viruses :v:
That is the start of a Win8 commercial.
"So easy a 3 year old can do it."
Reminds me of when I was young playing on Win98 and enjoying Doom 1 and 2 and Wolfenstein.
I feel like im giving up control in windows 8, so i stick with 7. Anyway, that kid is adorable!
Windows 8 is bullcrap for the PC user. The only thing they had to do is provide two different settings for each type of users and not this cheap hybrid shit. Why do we have to download some hack from a 3rd party to get the start menu back even when many people still wanted it?

People only want the old start menu as defaults because they're used to it.
Like it or not, we're heading towards more touch-centric computing devices, and WIn8 achieves it very well while allowing regular KB/M users to still have full control.
Don't ever self declare yourself as a power user. Because if you actually do chances are you're the very opposite.

How are you giving up any control by upgrading to windows 8?
If you consider better administration tools, a handy power menu (right clock bottom left), faster startup, less RAM usage less control then I really don't know what to tell you.
I wanna get win8, only thing I'd like to have is the proper start menu...
Would I lose any of my programmes, settings, drivers etc. if I upgrade to win8?

I said PC user not power user. And I said PC user because it seems that all their efforts have gone to please the tablet users, which is interesting, considering they have never released a tablet and there's no real user base yet. What I'm really blaming ms for is that they don't seem to listen to their actual user base and base their designs on predictions and limited feedback which they probably obtain from internal testers and not from long term users.

Yep, same thing happens with every upgrade
Honestly, you're better of this way if you are upgrading to a new operating system, a fresh start is always good.

Microsoft are releasing the Surface same day as Windows8, so when it releases they technically will have one.
Lenovo are also making two or more tablets, Sony are making a 20" one and probably more.
if it gets 'freezy', you either have an old pc or it's filled with shit.
i've been running windows 8 for months now, and it's all fine.
if you have an old pc, that gets 'freezy' even on 7, don't bother with 8.
if you fill your pc with shit, stop doing that - don't go around installing everything you see.
You sort of misunderstood what I said. My current computer hasn't really had any freezing problems, but I know that a lot of people do because they like to fill their computers with shit. A lot of users will get Windows 8 computers and start filling them with shit, and then bitch about how terrible the OS is because it freezes for them.
Also, the 3 year old will have an easier time with this because it is a generally simple UI, and he's probably not really used any other OS's yet in his lifetime. If he has, it was when he was two years old and I doubt he'd remember that very well.
Da wedda pwogwam?!
Start8 will cost money later on unfortunately.
You can buy it now and it only costs $5. I'm sure there will be a free alternative, but it probably won't be as customizable as Start8.
well at least we know M8 has reached its target audience
Facepunch in a nutshell.
Disregard cute baby, talk about software.

Considering the software is the point of the video, yeah.
