How stabbing women in Call of Duty: Ghosts makes you feel

it's pretty simple really
the bigger a group is, any group, the more idiots are in it.
call of duty is basically the most played game ever
therefore there are a lot more idiots playing it than most other games.
Oh, holy shit. The woman in the video points out within two minutes that this shit doesn't need to be pointed out, that it doesn't need to be an issue.
Men have been getting stabbed in the ass for years, women getting stabbed in the ass is new, but it doesn't need to be made an issue of. I mean, lets not forget that women have been getting stabbed in the ass in other games for years, too.
To be fair it's less of a "holy shit this is wrong omg" and more of a "wow haha ive been stabbing guys for so long i forgot that stabbing females could even happen, weird"

Which, again, is weird. Women have been getting killed in games for ages, and that includes recent ones like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Gears of War, Halo, Unreal Tournament, Elder Scrolls, Bioshock, The Walking Dead, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed, the upcoming Battlefield 4...the list just goes on and on.
I get that it's new for Call of Duty, but it's not even remotely new for videogames.
I don't think it's weird at all. Imagine you're walking down a hallway with blue lights for 20 years, then suddenly the hall has green lights at random intervals. Sure you know green lights exist out there, but you aren't used to it at all in your setting. You think "huh wow this is different oh well" and that's really about it.

Also this. If you watch the video nobody is saying it's wrong or should be banned but more that it's jarring. In fact only two of them say that; the other two aren't surprised at all.
Part of it as I noted above is the more realistic depiction of it in a first person game. When you hit your melee button in a CoD title all you see on the other end is some gruff military person. Hell, you probably don't even identify them as a person at this point because you have knifed so many of them. All the sudden the new Ghosts trailer comes out and for a brief flash of video you see someone get stabbed in the chest and you notice a clear female portrayal. No bald/shaven head, no helmet, no tacky skull balaclava but a slender face and longish blond hair. It's unusual.
Personally I don't give a shit; it's a game about two teams of make believe soldiers shooting each other in the face to unlock their own personal helicopter gunships and ranking up enough to put tacky red tiger stripes on their guns. But the video itself is decent and I think people in this thread are either misinterpreting the video or just outright didn't watch it.

I don't understand your point at all. Are you criticizing them (this specific podcast) for not talking up when those games came out individually or do you think it's not something that should be discussed at all or what?
Like yeah, okay, we get it. You are on a forum full of video gamers, I've murdered a lot of female characters in video games before. Whats wrong about talking about it when it's a CoD game doing it? What's "weird"?
You could be female in Halo and no one cared when you smacked them

I'm honestly just confused that it's being brought up at all beyond "Oh hey, now there are female avatars in Call of Duty. Neato." There's nothing wrong with talking about it, but given how long this has been part of the industry I'm surprised that NOW it's being brought up.
You could be female in Halo and no one cared when you smacked them
To be fair, male or female you still wore big honking super soldier armor that made you blend in as "super soldier X"
I find it more interesting that Call of Duty gets recognized for all these "game-changing additions" that other series have been doing for years.
Female MP characters? Been done since the 90s
Destructible environments? See Battlefield: Bad Company
Leaning, Sliding, and Mantling: See Call of Duty 1, Crysis, Battlefield 3 (probably older examples as well)
Not a single one of those is innovative, yet they're being heralded. Baffles me.
You forgot the innovative fish ai.
so
wait
no women in games = bad
women in games being equal to males in games = bad
???
how did shooting children in fallout 1 make you feel?
It felt really, really good filling Myron's eye with lead in two. He was just such a fucking twerp.

If it makes you feel any better, [sp]He's officially dead in the canon. A jet addict murders him for drug money.[/sp]
There were women in CoD 2, no one complained then.
There were women in CoD 2, no one complained then.
There was one in CoD4, [sp]but she was in one mission before getting cooked in nuclear fire.[/sp]
You've got to be kidding me, this video is stupid at hell.
Why are they making such a big deal out of this? Is it really that big of a deal to have female characters in a multiplayer shooter?
to be fair, IW decided to make a big deal out of it
doesn't make this video any less dumb, just saying though
There was one in CoD4, [sp]but she was in one mission before getting cooked in nuclear fire.[/sp]
There was one in CoD3 too. She was part of the French resistance.
[sp]She gets blown up by an explosive that she herself placed, early detonation or something[/sp]
There was one in CoD3 too. She was part of the French resistance.
there's also a female jet pilot Black Ops II but i can't remember if she survives or not
I stab, burn, fire arrows at women and children in Skyrim, the hell if the difference if its Call of Duty, you already kill children as soon as you get into a MP game, so why not women? Its pixels and polys for god sakes
Lets go back to the good ole days when you could mow down the women in no russian.
I like how the woman shoots it down, then one of the guys is like "Hold on a sec, those games, Halo, UT, Gears of War are more cartoony, and they wear cartoony outfits"
So I guess he'd feel weird about stabbing a normally dressed woman but not a FF cosplayer, since they would be wearing cartoony clothes?
It's funny because in The Last Of Us multiplier you can play a female character and no one has a problem in that game. Plus The Last Of Us is more of a serious game than any COD I have ever played.
I'm an equal opportunity sociopath.
Nobody moaned about being able to chainsaw women in half in Gears of War 3, so why would this even remotely be an issue?
guys I killed a nude alyx with a pistol am I a bad person
Nobody moaned about being able to chainsaw women in half in Gears of War 3, so why would this even remotely be an issue?
Probably because everyone knows Call of Duty. The series has become so legendary in terms of both players overall and sales numbers that a lot of media and non-gamers tend to immediately think of this strange 'Call of Duty' game that the children and younger folks talk about a lot.
The Last of Us had controversy due to Ellen Page and its top scores all around. Gears of War had its brief day in the limelight with its 'next-gen' gore back in the day. Beyond that, any non-gamer doesn't really see either of those. But when Call of Duty, the unfortunate current face of gaming as a whole, introduces female playable characters, of course those with agendas or just poorly thought-out opinions are gonna jump on the bandwagon about how 'improper' and 'indecent' it is.
Just like how some blurred, low-resolution texture with illegible text on it was part of a picture frame over a toilet in MW2, and a single asshole spurred a lot of muslim gamers to angrily protest that it somehow insulted Muhammad, causing Infinity Ward to actually take the map down and remove said picture frame from the map before putting it back up. If you're going to make a statement, stupid as fuck or not, your best chance of getting attention is going for the big thing that everyone knows.
it's only an issue if you make it an issue and hell, we've all shot and stabbed Thousands of women in games before Fallout 1 fallout 2 fallout 3 fallout nv The Elder scrolls morrowind TES oblivion TES SKYRIM dues ex World of warcraft GTA vice city GTA SAN AN GTA 4 GTA V gee what else is there..
don't forget Mass Effect you can like throw them around and stuff with that Bi0 Sic - Fi stuff
As a self-described Social Justice Warrior I can proudly say this was an atrocious video. I can't even use the phrase "making mountains out of molehills" because there are no molehills to begin with.
Wow the singular woman basically finished the whole "discussion" literally a minute into it and they just shoot it down and go "BUT HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEL, DOES IT NOT RUSTLE YOUR OVARIES"
IGN stop trying to sensationalize everything, you're making yourself look dumber than usual here
oh christ I thought you were condensing what he said or were exaggerating but then he literally went "BUT HOW DOES IT MAKE YOU FEEEEEL"
I- no, I can't
I can't watch this shit turn it off I can't take it anymore

This is part of the issue with sexism
is when they make too much of a damn deal of what is basically [sp]hint hint bullshit[/sp]
