If I could describe this in one word, I'd have to use three. Bad, very bad.
garry's mod and SFM killed machinima imo before you had masterpieces like this then gmod and sfm turned machinima into a "lel ragdoll voice clip from tf2 weird face heavy likes sandvich so funny internet humor" shitfest i cant remember the last time i saw a machinima that was worth watching
To be fair one of the best and most recognized of machinimas was made in gmod Also, what the shit, why is the OP a guest?
So i started fooling around with SFM recently and i finally finished my first video. It's Dota 2 video about sniper hunting enchantress(bambi). I mean, it's not awful for a first time using the SFM, but there's a thread for stuff like this in the SFM subforum. And as for the SFM ruining machinima, I'd have to disagree. The problem is there's no good content being made right now, unless you count Shrek x Elizabeth porno as good content. The people making good content are mostly doing test videos of newly discovered features. I, for one, think it's pretty cool that Valve has basically released an entire animation, modeling, and mapping suite in one package, absolutely free of charge. There's just not enough people with the knowledge to use it to its fullest extent. Hopefully that will change, because while I do find a vast majority of these 12-20 second shorts and tests entertaining, there needs to be real, fully fleshed out, good, entertaining content.

It is like, once you are taking it that seriously, why use an inferior tool? Of course their are exceptions.

War of the servers? Clear skies? Leet World? Counter Strike for kids? Are you trolling or have you just been living under a rock? The fact of the matter is that more user-friendly tools are going to allow a lot of people to make terrible crap but it also allows the few talented to make more amazing thing than before.

Ian has mentioned this hundreds of times. He had never even heard of Garry's Mod until hundreds of people asked him if he used it. All Clear Skies used was the Source SDK, that's it. Oh yeah, and EVE Online, of course. It would actually be leaps and bounds easier to create a Clear Skies-type machinima solely within the SFM since you could just rip models from the game (quite easily, might I add), and port them over to Source (also quite easily). Theoretically speaking, it would be potentially possible to create fleet battles with thousands of ships, just like in EVE, at a fraction of the cost in terms of CPU/GPU performance requirements to render out the full scene, largely due to the fact that you can basically scale each ship model down to roughly the size of the pistol in Half-Life 2, with absolutely no loss in detail. More importantly, you wouldn't have to poorly key out windowed regions of the interiors of ships you design in Hammer so you can drop in footage of space. The only hard part would be making all the particle effects look just like those found in EVE.

It was a response to his "I can't find a machinima worth watching" because I apparantly all good machinimas have to be made in goldsource.
it means they like dota 2 which is a good reason to avoid them
Man fuck absolutely everything about that whole situation, now I can't say I like dota 2 without someone assuming I'm some weird entitled cry baby who treats the entire internet like it's one giant shitty twitch chat room.

It's made the potential to make even better ones. Not really machinima per se, but proof that it's within the realm of possibility. SFM and Gmod just made making machinima easier and more accessible, not necessarily "killing" it
Man I remember things like Leet World (posted on garrysmod.org when it was still a blog or whatever I think) and War of the Servers. And the first few seasons of RvB too. Those were the days, I tell you hwat (and now the leet world theme is playing in a sad parade of nostalgia) [editline]6th November 2013[/editline] leet world leeetttt wooooorrllllhhhdddd YEAH
it means they like dota 2 which is a good reason to avoid them
it's more something to do with the twitch streams which is an even bigger reason to avoid them
Still confused by the guest
I'm a quest because i changed the name of my youtube channel and then made a new account here to correspond with that name and asked mods to delete that first account  Yea i now see myself how that video sucks balls coz i've been learning so much more now making my second project, which will be much better. I even didn't know how to add particles when i made that first video  That's why i made that sniper "bullet" by using soldier in game mode to shoot over the shoulder of the bambi with bazooka! hahah :v: next video will be wayyy better i'm even making custom automated lipsyncs for the models, will be uploading it later today or tomorrow so u can see the progress. ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Diretide (User was banned for this post ("Meme reply" - MaxOfS2D))
Why would the mods delete your account?
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ Give Diretide
Please stop adding that to your posts.
Why would the mods delete your account?
Because i asked them to? Account that nobody uses is just a waste of space.
They never delete accounts, only permaban.
Ick
They never delete accounts, only permaban.
There's a first time for everything then i quess.
video has moved:
Mechanically, it's a decent first attempt, all things considered. However, there isn't really anything going on to warrant the watch. There's no real dynamic shots or editing, and more importantly, there's no story or zinger to make this something of real interest. A horse woman is enjoying the scenery, a sniper takes a shot for one reason or another, misses, and she prances on. As a test animation or something you mess around with, that's fine, but to share with a public audience, a short of any kind needs to have some kind of actual conflict and resolution. I would work on writing something cohesive up before investing the time to animate it. That way, the effort can have at least a somewhat better pay-off for your audience, because whenever you make your work public, you need to have your audiences' interest in mind, to ensure that it's something both they and yourself will enjoy. Keep at it, and I'm sure you'll find a medium you're comfortable with.
