actually it kind of looks weird and superimposed, I think the way the camera moves makes the explosion look like it's moving in some weird way.
Idk, I can't describe it but it doesn't look bad, it does look kind of out of place though.
it's copypasted on top of everything in the scene, no depth whatsoever - almost like the original trilogy space battle explosion effects.

Actually I am pretty sure that's an explosion from the OT, at least the special edition ones :v:

This trailer was not cut the day it aired - most likely around a month ago, if not more. So if they have tweaked it, there's been plenty of time.

This is proper canon. Disney threw all of the EU shit away leaving only The Clone Wars and movies canon. Anything released after Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir (that isn't Lego Star Wars) is official canon now.
Kyle Katarn doesn't exist.

We've had no reason to see it in the other movies.
There was no need for a troop transport during the Battle of Yavin, or Hoth or Endor.

That galaxy is a big place, there's no reason to assume we've seen every ship that ever existed in the OT.

Actually it was several different people in the old canon, [url=http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Operation_Skyhook]Operation Skyhook[/url] was the name of the whole thing.
The writers for this movie seem to have been inspired by Dark Forces at least a little bit which is pretty neat. It would be cool if they had Katarn himself, but hey we still have the badass games.
I wish they used Z-95 Headhunters instead of X-Wings though, I think it would have gave more of a "before ANH" feeling.
