I can understand not liking drone and other minimalistic rock genres, but saying that there isn't anything going on is downright insulting.
Swans songs are about atmosphere and they build it fantastically.
Whenever I hear Mother of the World I just completely drown in that song.
I don't want to listen to stuff that is just purely atmospheric. There are bands like Godspeed You Black Emperor that give off amazing atmosphere but they still get notes off and the song varies. Maybe it was just the Swans song I listened to though, it was just droning noise for a long time.

If you don't want to listen to that, then okay, but seriously, dont start calling it "droning noise".
And you wanted new and different rock and that's what I linked to you. If you dont like it, that's too bad, but I seriously feel sorry for you if all you enjoy is old prog rock.

yo the heavy breathing in that song fucks with my own breathing lol
that's what makes it great.
I don't like the style of new music these days. My taste is more on hard rock and prog rock and shit. There's not a lot of good hard rock bands these days, people are just tossing out the blues and not a lot of thought or emotion is put into most bands I find. There are a few good bands I find here and there that are recent, but I mostly stick to stuff I am familiar with which is 70's stuff.
I wish hard rock would get some sort of rebirth in creativity like rap music is doing these days.
I hate how my taste in music just gets tossed into a bunch of 14 year old hipsters who say new music is shit by most people, just because I am pretty exclusive on 70's bands.
Okay, if you don't like new music it's not because new music sucks but because you haven't found something that you like yet, really - it's not that you dislike new music because by saying that you're making an enormous generalization you can't back up.
You like rock and blues, 1970 style? Here are some modern bands/artists you may like:

Listen to those and tell me you don't like new music.
Dude, those are awesome, gotta find more of them.
The only modern bands that really use mellotrons anymore ARE throwback bands.
And I don't understand how listening to a lot of prog makes you not notice when a modern band is trying to sound like old prog.
I can't think of an older band that matches the same kind of slow, varied, and classical song structure as them. The way the songs weave in and out through several themes and melodies like an orchestra almost, but with a rock sound behind them, it's done very gracefully and it's beautiful. New Trolls incorporated orchestra and rock back then, but it wasn't as fluid as this IMO. So yeah, pretty much out of the countless hours I have spent listening to the genre, I can't find anything that matches the same mood and stylization.

Okay. It just sounds like a combination of Jethro Tull and King Crimson to me.
You're never going to find the mood and styles of bands that have stood the test of time.
You need to step down just remember that these bands you're listening to are the top of the cream. They beat out all of the shit and imitations that happened.

Go out and look then, never stop searching, you'll always find more music you'll like.

Oh I know, I haven't stopped searching.

I have a knack for looking for older music anytime I do any music searching, and it makes me feel like a huge nostalgia freak.
I've found a decent amount of new music too, but I definitely know more old tunes that I like than new ones.

Dude, old music is the shit. I started looking for a bunch of it after I heard the music from Fallout 3.

I'm the same way but that's just cause it's easier to find old music in general than finding new music :v:
