IMO it's about some of the FP threads and sections being a "feed" to users (lmao pics is a prime example), and because it takes absolutely no effort to browse it, and no effort to complain, users are usually mad if something is "late" aka posted more than 1 time. People never say "lol it's that X thing it's so old and late kill yourself" to their rl friends or random people on streets, because it takes some effort.

This fad exhausted itself incredibly quickly. It just isn't resourceful.
Popularity is a funny thing, on facepunch.
