One of the best parts about GTA IV was smashing your car up in impressive realistic ways

That doesn't happen. Hitting a cop car will give you 1 star and the cops will NEVER try to kill you at 1 star.

I don't think that's how it was, I think it was just that if you fired your gun, it would immediately go to 2 stars and then the cops would try to kill you.

Maybe it wasn't that way in GTA IV but in the older games if you had a weapon equipped at 1 star they started shooting.

Neh, fairly sure if you aim at them with a gun, that's when it goes to 2 stars
But you're right, Cops won't kill you with 1 star, they'll just arrest you
