aH i remember this. I kept voting for Undertale because of the salt generated.
I guess this is why when 'Best Of Whatever' lists are compiled, people go to critics and historians and people who know their shit.
I'm not dissing on Undertale, I'm dissing on the concept of the poll altogether. If you wanna decide the 'best game ever' (also a stupid idea) don't just throw it to the internet. Put some actual effort in it.
Undertale deserved it, I whether see a game made by an indie developer get more praise modernly than an old recognizable game made by a large company.
These contests are pointless anyways, they serve only for advertisement.

While it is a game i liked for many reasons, it is not worthy of the "best game of all time" title :v:
While it is a game i liked for many reasons, it is not worthy of the "best game of all time" title :v:
I don't think there exists a game that is actually worth of such title
[sp]Except for Heroes of Might & Magic 3. A turn based strategy game so good that even complete casuals loved it.[/sp]
While it is a game i liked for many reasons, it is not worthy of the "best game of all time" title :v:
Yeah I completely agree, but can you really give that title to any game anyways?
Like I said, these contests are always pointless and serve just to advertise, and imo it's worth advertising a new game more than an old well known one.
Is it being called an 'SJW game' (man typing those words feels so weird) literally just because it has a lesbian couple in it? Or because the comedy is now popular on tumblr and has inspired many memes. I don't understand these people.
Also: yeah I think it's a contender for best game of all time, not sure why release date matters, it sure is in my top 10 games of all time at least.
Yeah I completely agree, but can you really give that title to any game anyways?
I can't think of a candidate for that.
Games are so different from each other.

As far as I'm aware, yes. The whole 'Lesbian Couple' thing was brought up a LOT when they slandered Undertale
As far as I'm aware, yes. The whole 'Lesbian Couple' thing was brought up a LOT when they slandered Undertale
Technically, one of them is bisexual, probably both.
But yeah, somehow it's problematic for some of them that there is a not heterosexual couple in a video game.
Bigots.
i think i just consumed 10 years worth of tumblr humor
What is that even supposed to mean
As far as I'm aware, yes. The whole 'Lesbian Couple' thing was brought up a LOT when they slandered Undertale
Most of the people I saw call it an "SJW" game didn't even know it had a lesbian couple in it because they haven't played it. Other games called "SJW" games by these people include Braid, The Witness, and Life is Strange. They can call it that for a variety of reasons, from the game's fanbase, to one of the game's character's having dyed hair, to the game being "pretentious".
Honestly it probably has nothing to do with a gay/lesbian couples (because that would require these people to know a substantial amount about the game) and just that these people are lobbing "SJW" at anything they don't like the same way some idiots lob "meme game" or "autistic" at anything they don't like.
Man, watching this whole thing unravel was so great. SSBM is much closer to my heart than Undertale is and I do think it's the better game, but helping Undertale win and seeing people get genuinely angry and resort to actual cheating for a meaningless online poll (in vain, to top it off) was so worth it.

So they literally just hate it because people they don't like like it? I don't know if that's worse than homophobia but it's still dumb as fuck.

I mean, there are plenty of people on Facepunch that hate it for the same reason.
Don't think I'm defending GameFAQs because believe me, it is full of idiots, to a much greater extent than Facepunch.

The only thing i hate is the same thing i hate when any group talks about something as if it's the second coming of Jesus.
The game itself is fine.

To be fair, a lot of people who use terms like SJW and view them as a threat are cultural conservatives who view the inclusion of homosexuality and other social components in their games as an all-out assault on culture. In their minds, the inclusion of those characters is not an attempt to reflect the diversity of 21st century society or to appeal to a broader audience that has historically been shut out of video gaming and have had their existence denied for decades, but rather a global conspiracy to sculpt the definition of culture in a way that defines these people as normal... which is for some reason bad because reasons. There is a view that using video games to promote diversity is somehow wrong, and that somehow merely including gay characters is a conspiracy to use video games to promote diversity.
The "war" against SJWs is very much a culture war, very similar to what groups like One Million Moms and other right-wing Christian organizations are fighting.

Nope, still can't rationalize being against having gay characters in a game. I get what an 'SJW' is, and I'm totally against people like Anita Sarkeesian and Josh Macintosh but nope, nope, nope, if somebody has a problem with [sp]Undyne and Alphys[/sp] that has anything to do with their sexuality they can fuck right off. Bigots.

Peolpe are upset about this?
I love these video game polls and the various internet communities going nuts over them. There was one where it's about the 'best video game villain of all time' hosted by Gamespot, which also had a big commotion here in Facepunch when it was posted. Gordon Freeman won the first poll on being the 'best video game hero of all time', and the 2nd poll had Dr. Breen for the villain poll. Breen lost about midway through against Gears of War's General Raam and people went nuts, and everyone else sorta went nuts when Darth Vader won the final poll lol
I remember that! I even made a picture to celebrate at the time.

You watch the video? 1:47, dude saying we shouldn't have homosexuality in games. Probably more examples but I'm not watching the whole video again or going to the GameFAQs thread that started all this.

This is a rant that got away from me in length a bit, but whatever, I've had to put up with this same annoying shit for like two years now. It is a very very annoying 'war', too. I wish I could go back in time and stop the gamergate fiasco from happening because as thoroughly shitty as some of the stuff that got revealed was, it didn't really seem to accomplish anything except create a big shitstorm that made gamers look sexist, elevated the position of shitheads like Anita Sarkeesian, made everything worse for everyone because now everyone's so fucking hostile, and helped form this "anti-SJW" culture that is so thoroughly annoying.
I really am tired of everything slightly outside the norm being for SJWs and SJWs only now. Like so many of these kinds of things, SJW used to mean something, it used to mean someone who was overzealous in pursuit of social justice, the kind of person who got offended over everything and so on. Now it's just...anyone in support of LGBT rights or has in any way ever advocated for the rights of minorities. Not even that. Anyone who's dyed their hair, might wear glasses, have short hair as a woman, be fat, have piercings, be trans, all of them are SJWs now even though none of that actually reflects on political opinions.
And all a game or a cartoon needs to be to be an 'SJW game' or 'SJW cartoon' is for people with Tumblr accounts to like it and maybe have a gay couple or one black character but anything like that is really really optional, then you'll never hear the end of it. I can't even dye my hair a different color because I like a different color than brown because people will assume I'm just some SJW tumblrina. I mean shit, I'm already cutting it close by being trans and wearing glasses. Clearly all my opinions and beliefs are on display now.
I'm more passionate about it than maybe I should be but I am just so fucking sick of listening to white guys bitching, and bitching, and bitching, and bitching, and bitching, and bitching, and bitching, and bitching, and bitching about how Tumblr likes something, or because Star Wars had a female protagonist that's as competent as Luke was and therefore is a COMPLETE mary sue. I don't fucking care what Tumblr likes because Tumblr likes everything. Tumblr doesn't just like Undertale, they like Silent Hill, and Morrowind, and KotOR, and Metal Gear Solid, and fucking Blinx the Time Cat because it has millions of users who are all different people with different interests talking about the things they like or dislike. Tumblr also hates porn, except wait, Tumblr is also like the greatest porn site ever made. They also like and dislike sjws, undertale, trigger words, and so on, because there is no one 'Tumblr opinion'.
As much as I find people who do get in everyone's face about their ideas of what social justice is annoying, as much as I find Anita Sarkeesian and the depiction of gamers as this violent group of potential rapists infuriating, I find the white guys who allow what tumblr likes to rule their lives, bitching about games and shows they haven't watched and constantly filling my feed with this kind of shit
[t]http://static.fjcdn.com/pictures/Trigger+chess_350f06_5493103.jpg[/t]
that's just the same fucking unfunny, family guy tier joke, every time, like 5 times more fucking annoying
[editline]e[/editline]
And even if it isn't about social justice anybody who sits there complaining and hating on something they haven't actually tried, like Undertale, because other people like it and that's just somehow unacceptable, is just as fucking annoying. You've got to be one immature little bitch of a person to sit there wanting to hate a game or a tv show or a band or an entire genre with an unbridled passion without even knowing anything about it. The guys who hate rap music who don't know anything about rap music and have never tried it, the guys who hate Undertale because other people like it, the guys who go in to anything wanting to hate it because of some immature contrarian attitude they have. Just fuuuuuuuuuuuck OFF

The best part about it was Mario was the character he was up against on the final bracket. Gordon won by a large percentage, and the percentage of the votes Gordon got was used on a sale for the Half-Life games after the victory.

There are other great game heroes, and we're gonna let you play with them, but Gordon Freeman is THE BEST GAME HERO OF ALL TIME at least according to 55.8% of the gaming public - thank you to all who voted.
The term was originally used to refer to certain behaviors (Look up Zoey Quinn, Steven Universe Harassment, etc) but now its a catchall for the regressive left. Think, fighting racism with racism, #killallmen, ban sexist/racist/violent videogames to protect X group, etc. The types of people that care more about feelings than freedom.
Groups like /pol/ and that redpillarmy nonsense pretty much use it to anybody not an anarchist/libertarian/conservative. It has largely lost its meaning because of this.
don't you guys know that "best game of all time" is a title reserved only for nintendo games from the 90s
Only time I saw this game was when DSP played it, I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal is.
Honestly, Undertale didn't deserve to win... which is why I voted for it. Can you imagine an internet forum getting mad over a popularity contest?
Only time I saw this game was when DSP played it, I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal is.
Are you really trying though?
If you're disinterested, then that's obviously fine, but if you're genuinely interested in finding out what exactly it's all about, then you could buy it. (& refund within the time limit if you think it's shit)
But in short, it's a good parody RPG/bullet hell game with an atrocious fanbase, and that atrocious fanbase makes it appear less approachable & appealing.
