I think the new clown version tends to be more 'relatable' from a kid's perspective. I know the 'don't talk to or take stuff fro strangers' is still there, but kids relate more to other kids... well, in this situation, the clown is actually a young person (facially) that instantly grabs familiarity, although the voice modulations give everything away for the mature audience.
A kid being lured to a world filled with clowns, candy, balloons and popcorn is more palpable when the offer comes from another kid.
I liked the old movie, but an old clown wasn't fully relatable to the plot.
Even though IT is a shapeshifter, a kid/young version is visually pleasing and more-on-point for the overall goal: toy with kids, lure them and eat them.
Pennywise explicitly states [sp]he chose the clown because it disarms people, and in particular "what child doesn't like a clown?"[/sp], during one of the chapters with the internal thoughts of [sp]the Deadlights[/sp].
I see what you mean, I just perceived that as Pennywise's sick sense of humour.
After watching this I wanted to know more (I'm not really familiar with Stephen Kings stuff) because I've never seen the original and the lore is way fucking deeper than I could've imagined jesus christ thats some genuine creativity

[sp]can't wait for the crew to have a giant orgy after defeating IT to boost morale, at least that's what I read in the wiki, right?[/sp]

sorry should have wrote more than that one sentence, what I'm implying is that while I have not watched the first one and read only the summary of the plot, lots of things there are kinda just super weird and are not making a lot of sense
I just hope people are not expecting an adaptation of the old film in every way as most expect it to, lots of things have changed and sequels of horror movies are never gonna work as what you expect to so treat this film with an open mind is all I'm saying
sincerely, Andy Muschietti
