The thing is though, is that Rockstar North have been making open world games with a modern setting for quite a while, whereas Watch Dogs is Ubisoft Montreal's first open world game with a modern setting. I say cut them a break.
I'm willing to bet they knew what they were doing perfectly well. Build tons of hype with only controlled amounts of gameplay out and then roll in dosh like they are doing now.

Imagine what GTA V will look like if it ever comes to PC
gta 5
i have it on my 360 and it looks like shit been a while since i last played it but the resolution, (lack of) anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering were pretty bad i hope the pc version comes out soon so i can actually play it

the fire hydrant thing isn't even a last gen thing it went through your care in the PS2 games this PS4 game is on par with PS2 games
I normally don't care if a game can't out-perform a 6-year old game graphics wise. I do care when a game which is marketed as the most beautiful next gen super amazing game ever can't out-perform a 6-year old game graphics wise.
a delay of 6 months for nothing. they just downgraded it. not worth it. i have GTA 4 on pc so...

They made a lot of nice assets for the game but they don't do well in smudgy 720p and low-res textures.
I don't care about graphics or anything, but if a next gen game has the physics of SR4 on drugs, then it obviously suck shit.
I don't care about graphics or anything, but if a next gen game has the physics of SR4 on drugs, then it obviously suck shit.
The glitchy physics add even more entertainment value to the game, I've found. [editline]1st June 2014[/editline] If you just play through the game thinking that Aiden has hacked reality to be incredibly broken, the game suddenly makes a whole lot more sense.
like here's a few videos some guy made on youtube about GTA: *Videos* Watch Dogs could have easily included a ton of these details, but they simply didnt. All these tiny details that GTA has, that Watch_Dogs doesn't, raised the bar a fuckton when it came to polish on a video game. Hopefully the next Watch_Dogs is next gen exclusive, then it could maybe reach this level next time around.
As people have stated before, Rockstar is neurotic about including incredibly minute levels of detail. Pretty much no open world game except the GTA series gets that in-depth. It's sort of like Hideo Kojima with the metal gear games. I could argue that modern stealth games aren't as next gen as Metal Gear Solid 3 was because you can't capture a snake then throw it at someone as a weapon. If you're going to say Watch_Dogs is crap because it doesn't include those features then you'd have to say pretty much every open world game other than GTA is just as crappy.
i can honestly say i'm having more fun in this game than GTA IV singleplayer, though. (not multiplayer, though, too many good times) i can see why people are pissed because of the way it was marketed. but that's marketing for you. especially with ubisoft. remember how hyped everyone was for Assassins Creed? Then they release and it's the same mission repeated until you beat the game. Really makes me hyped for Watch Dogs 2, though.
Really makes me hyped for Watch Dogs 2, though.
Are you serious? It's going to need a LOT of improvements, and to be honest instead of making people wait and buy a fixed game they should fix their already broken one that people have paid good money for
i can honestly say i'm having more fun in this game than GTA IV singleplayer, though. (not multiplayer, though, too many good times)
Well, that's certainly a little easy to beat. There was hardly anything to do in GTA IV single player, especially since they streamlined the few things they brought back from GTA SA, and that didn't help with the game's single player content. But I suppose that's partly how I judge the game, I've been wanting a game that could actually fill the void GTA IV left me with.
like here's a few videos some guy made on youtube about GTA: vid vid vid Watch Dogs could have easily included a ton of these details, but they simply didnt. I think Ubisoft can atleast make the excuse that their budget was like 50% advertising (damn execs,) and they only had 70 mil while GTAV had 100 mil (and that's a BIG difference.) I think when it came to little details, Ubisoft was more focused on the AI and making the world feel alive instead of having flip flops that move separately from the feet or details like that :V: Though i will say, GTAV has hella detail compared to Watch Dogs
the blind hatred of watchdogs on this site is hilarious [editline]1st June 2014[/editline] like the complaints about the graphics quality? it looks fine, saying it looks like shit is such an exaggeration, you're just saying that because you expected the same quality as a pre-release demo
the blind hatred of watchdogs on this site is hilarious
"Blind hatred". Read the thread, buddy. It isn't "blind hatred".
this game is one of those games where u can't be creative in having fun, maybe just with the glitches, but other than that it's pretty boring. such a gimmick.
like the complaints about the graphics quality? it looks fine, saying it looks like shit is such an exaggeration, you're just saying that because you expected the same quality as a pre-release demo
Expecting something to be the way it was marketed?? Those entitled dweebs, am I right??
Are you serious? It's going to need a LOT of improvements, and to be honest instead of making people wait and buy a fixed game they should fix their already broken one that people have paid good money for
They are working on improving the current game, of course. And my point is the leap of quality between AC and ACII makes me hyped for Watch Dogs. And most of the improvements I'm hoping for are better optimization efforts for the Disrupt engine, which is happening right now, and find a better way to do the harder hacks instead of a connect-the-pipes minigame. There are plenty more improvements that can be made, but those are the really important ones at the top of my head. That's the part of the game that keeps bringing me back. I keep finding new and sometimes hilarious (some make me feel like a boss) ways to hack and tail other players, and stop invaders while in a chase. [editline]1st June 2014[/editline]
Expecting something to be the way it was marketed?? Those entitled dweebs, am I right??
Totally get the anger there. But that's no reason to hyperbole it up and completely bash the game. Say what you're actually mad about instead of stooping to "THIS GAME IS GARBAGE, LOOKS LIKE TRASH, UNPLAYABLE". Also, no, I'm not referring to you in particular.
If you enjoyed the game, why would you spend so much time on forums arguing with people about whether or not it's a good game? I seriously don't understand, the only reason for it would be you trying to convince yourself that you're enjoying it, or some form of elaborate buyers remorse. I mean discussion about games is one thing, but this isn't a discussion. It's literally "i dont like this feature in the game" retorted with "i do like that feature, its a good feature" ad-nauseam. What are you even trying to accomplish?

Also, welcome to an internet forum, where conversations happen.
yeah but not adding fucking bullet impacts on the ground/water? thats been in most games that involve guns for over 20 years
This is an excellent criticism for the game and should definitely be what you focus on when whining. Oh wait, you shouldn't be shooting at the water in the first place, so there's no point. 'Hi yes I am Aiden Bigcoat, today i shoot the water as I can't hack it.' I can definitely see that coming up in discussions at Ubisoft Montreal when they're trying to fix the important issues.

It doesn't matter if you should be shooting at the water or not (like, y'know, at enemies that fall in it but don't hurt yourself with those critical thinking skills), it's a thing that's been in games for generations but was just left out for no reason in a supposedly super immersive, graphically intensive "next gen" game. It is excellent criticism because it's accurate criticism.

Don't make an open world game if you're going to half ass the environment and make it feel like the city is a cardboard facade with puppets for civilians. If they had of took the hacking elements, the good parts of the story and the good characters, they could make a kickass stealth game.
