hey yo anyone got a video of that train turn thing?
I went to go check it out. I don't know what the guy was talking about because it doesn't happen.
I went to go check it out. I don't know what the guy was talking about because it doesn't happen.
I think it was bullshit - I ran past an almost identical spot while milling about the railways, and that spot is basically a turn area for the trains. there's curved rails that go in and out of that spot, and then the two rails running perpendicular to it are headed to other areas of the cities.
most of them are oversights in production or probably design decisions (referencing the car deformation), not technological features - anyone who takes these complaints to criticize the engine's technological capabilities don't know what they're talking about and shouldn't be listened to
except the animation system. but I can't fault them for not implementing a very specific proprietary animation engine for 'off-balance citizens'
A bit disappointing, but the water effects in Watch Dogs are much better and Watch Dogs does have vehicle deformation, it is just subtle. Even GTA V toned down the vehicle deformation, it was pretty silly in GTA IV.
Also why is Watch Dogs not having wheels react to steps or scrape the walls such a big deal? Saints Row, Sleeping Dogs, and Just Cause 2 didn't have those things and no one bitched about it. The only open world game with the neurotic attention to detail that GTA has that I can think of was Mafia 2, and that had very little outside of the story missions.
People seem to forget that GTA IV and V were some of the most expensive games to produce when they were released, GTA IV made headlines because of it's cost, even if that number is fairly standard these days. I'm not saying that excuses Watch Dogs for disappointing people, but they seem to have had unreasonable expectations from the outset. I've seen some screenshots of the game on ultra which look gorgeous and seen people saying the game is hideous in response, the anti-hype for this game is ridiculous, it's like people are looking for any tiny reason to hate this game.

It amazes me that such things matter so much to some people. They act as if it's some big, huge feature that will 100% break their immersion if they can't do it when some other game allows it.
there are many reasons to dislike watchdogs, the features in the video are some of the weakest ones
(the samey missions, lack of depth in gameplay, and a really basic stealth system all come to mind)
To call WD's stealth really basic is a gross underestimate.
sometimes i think corporate game devs should step back and make a game they can actually handle because the last 5 or so years have been generally disappointing, watch dogs sounded way too ambitious from the announcement, even worse they always hype the game up as what they wanted it to be and not what it actually is
I remember when people were saying Saints Row 2 was gonna be better then gta 4. Not even Saints Row 4 was better then gta 4.
I remember when people were saying Saints Row 2 was gonna be better then gta 4. Not even Saints Row 4 was better then gta 4.
saints row 2 wasn't marketing itself as a next gen masterpiece with *big word that means a lot of textures* or *another big word about tessellation or depth of field or some shit* tho.
it was going for the "look how much more fun we are" route, and to a lot of people it succeeded, despite how shittily it ran.
(...) Watch Dogs does have vehicle deformation, it is just subtle. Even GTA V toned down the vehicle deformation, it was pretty silly in GTA IV. (...)
Well it's silly in all of those games, really. None do it realistically. The cars don't crumple nearly enough in any of them.
GTA IV set my standards for ragdoll physics and car damage in open world games like that
The only games that have met those standards are other Rockstar games, pre determined car damage and Half Life 2 tier ragdoll physics are fucking garbage, its 2014, pull it together
Even if GTA V was a little lighter on the ragdoll physics and car damage it was still leagues better than Saints Row, Just Cause, Sleeping Dogs etc etc
Even Half-life has better ragdolls than this. In half life the ragdolls keep the velocity from the animation, in watchdogs they just take position so everyone kinda seizes up when they get hit while airborne.

Oh please. Don't even start with this crap. You don't see Bethesda or Rockstar North doing shit like this.

Did you fucking play GTA5, most people's GOTY was it? Because for me it was Disappointment of the Year (excluding my mock exam results...)
lol you guys are seriously disappointed with gta 5
skyrim and gta5 are 2 shining examples of why you're wrong
skyrim could've been better if they wouldn't have went for the 11.11.11 novelty release date
The Car damage and euphoria ragdolls from GTA4 should be in every game that has cars and characters. It should be the gold standard to be improved upon because it's pretty much unanimously the best that there's been (Aside from say, BeamNG, but that goes above the standard)
GTA5 also did water really fucking well. I could almost smell the coast it was done so well. And it's not just because I live on the coast
Am I the only one who thought that Euphoria was really overdramatic or stupid? It can do some cool things but most people getting killed will flop to the floor like a ragdoll.
I prefer how people die in RO2, where they collapse and clutch themselves.
Never change Facepunch.

Red Dead Redemption is the pinnacle of ragdolls reaction to damage/physics, I still play that game just to admire how people take bullets
I don't know what happened with Max Payne 3 and GTA V but Rockstar perfected euphoria in RDR

Wow man, I get it you don't like me. But at the end of the GTA5 wasn't a bad game it was just crazily overrated after all the hype for it, Watch_Dogs looks like the same thing.
Anyway, sorry for disagreeing with you, I'll make sure to keep my opinions on gaming to a minimum on a forum centering around gaming discussion in the future.

Sorry for seeming like a dick, but a lot of the stuff you post is holding games to an impossible standard. Really need to bring your standard down a bit.
Yo hold your fucking horses everyone, I need to point this shit out
Been off the internet for the past few weeks? There's a huge bandwagon the size of a graboid going around that watch dogs is the disappointment of the year.
The Graboids weren't even that big, not bigger than an actual bandwagon.
Get your Tremors trivia straight before you talk shit.
Fucking unbelievable.
to be fair

Yeah and Ubisoft has been doing open world ancient cities lol

I always found GTAV hype from the fans who love GTA, and GTA has always been a really solid series, a lot of differing opinions on the best but all are high quality, it was really your fault if you got caught up in the fan hype, Rockstar didnt really hype like crazy acting like some fucking masterpiece. Watch_Dogs hype seemed to come from a shitload of marketing.

Yeah, you know what game had a gas can like 10-11 years ago? Postal 2. That game is from 2003. A decade later it's in a GTA game, but they couldn't even integrate peeing into GTA V... How disappointing.
As this is a ubisoft title, I expect the sequel to improve upon the game in every aspect.
Damn I'm surprised by the amount of detail gta4 had that I missed.
IV still stands up to the current gen imo, apart from a few minor details it's still quite a good looking game

Oh yeah like they did with farcry and assassin's creed right?
Assassin's Creed 1? Pretty damn good.
Assassin's Creed 2?
Oh yeah like they did with farcry and assassin's creed right?
Yes, it's a pattern, whenever Ubisoft Montreal makes something mediocre, they improve upon it with the next game.
Far Cry 2 was boring and generally meh, Far Cry 3 improved in every aspect (though it still had some flaws, I expect them to improve upon that in 4)
AC1 was dry and boring, but a nice concept, so AC2 improved upon that and made it more interesting, Brotherhood also attempted to improve upon AC2 with some ideas for new features, but it had less focus on cool and interesting environments. Then Revelations came along and tried to have more interesting locations but still had some issues.
AC3 was shit, but then Black Flag came along and focused on one interesting element of AC3, and made a fairly fun experience out of that.
Watch Dogs 2, when it comes out (you just know they're going to make one), will be improve upon the issues of Watch Dogs 1, and will be a fairly good game.
