They said due to the physics that weapons will be able to slide along shields and bodies, I hope they mean plate armor as well.

Perhaps they could make it so that when fighting plate-clad opponents, the focus shifts from trying to get hits to trying to knock them down and then use finishers only. You could make some small hitboxes for exposed joints but that might be tricky and inaccurate in practice.

This part here would be extremely difficult to do well. Especially if you have safety in mind.
