I would rather play Oblivion by itself rather than Oblivion ported over to Skyrim's version of the gamebryo engine. Sure it looks better in terms of lighting, but Oblivion still has better mods. FCOM is the best mod pack combining some of the best Oblivion overhaul mods into a single mod which makes the world feel more real and dynamic. I have yet to see a single Skyrim mod do the same for Skyrim. The only real advantage Skyrim has over Oblivion is when it comes to humanoid NPC models and faces, which is what I would welcome.
Also what's up with the redwood trees? I don't remember those in Oblivion.
surprisingly pretty.
Looks pretty much the same, honestly? Mods available for Oblivion could make it look waaaaay better than that.

To be honest I would rather see a development team's own take on Oblivion rather than port a lot of the world over. One major complaint with Oblivion was the lack of unique dungeons, as TES fans stated that most were lackluster or 'copy and paste'. Perhaps they could create their own caves and dungeons using new models and textures that are used in the editor to create dungeons. For example in the oblivion construction set I could make a cave, but I would have to select walls, floors, and ceilings, and put them together like a puzzle piece. All dungeons share these same models so once you've seen one, you have seen them all. I would like to see them change this up, as well as add more danger to alyied ruins and the wilderness.
An alternative start would be great too because I do not wish to entertain the main quest once more. I do not want to be the Hero of Kvatch, nor the Champion of Cyrodiil. I believe many players feel this way, especially when it comes to the default Skyrim experience.
Here's just an example of what mods for Oblivion can do:

Of course Skyrim with its many high quality graphics mods can do much more.

There's been an alternative start mod available for every Bethesda Gamebryo game since Oblivion. Possibly since Morrowind, but I have a hard time finding mods for Morrowind.

I am aware of this as I have used them from time to time. I am just stating that it would be a good thing for the developers to improve upon what Oblivion had to offer rather than just porting everything over and trying to stay true to the original game as much as possible. I personally don't see much point in this as Oblivion is still good and has not aged too badly. For Morrowind it makes sense because the game has aged, and it's an absolute classic in the hearts and minds of many.
That musical arrangement was terrible. Whoever sampled it did a poor job.

If you want to play an improved Oblivion why don't you just play Skyrim
After Oblivion came out they started porting Morrowind to the Oblivion engine.
Then Skyrim came out and now they're porting Morrowind and Oblivion to the Skyrim engine.
I can't wait until the next TES comes out!

Because skyrim and oblivion are totally different?

That does not look good. Looks like overdone bloom + contrast filter.

There's a mod to make the faces less crap, and I'm willing to bet there's one for the NPC models as well.
can't wait to dragon-shout this fucker

I wish Bethsada would just make remakes of Morrowind and Oblivion. Because for me my first game was Skyrim and going back to the older games was really hard and not very enjoyable.

Agreed. It just feels like a bad post-processing filter. The only addition(?) that seemed worth looking into was the light shafts they showed off.
If anybody knows any complete overhauls for oblivion, or even tons of small mods that do the job of making Tamriel a world possible to get completely immersed in again, please let the rest of us know. Nothing I'd seen so far really touched the very low-res and flat-looking textures in the base game. I want to be blown away like what some skyim mods have managed. I want to re-experience Tamriel and explore it, as if for the first time, all over again.
Anyone who thinks that Skyblivion doesn't look much better than Oblivion should probably boot up oblivion again and take another look because having played it last week I can see it looks much better, even without an ENB. Not to mention not many textures have been remade at this point and so those are all still old assets which are going to be redone.

Speaking from your standpoint, Oblivion was easy to get into because it isn't all that different from Skyrim, but trying to play Morrowind is fucking impossible when you are used to Skyrim.

Ugh do I really have to do this? Fine. Also the game looked good in parts of that video and that's why I linked it. On top of the character models mod that was linked earlier, here are some good ones.

Next thing you know there's going to be SkySkyrim, Skyrim remade in the Skyrim engine!

Fallout 4 engine.
This is the only good texture revamp mod I know of:

Grab this one too, but it might not be compatible with the grass mod I linked. Find out yourself:

That's all I'll link for now, but this is making me realize that Skyblivion is somewhat of a redundant project considering what you can do with the base game as is. The same could be said about Skywind, however I believe that to be a different case as the game even with mods is still aged when it comes to some mechanics (not a bad thing).

Skyrim was my first elder scrolls game and I still prefer Morrowind.
I'm waiting for openmw though for my next playthrough because the performance is horrible with MGE.

Has anyone updated FCOM? I wanted to give it another go but I'm pretty sure half the mods on the FCOM site are dead. Plus they never finished their actual mod to begin with :c

FCOM Super Pack still exists but it hasn't been updated for years, and it does have some mods built in that I don't like. It has everything that is needed, and you don't have to do any 3 hour installations.
