A fair bit of anime sucks, most anime is forgettable but not awful, a nice selection of it is pretty good.
Important thing to remember is that the medium should not be judged by looking at what 90% of the fans are like.

There's like 5 pictures tops over a 216 page book, those little black streaks on the fore-edge. It's near universal for japanese novels to have a small handful of imagery tossed in, doesn't make it less of a book.
