With myself, there was some really fat greasy weird girl in highschool who'd always follow me around and never shut up about anime. So whenever I see most anime stuff I think I subconsciously think of her and how gross and annoying she was, so I have this negative association type thing.
That's my theory anyways, because most anime things just kinda bother me way more than they should for no real reason.

I've lost friends to Anime; I've seen them turn into massive shut-ins, that start only talking about Anime whenever you want to check up on them.
I personally enjoy a bit of Anime, having watched a large chunk of Bleach as a kid, then just last year watching Angle Beats and Clannad, followed by Steins;Gate, but I just can't stand it with how cultist it makes people, look at most of the Anime watchers on FP, they probably have Anime avatars. Anime is extremely polarizing, and that's I guess why I dislike it.

I have two chicks at school who watch anime. One of them is a pizza face whale with disgusting granny cowtits, the other is a respectable young lady from the Philippines who aces English, Maths and Chemistry and I went to formal with her.
The former exclusively torrents 240p dubbed Naruto and if I even look in her direction she'll rant at me about her favourite shippings. The latter actually pays money for her HD content and then every morning we have a nice three minute chat about the latest episode of whatever high-budget show we watched the night prior.
this thread got so much better after we started sharing stories of people who watch anime you know

like any form of entertainment let me comment on the use of horror and gore.
Horror and Gore is only effective if it's brought up in the show rarely. If a show contains nothing but killing then it just becomes really tame, instead of something like stand by me where the scene with [sp]the kids corpse[/sp] is actually quite shocking: it only happened once and it was brought up in the film a lot by the kids.
Constant stream of gore isn't gross, it's just predictable after a while. Also the golden rule with any sort of media: "less is more"
