I wasn't talking about videogames or tv, but I hold a similar viewpoint for games. At least some games actually make you think though.
That wasn't really my point, I was trying to make the point that if you discriminate in such a manner towards anime fans, you should discriminate like that towards fans of anything (or think about what you're doing, that works too)
Because it applies to pretty much every kind of medium.
If anything, you shouldn't generalize about a large group of people through your goggles which only display the loud and very visible minority.
You really shouldn't try to make a statement about something which you clearly don't actually know anything about, you're free to dislike the medium, but don't make statements about things you clearly know nothing about.
Oh no! now anime is mind controlling the children? call obama right now!
Heello? I don't think an cartoon is ruining someone's life, are you completely forgetting about the american cartoons? video games? movies? books? and the list goes on beyond.
I grew up on american and canadian cartoons and I moved on. But for some reason, anime seems to reel people in and make people devote their entire lives to the shit for whatever reason. It's weird and embarrassing to watch people do this.
If I go through your post history like 90% of your fucking posts are in fast anime, and I'm sure that when you are actually doing something off of facepunch, it's no different
one more thing, I have a ton of posts in fast anime because I dislike other anime forums because it's full of obsessed fanboy circlejerking and FA is not this most of the time.
4 years or so back you'd notice all my posts were centered around the now defunct picture wars subforum and the elder scrolls thread, I tend to only focus on a few threads so as to not waste my entire day on fp.

So because you don't understand why they do it, you're afraid of the "weird" people and want to cast them out?
.. How very adult of you, congratulations.
I'm probably just preaching to the choir now though, because you've obviously got your idea about how things are and don't want to take in anyones point of view.

I don't broadly discriminate against most groups, but since I have known quite a few people who ended up falling prey to anime and became hollow shells of people, it makes me believe that it's not just an internet phenomenon like you seem to think.

I'm talking about actual thought, using the parts of the brain that help with puzzle solving. Not using the parts of the brain that help you work out where your life went wrong which is what anime does.

what the fuck do you think anime is, a reaper from mass effect?!

What exactly would you define as a "hollow shell" of a person?
I know plenty of people who lead perfectly normal lives, do sports, study and also (gasp) watch anime occasionally.
But that point you're making about puzzle solving, doesn't that apply to almost every kind of non-interactive medium? Why is anime special there?

lol, good try. Not going to fall for it, though. (#3)
Also, people taking it to the extreme happens in *every* hobby. If you're going to hate each one of them just because of tryhards, you're going to have a sad life.
what the fuck do you think anime is, a reaper from mass effect?!
It makes people complete zombies that hide away. I knew a kid that I used to be friends with who literally skipped 80% of a school year just to marathon anime shows. And it's not just exclusive to him.

Have you completly forgot the entire world is composed of different people with different taste? nobody is going to be you and watch cartoon then after just drop it, of course there is going to be people who will still like it, and that goes for VG, Cartoons, books, films, tv shows and the list goes on
You don't have a reason or basis on why

A hollow shell of a person would be someone who becomes a complete social outcast and hides away in favour of their favourite animu~ characters

Yeah but you ain't watching Kōji Yamamura's adaptation of A Country Doctor, you're watching *right clicks and searches google for the source of that sexy, kawaii avatar* anime based off 4-panel comic #103104. Real erudite stuff, my kawaii animes.

And that's what makes me annoyed. You can't make a worthy contribution to the species if all you do is sit on your ass and watch cartoons all day.
Anime is fun.

I'm rather confused with this opinion that it seems like you think that all people lack self control and can't limit themselves.
It's almost as if you can watch something for a short while, then stop and do something else? Incredible.
(applies to every medium even)
And that's what makes me annoyed. You can't make a worthy contribution to the species if all you do is sit on your ass and watch cartoons all day.
people who watch tv all day
people who play games all day
ect
stop acting like anime is a unique disease that infects you and makes you a loser.

Most mediums provide a method of contributing in some way. Other than the minuscule chance of becoming an author or animator, what is anime gonna get you.

People who watch tv all day and people who play games all day are no better? What are you trying to get at. Why would I make an exception for other wastes of space based just on the context of what they are doing?

because you're saying that anime is somehow inherently worse then these.
Most mediums provide a method of contributing in some way. Other than the minuscule chance of becoming an author or animator, what is anime gonna get you.
like this, what do i contribute to the world by watching Citizen Kane, or playing halo.
Most mediums provide a method of contributing in some way. Other than the minuscule chance of becoming an author or animator, what is anime gonna get you.
They do?
How do you contribute when reading a book exactly? (that miniscule chance of becoming an author you just mentioned, huh)
Or watching a tv series? (same as anime here eh?)
Or playing a game? You're just sitting there twiddling your fingers.
What mediums are you referring to exactly? I'm curious because it just looks like you're trying to make an argument based on hot air.
what does this mean.
It means that people who do nothing but watch movies and tv all day could become directors, producers, cinematographers, and actors, costume designers, etc, and anime could only potentially net you a career in like art, or writing.
Most mediums provide a method of contributing in some way. Other than the minuscule chance of becoming an author or animator, what is anime gonna get you.
How in the blazing hell watching anime is going to make you an animator?
how the hell consuming a medium makes you contribute?

Consuming a medium teaches you absolutely nothing about creating it.
How many hardcore gamers become game developers for instance? .. Unless you're actually thinking about it, you're not gonna get anything out of it, and even then chances are you'll get nothing out of it if you're not trying your hand at it yourself.
There is a vast difference between studying something and just looking at it.

Books can give you an idea of what you want to do with your lives since there are so many books on so many subjects. Dinosaur books could make you want to pursue a career in paleotology, history books, a career related to history, geography books, one of many different careers in geography, and the list goes on.
And I'm talking TV/Movies, Books/magazines, even video games have a better chance of getting you a career of some sort if you prove your mettle.

That's reading as a means for educating yourself, different from reading for entertainment, which is what I thought we were talking about?
But okay sure, maybe with magazines you have a point.

These mediums can inspire you to pursue subjects you enjoy genius. Movies and books have helped me figure out exactly what subjects I am interested in, and what I may want to do with my life.
How many anime series can do that?

what if I watched an anime about cooking (these exist!) and decided to be a chef, this is YOUR LOGIC so you can't possibly argue with this right?!
