That's reading as a means for educating yourself, different from reading for entertainment, which is what I thought we were talking about? But okay sure, maybe with magazines you have a point.
Reading as a form of entertainment may be less beneficial but books such as the ones by Michael Crichton have legitimate facts and information behind them in most cases and are also fun to read. [editline]28th June 2014[/editline]
what if I watched an anime about cooking (these exist!) and decided to be a chef, this is YOUR LOGIC so you can't possibly argue with this right?! [editline]28th June 2014[/editline] stop watching naruto and find out.
I don't know about you but I think we have established that I don't watch anime?
I don't know about you but I think we have established that I don't watch anime?
I'm saying that you seem to think anime is a very narrow existence when it's exactly the same as every medium. there are a ton of anime about hobbies or careers, just like books.

Usually you want something to base your statements on or it's all literally nothing but opinion pieces. It's almost like if I would go into a medium you liked, said it was all garbage and only neckbeards consumed it even though I had only seen the top layer. Of course, that's assuming you even like anything, I'm not sure you do. At this point, what medium it is doesn't even matter because the problem is you don't know anything about it.
Reading as a form of entertainment may be less beneficial but books such as the ones by Michael Crichton have legitimate facts and information behind them in most cases and are also fun to read.
Now, i'm a simple man, i like simple things and i live a simple life. But i think that ANY form of media that you participate in that makes you feel happy is worth doing. Some people may like cartoons, some may like live action, others may like to see a rendition of something using geometric shapes or something equally bizarre But as long as you're not harming anyone by doing so then what does it even matter what you like? Live and let live, it's not your place to judge and neither is it theirs.
Yeah like anyone not mind-controlled by animu would want to get mind-controlled duh
Working!! really gets the gears in your head spinning about the nature of employment
Expanding on that, I came across this before: http://myanimelist.net/anime/3001/Moyashimon Based around a a guy who can supposedly see microbes, it might sound like a ridiculous premise but it's educational about microbes, processes like fermentation and things surrounding agriculture. Obviously not scientifically modeled visual representations, it still has to be watchable while staying educational.
Working!! really gets the gears in your head spinning about the nature of employment
Indeed. I am now fearful that my next place of employment will have a raging psychotic androphobe. But there's also the odds of there being an adorable midget so 50/50.
Its OK to like anime
it's educational about microbes

talk to cute, chibi bacteria and other microscopic organisms.
Bacteria and other microscopic organisms can't talk though. Pseudoscience.
Bacteria and other microscopic organisms can't talk though. Pseudoscience.
How do you know for sure?
How do you know for sure?
They live in their own world which is so different from ours that it can as well be different plane of existence. I always found this fascinating tbh Would be rad to talk to one, what it would have to say. What it would even sound like, if it could at all.
anime is a sin, seek repentance my child
there's a special circle of hell for anime watchers, it's very kowai
anime is a sin, seek repentance my child
That is one sin that can not be forgiven. The punishment will be passed onto your children and your children's children until the end of time.

It's okay for people to like certain things.

oh my god just don't give him fucking attention
It makes people complete zombies that hide away. I knew a kid that I used to be friends with who literally skipped 80% of a school year just to marathon anime shows. And it's not just exclusive to him.
so you're making mass generalizations regarding a hobby based on a singular personal experience with a guy you knew once okay
why the fuck are there five pages over this?
I know,I've been trying to tell them to lock this shit but they're not locking it.
Most mediums provide a method of contributing in some way. Other than the minuscule chance of becoming an author or animator, what is anime gonna get you.
I started watching anime about a year ago and now I have thousands of new fans, new friends, high-profile industry connections, a panel at a convention in a few weeks, a DVD coming out in Japan this fall, and I'm going to Tokyo in August to attend Comiket and sell DVDs there. I've also been on TV a few times, had many articles written about me and I was interviewed in a Japanese newspaper but other than that idk
