OK lets talk about Mario. Mario is constantly saving Peach. This is the way that the developers wrote the game. The woman is shown to be incapable of saving herself. They could have wrote it any way they want, they could have had peach escape, kill bowser, and be in the castle at the end and then tell mario, "I don't need no man!!!" and then kick him out of her newly conquered castle (this is a joke, don't get too worked up by it or even claim that this is what I want in a game) but they didn't. The developers are choosing to put the women in these situations. They could easily flip the script (some do) or make the goal of a game something else (save the world, or something?).

feminism was incredibly important in breaking down sexual repression which led to the sexual revolution in the early 60's because, and this is historical, the most important thing in a free society (and the only way to lift a country out of poverty if i might add) is to give women the right to their own reproduction and this happened with the birth control pill which combined with the philosophy of the "new free woman" of second-wave feminism lifted the veil completely on all issues of sexuality in western culture, and that was absolutely crucial for the existence of LGBT discourse which went hand in hand as many famous feminists in the 70s were also successful in campaigning for lgbt rights, see gloria steinem

I think you missed the point of the damsel in distress video. That specific trope puts the damsel character in a passive position.
She doesn't claim that the trope itself is necessarily a harmful trope. Rather its the widespread use of it on female characters who's main attribute is to be a damsel in distress that is damaging.
That trope being widespread gives the subtle impression that women are passive and need to be acted upon.
Zelda and Princess Peach were used as examples of this trend.
