• Uncle eats niece's pet dragonfly

It was stupid that he did it at the same time the girl needs to calm down and get over it, same with you guys. It's a bug, no need to act like this guy is such a monster. Grow up. And really telling someone "I ate your dragonfly" has a way lower impact than saying "I ran over your cat".
It is a dick move, but eating insects is not very unusual. They are consumed by billions of people every year intentionally. You have probably consumed them as well accidentally either as contaminates that meet the FDA approved levels or as food dye (any food containing cochineal or carmine has beetles in it). Plus they are cheaper to farm, have excellent feed conversion rates, and are better for the environment that most protein sources in the west. I am seriously considering ordering some insects and having a taste party
Where can i order theese things? I wanna eat some. EDIT: I wonder what the average age of a facepuncher is, 13? You guys act like 13 year olds about this bug.
You guys are too dramatic, in that age every insect is her pet insect.
"You don't know what kinda things'll that what kinda dragonflys what they have"

Thinkgeek sells bugs too now. You could do a search online to see if you have any local sources, I know a shop in my hometown sells flavored crickets with the constancy of popcorn. Maybe if you weren't all patting yourself on the back for your edgy apathy toward dragonflies, you'd realize nobody's mourning it's death. It's no different than taking a kid's favorite stuffed toy and throwing it in a fire. Taking something a kid is attached to and destroying it is a real piece of shit thing to do no matter how much sense it makes for the kid to be attached to it. It might not the most scarring thing you can do to a kid, but it's still the pointlessly cruel sort of thing that takes a very maladjusted person to do.
You guys are absurd... Only on the internet could the death of a dragonfly have such impact.
It's still not about the dragonfly. It's about the niece. And the fact that she saw it happen. Seriously the video was actually kind of disturbing, almost frightening, to me. So imagine how it must feel to someone who is there, a child, and someone who is emotionally attached to the dragonfly. Nobody here really cares about the dragonfly, we care about this guy deliberately upsetting his niece.
I fucking HATE it when you can see the animal trying its hardest, y'know, not to die while people are stood there laughing at watching like it's @funny lol
It's a fucking dragonfly, if this is the kind of thing that upsets you then you need to seriously re-evaluate your life. Getting upset over a fucking insect, my god.

I have tried numerous insects and they were all fucking disgusting, regardless of how they were prepared. They are not things man was meant to eat whole. They are nutritious though.

I admit many taste bad, but even if only one percent tasted good that is still way more than enough to have a huge variety of flavors. A lot of it is perception; crabs, lobsters, crayfish and shrimp are already viewed as perfectly acceptable or even high quality food choices in the west. If you were raised in a different culture you would have no problem eating a nice fried spider or baked locust. Here is a good video about eating bugs... Read the thread sometime.

You do realize though, she is at the age where it's time to start learning these things. Such as not getting attached to everything you see. Things die unexpectedly, be it the cause of man or not, time to learn from that. You shouldn't be censoring the shit out of your kids anyways, it fucks them up more than dealing with the truth.
Seriously? 'heeey remember when that guy deliberately ran over your cat heh what a story that was' 'Oh no, someone ran over a mammal my daughter temporarily gave a shit about.' FUCKING seriously? Being emotionally attached to an animal is being emotionally attached to an animal, the fact that it's 'just an insect' doesn't really make it A-OK, esp. when he did it DELIBERATELY. The way the girl reacts to having her pet dragonfly get eaten is not that far from the way any of us would react if our pet got shot for absolutely NO reason.
He has a point, though. I forgot the name of my dog that got ran over when I was like 7. I can guarentee she wont give a shit about that thing in about a year at best.
Why the fuck can't people understand sentimental attachment? It's not about the value of the dragonfly, it's about the emotional value of it to the niece.

This guy legitimately has a screw loose. He's got murderer eyes or something.
I find it hilarious how some of you equate emotional attachment with (for example) a cat the same as with a dragonfly. No matter who you are, you view it differently (Cat>Dragonfly, i'd rather someone kill my pet bug over my pet mammal) . Again, it's different to kill some kids cat than their dragonfly/spider/etc pet. I'm not trying to justify the guys weird actions but still it doesn't matter if it hurt her feelings and she's young. She's growing up, and you're not going to by crying your eyes out over a bug. I understand being pissed at the guy for doing it but why ball your eyes and then have retards feel sympathy for her and say "AWW POOR LITTEL GURL, THAT GUY IS A MONSTER AND THE BIGGEST ASSHOLE ON THE PLANET" This is stupid, i'm out.
It surprises me how little many people in this thread care or understand the intrinsic value of life. The cold hard truth, however ridiculous you might find it, is the only difference between a cat and a dragonfly is that one is cuter and has a more complex nervous system. I guess since I personally don't kill anything unless it's a necessity I can empathize that the girl in the video had a right to be upset and the uncle is a gigantic asshole. I won't go so far as to call him a sociopath since it's pretty clear western culture doesn't really put much value on insects in general so it's pretty socially normal to kill them. I just don't get how it's hard to understand and empathize that she saw it as her pet and killing it did nothing good for her. all this talk about value of life, must all be vegetarian.

a bunch of socipathic nerds on a gaming forum don't understand sentimental attachment this is surprising to me i am surprised

I started a shitstorm. I'm sorry guys. :c
I love it when people start arguing that you shouldn't care about something as small as an insect. A person. One of over 7-billion organisms, who likely falls within the 95th percentile in every possible aspect and will likely never do, nor have the chance to do anything truly impactful. One who is neither the best at, nor the worst at anything. Arguing about insignificance.
