Yeah, that definitely threw me off guard. Good for her though, being a panelist at something like this when she likely faces a lot of discrimination has to take a lot of courage.

I agree, but she's still cute regardless.
Most of this was kids being kids, not really fair to call it cringe stuff. I probably derped out more when Lego conventions came to my city.
I actually liked that kid's question block costume.

The little enderman was cute too. Was afraid that the kid's question block was gonna knock a light down or something lmao.
Well I suppose it works both ways, the kids get to have fun and we get to laugh, it's a win win.
Gaming is gaming tbh, I wouldn't say sudoku counts, obvs, but I've always preferred to adhere to the prospect of anyone can game. And a vast majority of people do, now.
I think there are some people who are more than just hobby gamers but I honestly don't think gaming should be looked at as some exclusive thing that only a fair few can say they do just because the type of game they play is more intensive than others.
That being said, that panel was weird but I guess it's meant to help young girls feel like they can play games too. The idea behind it is fine! But the execution and the way the presenters were uh... presenting was kind of weird.
I totally agree with you that the intent is great, everyone should be able to pursue their hobby without worrying how they are seen or met by the peers.
Why interpret statistics that only favour you when using the most lenient standard for what a gamer, when you could use yourself as an example of making it in a male dominated scene.
For instance, girls that get told it's 50/50 are in for a rude awakening when they start playing multiplayer games on consoles and pcs.
The women that hosted the panel were oddly hostile to the girl's question, why can they not explain how they made it big on Youtube and how they are an example of being able to achieve fame.
I feel like I'm going way too deep for a silly cringe video, but a recent article I read says that another reason there is a glass ceiling is because of the invisible basement. The explanation that a lot of women are stuck in the lower segment of the job market is because women in the higher segment simply do not establish an old girl's network like men do.
I'm kind of going on a tangent, but I guess I'm trying to say that the women on the panel should've come from a different angle and been more encouraging from a personal point of view.
We are probably 100% in agreement with eachother and I shouldn't have bothered writing this wall of text :v:
Lmao don't worry I get what you mean.
I think a large part of it too is that most women that I know - and how I started off, as well - get their start in mobile and casual games. That's not to say there's not a ton of women who start off with things like FPS and RPG games, nah, but I feel like the average person will generally start with something easier before going into harder stuff.
But I still consider mobile games to be games, they're just not as intensive a lot of the time.
Which is a large reason why I don't really feel like "gamer" is a part of my identity. Like. Anyone can be a gamer. My grandma plays games. She's a "gamer".
It's nicer to just say that I enjoy playing a variety of games from low to high intensity. And I feel like kids might be more comfortable getting into games if they go into it with the idea that not all games are the same but people can enjoy whatever kinds of games they want and not be any less of a "gamer", rather than being fed statistics that they probably don't really care about...
They just wanna know that what they're into is cool and it's okay to have fun and enjoy whatever games they like.
In my completely honest opinion, "Gamer" is a stupid buzzword.
If you play board games, you're a gamer.
If you play Call of Duty, you're a gamer.
If you play Candy Crush, you're a gamer.
It doesn't matter what the game is, as long as it's fun to you and is something you do in your free time.
I call myself someone that enjoys games, because that's what I am.
I actually liked that kid's question block costume.
oh yeah right, that wasn't even awkward, that was pretty fucking cool
It's a gaming spectrum, going all the way from angry birds to your niche ww2 tractor simulator MMO.

so playing games is like autism :v:

When you think about it, a lot of long-time gamers started out with somewhat casual games, especially if they started early. I mean I went from Put-put and Freddy Fish to Rayman to Worms to Deus Ex. It makes sense that most gamers don't start out with the most hardcore games.
I think the main reason gamers have such an aversion against mobile games as opposed to other casual games like Tetris is their fucked, rotten business model. More often than not their very design is dedicated to making the player spend more money. The goal is not to offer them a fair challenge or an enjoyable one, but create the illusion that giving in to microtransactions would provide one.
This is why I and many others don't really consider those to be games. And the worst part is that it doesn't stay contained within that medium, more and more publishers attempt to introduce that shit to mainstream gaming, even in singleplayer games as Square Enix has demonstrated with their absurd Mankind Divided microtransactions and their waste-of-drive-space Breach mode (kind of ironic by the way that they would introduce this in a series that openly denounces the power of big corporations). It kind of concerns me that people who were introduced through mobile gaming and grew accustomed to the microtransactions galore contained within will eventually move to mainstream gaming, and thus give a more stable platform for the publishers to force more bullshit on us. I think that explains in part why people are so hesitant to call people who play mobile games "gamers".
I'd much rather people got introduced to gaming through stuff like Nintendo games or Minecraft for that matter.

this is a clear cut example that we cannot have good things

I'd argue most if not all of the video is a good thing. Kids are having fun, so does it really matter? :v:
it would be nice to find an age restricted server (if that's possible) i haven't had a good multiplayer experience since 2011
The most wonderful time of the year.

I haven't played in awhile either but iirc the facepunch server Max No Relax has a good crowd and it's pretty fun if you enjoy hardcore survival mode
I find this video mostly adorable aside from weirdo adults doing dumb shit.
The only way this could get any better would be if Lionmaker showed up.
I went to 2013 as a dumb kid

Dedodated Wam? yeah, I was in the same room. My ears and eyes have witnessed such horrors that will never be forgotten..
This wouldn't be cringe at all if it wasn't for the adults who obviously have no idea what to do/say lmao. Jens is particularly bad at it, he seems like a massive weirdo lmao
It seems to me more like Jeb isn't comfortable with English
