Hammer is just trying to help Facepunch hit its diversity quota by being our token actual nazi.
sucks for them because the game rocks
also fuck nazis (with a spike)
and then you have [sp]hitler[/sp] portrayed like a senile old man out of a children's cartoon
I like how most of the nazis seem well grounded in reality even with their shortcomings (i.e. being a psychopath) but they botched that one up
[sp]It makes sense in context though, he was almost almost killed at one point in the games timeline and probably resurrected if he was. He was described as cold distant and sickly. I bet he is just a figurehead and the other higher ups run the place for him without him knowing[/sp]

Still not enough to stop me from enjoying the amazing design of german military uniform.
What I like about the art direction in NC is that the Nazis are super fucking greeble'd compared to TNO. Even the general mooks are covered in tubes, masks, backpacks and doo-dads that are probably just JewSensor-9000s
It looked to me that the interviewer was trying to find a deeper meaning behind all of this, like somehow connect all of it to what is happening today with neonazis and shit.
It feels so weird how it became somewhat offensive to kill nazi's. What the fuck
Still not enough to stop me from enjoying the amazing design of german military uniform.
So it's safe to assume you're just another one of those people that grew sympathy towards Nazis just because they got some cool looking uniforms
A lot of people seem to have this kneejerk reaction where it's like "I don't mind killing nazis but why the hell did they have to lump us in with commies and black panthers", well pal, if the nazis did take over America, take a hard guess at what kind of groups would want to resist that and fight back.
That interviewerers hair is ridiculous.
I don't believe actual Nazis make up most of the outraged crowd, at least not much more than usual. Fighting and crushing the Nazi regime is no new thing in video games.
The only thing that stands out in Wolfenstein 2 is the depiction of historical America and its ties to the modern political climate, and while getting upset over this is silly, this does not inherently imply condonation of national socialism.

Pickelhaube is far better and greater alongside the prussian uniforms.

Those people also never heard of "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" and are also probably just more angry closet nazis.
So it's safe to assume you're just another one of those people that grew sympathy towards Nazis just because they got some cool looking uniforms
their uniforms WERE sick but being sympathetic with nazis still makes you a piece of shit
I can't believe that we have reached the point where Wolfenstein, the ultimate in "fuck nazis" has become supposedly politically controversial. The alt-right are fucking crazy.
I mean, was there any sort of outrage apart from a random twitter messages? Has any prominent member of the alt-right said anything on the game? Was there any sort of protest in front of the HQ of Bethesda? Was there a movement to boycott the game?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any of that happened.
So where is this supposedly huge outrage coming from then?
I mean the first trailer came out in June (iirc), yet the alt-right supposedly only became frustrated about it in the past few weeks?
The way I see it, it's a well-executed and very conscious marketing strategy from Bethesda's part. They made the controversy around the game seem significantly larger when they issued a statement on their anti-nazi stances a few weeks back. I mean its one of the most sane and mundane things a company could say, yet it was still reported as some sort of breakthrough moment.
Ever since then, I've seen countless news articles about the game and this particular topic, on FP aswell. But more importantly, it received widespread coverage outside the gaming media due to the political nature of the issue (this video is a good example of that). It's an immense amount of publicity for practically free. And publicity is bloody useful when your game is just about launched.
The world hasn't become that much shittier since 2014 or 2009 or 1992. It's really just Bethesda seizing an opportunity.
So it's safe to assume you're just another one of those people that grew sympathy towards Nazis just because they got some cool looking uniforms
Wrong.
You know there were plenty of german soldiers who just fought for their country and not some ideological bullshit about superior race.
This way games like Red Orchestra or Battlefield 1942 should be banned because they let you play on Nazi side.

/v/ has been fucking furious about this game for months.
Reading hammers posts, I cant tell if this is a joke or not.
Have I missed out on some kind of facepunch in-joke?
Wrong.

they fought for a country which was employing 'ideological bullshit about superior race' in its methods
i dont know about you that still sounds bad + the same excuse i've seen every wehraboo use
/v/ has been fucking furious about this game for months.
When isn't /v/ furious?
God I hope this game gets even more attention via more triggered skinnyhead master race nazis or even a GOTY reward
We need to really hammer down the global sentiment of killing nazis being as enjoyable as having a picnic with your family again and to emphasize again that one should treat nazis without any sympathy a la zombies.
/v/ has been fucking furious about this game for months.
I really hope no one considers /v/ or 4chan in general an accurate representation of public opinion.

true, but if you wanna find out what alt righters are saying about video games it's not a bad place to check
true, but if you wanna find out what alt righters are saying about video games it's not a bad place to check
You can't gather data from /v/ in any meaningful way, since the it's completely anyonymous and therefore you can't know if there are 10 people in a thread having the same crazy opinion or 300.
Among other things.

While what the regime itself did was abhorrent, I don't think it's fair to put that responsibility on your average Werhmacht soldier's shoulders, especially since they weren't necessarily supportive of the regime and often didn't actually want to fight.
Considering even the allies did their fair share of atrocities that didn't stop after WW2 (the French slaughtering Algerians for example) I think it's fair to say that any kind of military glorification in videogame, not solely that of the third Reich, is questionable when it comes to tastefulness. I would see no issue with a game that accurately depicts the life of a German soldier during WW2, though.

Maybe /pol/, but /v/? That place is anti anything that is popular at the moment
/v/ has been fucking furious about this game for months.
Not /v/, the threads are thanks to a /pol/ containment breach and cleanup has been impossible. You can't talk about this game anywhere on /v/ without droves of people coming in saying "SHEEEIIITT", "WE WUZ KANGS", or "gas the Jews".

Actually you can. The problem is that you can't differentiate between those people, and also you won't be able to tell who dislikes the game because they're triggered Nazis unless they explicitly state it

Yeah, not being able to differentiate between the number of positive and negative opinions kind of makes it pointless.
My original point still stands, was there any controversy around TNC beyond anonymous 4chan (shit)posts and a handful of quasi-anonymous Twitter posts?
I looked up what Breitbart had to say about the game (I mean thats the site that comes to my mind first when someone talks about alt-right) and it's shocking
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus was easily one of the strongest showings at E3 2017, alongside the most unlikely of its peers. It has cemented its place at the top of my most-wanted list when it releases on October 27.
ye they fought to defend their country in the War of Polish Aggression

They did fight for one of the most reprehensible regimes in history, but if you read surviving war journals from Wehrmacht and SS alike, you see a lot of similarities to Allied soldiers. Most entries have very weird pagan and racial-nationalist undertones that feel alien to the modern reader, but a lot of them just wanted to survive, see their kids, and celebrate Christmas. Most of them probably did want to wipe out certain races or establish German hegemony in Europe, no doubt, but they weren't automatons going "Oh ja, we must kill all der untermensch" 24/7. It goes to show that humans can have their moral compass thrown out of whack and commit atrocities beyond our own belief, but at the end of the day they were just that, people.
