I didn't watch the video at all because it's absurdly long, but doesn't the channel have more subscribers than any other channel? 57 million.
5 minutes in the guy uses a Socialblade screenshot to show that Pewdiepie currently has like 150 million monthly views whereas Jake Paul currently has like 300 million. I don't even know why he bothered to mention that because Pewdiepie has still by far the largest channel in terms of subscribers, and also, Jake Paul has caught probably way more shit from H3H3 than Pewdiepie. Matter of fact, it proves to be more evidence to the contrary, Ethan saying he's disappointed in Felix isn't something outrageous, considering basically all other big name Youtube stars have come out to be huge dickheads. It would make sense to be disappointed, having the one guy that has made it to the very top through his dedication and brand development alone say something as stupid as that is disappointing. It's also particularly disappointing (And again, context) coming from Pewdiepie because just a few months back Ethan and basically everyone else on this site was defending Felix when he was falsely accused of being a white supremacist over a sketch. I wouldn't say it's outrageous or hypocritical to now condemn him on his pretty overt use of a racial slur in a stream, particularly because by know, he should have known better.
Ethan wasnt just quoting ian tho, it also comes directly from his mouth. Not to mention the other slurs like "Retarded" he frequently uses. Either all of it is okay, or none of it is okay -Idubbz Plus Ian uses nigger liberally, like the whole tana mongeau thing. It isnt just "Niggerfaggot"
Goddamn, again, nuance. It's never used to refer to anybody, other than Ian referring to himself. And before you now go around saying "nigger" to everything that isn't a person, social context also matters, uttering the word alone can be offensive depending on the context. It seriously seems like the point of Idubbbz' videos went straight over your head. The whole point behind that Tana Mongeau stuff was to expose how she gets falsely outraged over things and ultimately doesn't care about what she says, because there are several clips of her calling people "fucking niggers", and her only answer to that was a half-hearted apology claiming that, apparently, everyone in Vegas says that. Nobody gets to call someone else a "fucking nigger", that has been the norm for a while, I don't get why you're saying that's not it.
I didn't watch the video at all because it's absurdly long, but doesn't the channel have more subscribers than any other channel? 57 million.
The guy touched on that saying that while he's the biggest in sub count he's not the biggest in actual people watching him and activity feeds and whatnot.
A grown man shouldn't be calling people "fucking niggers" online.
Nigger like any curse word is not a pleasant word to ear and should be keept down, for manners sake. But at the same time if people allow a such word have power over them then mayby they should reconsider themself and learn to handle it. For really, all this fuss just by one word? Is that worth it? I know they can hurt as hell, I have been there, but thats because you allow it too.
What are we going to do? The word "nigger" will never disappear and getting so fucking upset over someone using it (in any context) only empowers its hateful origin. Why get upset over the choice of words an ignorant racist vocalizes his beliefs with? This is what happens: everyone tiptoes around the word silently saying it in their mind and the ignorant racist wins without lifting a fat finger because society still assigns it the same value it did years ago when African-Americans were actually considered subhuman.
The word could've been on the top of his mind because in like every third pubg lobby theres someone going "fucking niggers niggers niggers" I might be exaggerrating, havent played much of it.
Okay so let me break it down as much as I can. 1. I don't mean to call him a nazi
you're missing the "but" out of that which in the language known as "English" is an implication that indeed the former is contrary to "don't mean to" I don't mean to think this is a dumb post but why even bring the dirty word 'nazi' into it.
Ethan shouldn't of gotten involved in this type of stuff to begin with.

It isn't a choice.
You lack nuance, the difference lies in, again, context. The only reason the phrase "nigger faggot" is associated with Ian is not because of his liberal use of it, it's because someone called him that in response to one of his Kickstarter reviews. From then on, his fans started calling him that in fan mail for some reason. There has never been a point where the phrase "nigger faggot" has become acceptable, or not offensive, its self-deprecating. You're going for choice quotes here anyway, Ian explains where the phrase came about in literally that same podcast. It's never been an acceptable thing to say to somebody, it's mostly self-deprecating. Honestly, I don't get why people are having trouble with this. Just saying the word "nigger", or "nigger faggot", when all you're doing is referencing what someone else said is not offending anybody; it's a word, it exists. Calling somebody a "fucking nigger" is clearly meant to be offensive, and it's also a big nono, which, again, everyone is aware of, you wouldn't find Ian saying that to somebody, you wouldn't find Ethan saying that to somebody. Again, Pewdiepie knows this and understands the difference, why argue otherwise?

either it's all ok, or none of it is ok, you don't get to pick the one that makes you look good in an argument. all ok, or none of it is ok, pick one
[editline]18th September 2017[/editline]
Here's a good question. Are the people who blatantly call themselves variants of "nigger" in game also racist or just edgy idiots? Leaning towards edgy idiots.
or maybe they don't care about your opinion or very temporary zeitgeist. The word isn't going away and neither is any context in which it appears, whether because of malicious intent or not.
Why do you think people can just not get upset by it? It isn't a choice.
It's not ingrained into our DNA to hate certain English words. Jumping at the sound of a snake or the sensation of a bug crawling on your skin are among the unconscious reactions we can make even in our sleep. We can evolve our perception of this caustic word or we can keep it preserved in amber, high up on its pedestal as the lens for every fucking yokel that wants to project his inferiority complex. [sp]Besides it's a fun word. All the "worst" words are the best words.[/sp]
Obviously it's been conditioned by experiences in life, it's not something someone is born with. That doesn't mean you can just switch it off though.
The way you wrote it made it sound like that was impossible though. If something isn't a choice then that usually means it's how you are and not really changeable, like sexuality. I also think if you start conditioning yourself to not care about it then eventually you can just switch it off. At the same time, I feel like you need to be able to recognize the context though, because if you "switch it off" and then just use it like it's not offensive to other people then that would be a problem.
Obviously it's been conditioned by experiences in life, it's not something someone is born with. That doesn't mean you can just switch it off though.
There are still many alive today that have suffered racism, and I mean AUTHENTIC institutional type racism, but the rest of these talking heads need to shut the fuck up about """it""" and start promoting the retirement of these derogatory terms. That isn't to say that if you're white or if you haven't been called a "nigger" by a racist you can't have an opinion on the topic. I am merely suggesting that all of this bullshit drama around the "n-word" is putting it on a pedestal and making the word (or any such word like "faggot") itself the object of their contention and NOT the bigot using them they are doing nothing but empowering actual bigots. But you gotta make those youtube bucks somehow, right? phillip de fucknut? or the one in the OP: dirty basement hoodie rat?
This is the most stupid fucking youtube drama. Felix slipped and said sorry. That should have been the end of it. Ethan's "high horse" approach was stupid. So sick of this shit.
Nah, I think PewDiePie deserves the flak he's getting. He fucked up and I'm happy he apologized.
What Pewdie Pie did was stupid, yet Ethan is a hypocrite for using the term liberally. I live in Georgia, and that word is basically banned.
Nah, I think PewDiePie deserves the flak he's getting. He fucked up and I'm happy he apologized.
He fucked up and apologized. That's it. He might have deserved the initial flak he got but Jesus Christ let it go already. This has been going on for way too fucking long.
Nah, I think PewDiePie deserves the flak he's getting. He fucked up and I'm happy he apologized.
I disagree. I've seen way too many people take this really seriously and blowing it out of proportion as PewDiePie being some Nazi racist. It's getting heated without it needing to be.
He fucked up and apologized. That's it. He might have deserved the initial flak he got but Jesus Christ let it go already. And some people are late to the party, not informed, etc. That's kind of a natural response society has to things. It's something I think should be expected whether or not you agree with it. And in this case, I think people should be allowed to voice their outrage because that is a big fuck up.
I disagree. It's getting heated without it needing to be.
That's a bit much, but him being called out for being stupid for having used the word in the first place is fair. You don't just kind of blurt out "nigger", and if you do you really need to re-evaluate how you speak. Some people always take the ball and run with it, but hey, that's motivation to not use racist words if you don't want to be called a racist. I'm happy he apologized, because he realized what he did was wrong and that there's no excuse for it. He's not a villain, just made a mistake. I sympathize with him because he's not a bad person but what he did wasn't right even as just a simple "heat of the moment" thing. People will move on, I think. The heat is temporary.

And theres a couple hundred or thousand people who seem to agree with his decision.
I stopped watching him a while ago anyway [editline]20th September 2017[/editline] Plus I never got his style of humour
I think you can say that PDP most likely isn't a racist just because he used the word nigger as an insult and still admit that using the word nigger as an insult is not something most people do.
Yeah I really don't think that he's racist. But because it's the first word he immediately went to, I'd still put money on it that he's dropping the N-word outside of this incident more than the average pissed off gamer.
This is one of the things that really puzzles me. The Youtube community seemed measurably more uncomfortable with Pewdiepie blurting out the word nigger in a heat of the moment thing then issuing a pretty sincere apology than they were with the far more elaborate and premeditated bullshit that Jontron spouted followed by a total non-apology. Somewhat a sad reflection of the current political climate in general.
Pewdiepie is significantly more popular than JonTron, holding the position of Most Subscribed Channel, being surpassed only once for less than 2 months by YouTube's official channel itself. That's 57 Million compared to Jontron's 3.3 million. Pewdiepie also gets a much wider audience, due to being so much more popular, compared to JonTron's focused audience, a bunch of enthusiast fans who're much more likely to be some edgy idiot and think less seriously of controversial statements. And on top of that, JonTron used to be more beloved. People "hated" Arin after Jon left Game Grumps, they thought he was a charming guy (I mean, I did), and he never did anything "wrong" yet (save for that one time he dropped an (albeit censored) "nigger" on Game Grumps), so people kind of clung to him, and wanted to defend him. Pewdiepie always did have a sizable "I think he's obnoxious" critics, though. [editline]20th September 2017[/editline]
A lot of people in online gaming say nigger a lot like it's nothing so it's pretty easy to just blurt it out once you get use to saying it
I mean I hope you're not saying this as any kind of defense because online gaming communities are one the absolute worst beacons of morality. It's a bit of an "explanation," so we aren't confused as to why it'd happen, but it's certainly a problem. [editline]20th September 2017[/editline]
Yeah I really don't think that he's racist. In the end this really boils down to nothing more than any of us saying something in the heat of the moment without thinking. It happens to everyone, and we apologize and move on.
