wow it has gus sweet
hope it doesn't end up like tera nova, loved the show but it got canceled even with high ratings and good viewer numbers.
This would be really fucking interesting if they actually followed real-life EMP laws of phsyics behind the outage I.E. somekind of worldwide EMP blast that DOES take out all unprotected electricity on the grid. However... 1. Batteries, would obviously still work. Until they died, of course. People could make alternate sources of (very limited) power from this though. Potato farm anyone? 2. Military would still have power, at least top-security stuff. Because generally, shit in a bunker is shielded against EMP blasts. 3. Anything that uses old electric technology that doesn't rely on circuts would still work and/or have power, at least as far as I know. I.E. really old style electronics or lightbulbs might work. At least then you could have the same general premise, without all the really tacky and goofy shit and MASSIVE plot holes. And even have it be more interesting, as people who have access to this limited power would have some kind of social/economic advantage over others. Sadly this will probably still be eaten up like candy, because generally american TV audiences don't know shit anyways (so plotholes aren't obvious) and generally because as long as it's sexy, senationalist, or actiony enough, it'll sell. I must say the idea is really cool though. I just wish that they hadn't taken the b-movie blockbuster hollywood approach to it.

Isn't it obvious they are just trying to copy Hunger Games? The bow and arrows, crossbows, forests, pretty girl with weapon that is also self confident and good with the weapon. [editline]14th May 2012[/editline] also her dad died
so is this actually meant to have anything to do with Deus Ex or is it just a joke that went over my head
I still don't know how you can be a director, go to make a TV show and do literally no research, are these people devoid of passion. I'd love to do what they're doing but they just seem to throw money at stuff but don't seem to care at all about the credibility of their material. Millions of dollars wasted on this shit, good work again.
I lost my shit at the plane, yeah no it would not go down like that, if it did the wings would have ripped off LONG ago. Don't these writers know anything about aerodynamics. This is as bad as Jericho with completely fucking over logistics, we have these things called bread boards and could re use the inlpace copper wires to make a makeshift telecom. Seriously do people not know how shit works or do they all assum DURRR SO MAGICAL PIXY DUST [editline]14th May 2012[/editline]
so is this actually meant to have anything to do with Deus Ex or is it just a joke that went over my head
If OP actually played the game the Dark ending was only a way of destroying all networks that were being monitored by helios or who controlled it. Thus breaking power grids, hospitals, businesses, ect. Electronics still worked fine but any code that was reporting on people was destroyed and made inoperable [editline]14th May 2012[/editline] OH WAIT I GET IT I UNDERSTAND WHY EVERYTHING WAS SO BAD You have to put on your how republicans thing shit works goggles
Ok, the OP is completely misleading. Just because one of the possible endings in Deus Ex is somewhat similar to the premise of the show doesn't mean this has anything at all to do with it. I was expecting a near future-ish cyberpunk-medieval setting but all I got was an absolutely unrealistic and unoriginal *insert generic post apocalyptic society here*/Twilight hybrid with a ~Sc13nc3~ twist. This shit is dildos.
So, what prevented people from cleaning up the overgrowth of plants? Or still like in their regular houses?
So, what prevented people from cleaning up the overgrowth of plants? Or still like in their regular houses?
Because Mechanical devices stop working when an EMP goes off.... duh
I agree with you but what's this about Jericho?
Jericho was a terrible show couldn't make it past the first season it was just that bad
Because Mechanical devices stop working when an EMP goes off.... duh
if its good enough for MW2 its good enough for TV rite
This looks pretty bad and it wont make it past 1 season.
To be honest the acting looks shit, looks like Tera Nova and the whole "time after no electricity or society" has been done to fuck, also all of that overgrowth wouldn't grow in that time
This looks pretty bad and it wont make it past 1 season.
Given the fact that NBC just cancelled Awake, one of the most original, compelling shows to come out of the network in a long time, I'm going to say this show won't even make it to the end of a first season.
My dad reads a book series that explores the same idea of "electricity" going out like that. I found it questionable the moment I heard the details about it. Really, to the extent these stories try to play the idea, you'd have to rewrite the laws of physics to make it possible.
Reminds me of both Jericho and Flashforward, both of which were rather good. I think I'll watch this. A very large EMP, like, say, from the sun, could in theory fuck up all of our electrical components so bad that it simply can't be repaired without fucking shit tons of work.

I'm sorry, but this show looks retarded and is geared to the average potato chip crunching american who thinks that fairies are responsible for the TV he is watching. Schools need to teach physics more.
Yes, but after 15 years I'm pretty sure people would have fixed A LOT.
I doubt it. A week without electricity would see western society deteriorate into chaos. There's no way we'd have the capacity to repair or create anew the infrastructure needed.
doesnt look very good.
I think this would make a better movie than TV show.
Looks great. I just wish I didn't watch the trailer. It gave WAY too much away.
Reminds me of the book One Second After. Though the book takes place the day of a large scale EMP attack and the events for a year following. I also got a bit of a Jericho vibe from it. But it seems like, from the preview, too much drama and not enough story telling. If the very basics of electrical engineering are gone, then what good does saving everything to a flash drive do? I can almost understand the lack of modern weaponry 15 years following. Reloading is rather simple, but getting fresh components like primers could be troubling. However, it would take way more than 15 years for vegetation to take over cities to that level. I think we're looking at closer to a century before that level of growth. I'll probably give it the benefit of the doubt and watch an episode or two.
What the hell logic was behind that?
Just thinking I see a show that looks really great, I don't want to start watching it and then have fatass devs go lawl canceled.
I feel bad because the only person here who said they liked Jericho also said this looks good. I really enjoyed Jericho, but this has plot holes so fucking big you could push a steam engine through them. Why the hell do batteries not work any more? What about dynamos (those hand-cranked generators you can make with copper wire and refrigerator magnets)? Does no one have diesel or gasoline engines? Not even the military? What about solar power? Or hydroelectric power? Or wind power? And what happened to modern guns? Why can't we use those? And why can't new electronics be made? Did everyone suddenly forget any and all electrical engineering? Did all the electrical engineers suddenly die and every piece of documentation ever written about electrical engineering spontaneously combust? I think I'll pass on this, and continue rewatching The Book of Eli, The Road, The Walking Dead, and Jericho, waiting for more GOOD post-apocalypse series and films to be made.
Also, losing food and the like would be the least of your worries, especially in America. With no power provided, almost every single nuclear reactor would melt down. 85% of Americans live within 50 miles of a nuclear reactor. Almost the same numbers in Europe. If every single reactor melted down simultaneously the fallout would be devastating. [editline]14th May 2012[/editline] Also, for those of you who wonder why the plane didn't glide and just fell out of the sky, the answer is that turning off electricity will also turn off the laws of physics and aerodynamics as we know it, so planes can no longer glide. [editline]14th May 2012[/editline] And if all the power and batteries turned off, how the hell are they filming this with the camera?
All the other crap aside, reactors are designed extremely carefully so as not to do exactly this. A reactor's control rods are forced into place by gravity and/or a passive spring if the electrical current holding them up fails. A modern reactor can cool itself on convection alone assuming nothing else happens to it. [editline]15th May 2012[/editline] Also, modern guns would require electricity and complicated factories to produce the precise ammo they require. For old timey guns, all you need to do is melt metal into a ball. As for the rest of it, it is pretty dumb, yeah.
so did nbc bring on the guy who made this or what? i thought the visuals looked similar but they seem to be pulled directly from this short
Didn't bother reading past the first picture, but skip too 1:07 in the original video and 0:24 to the quoted video. EXACTLY the same scene. That seems a bit cheap on the makers of this serise part... :/
