Any chance of ever doing a BFBC2 get together? It's the only game I'm good at haha and I don't own Arma. :\
For ACE you can follow my ballin' guide here: http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1045249-Facepunch-Airsoft-Vidya-Game-Edition
Alright, got all of the stuff installed. I'm ready to rumble (whenever the next rumble time is.)
That looked like so much fun, I wanna play with you guys someday! :buddy: [editline]20th June 2011[/editline] Part 2 was fucking awesome, and the music matched very well.
Should I get the Arma: II Operation Arrowhead, or just Arma II itself? Or Both?
Should I get the Arma: II Operation Arrowhead, or just Arma II itself? Or Both?
Both.
Just keep an eye on this thread if you guys are interested in joining, we post about when we're going to play and the server info a couple hours beforehand. http://www.facepunch.com/threads/1045249-Facepunch-Airsoft-Vidya-Game-Edition
Shit man, how many people are we going to HAVE
Too many probably. Once we get a dedicated server up it will be better.
Well, we did this on Mbbird's listen server, didn't we? We had no lag issues at all, so I think we could handle a couple more people on that server until we get a dedicated server up.
Wait, is this in regular Arma II or OA?
Combined Operations so.. both
Oh okay, I'm going to have to buy Operation Arrowhead soon then, I only have the original Arma II.
Thanks for all the subscribes, guys! It's nice to know you guys like it that much, I didn't think it would be so well liked.
Some questions about ARMA 2: How is the learning curve for it? Is it easy and fast to get the hang of it, or does it take dedication? Is it overly complicated? Will just learning the mechanics take as much time as it does to get used to them? Are servers typically unpopulated, or is it easy to find a server with plenty of players? What about your server? What's the typical turnout for events like this? What's the difference between ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: OA? Is OA like an addon? Would you guys says ARMA 2 is worth the $40/$45 if you get OA as well? When you guys were playing in the videos (particularly part 2), were those bots you were facing, or real enemies? Is multiplayer based around coop against bots, team games between players, or either? Is the name "Ender007" a reference to the book Ender's Game? (I only ask because if so +respect) Sorry for asking so much, but I don't want any buyer's remorse here, so Oh, and is anyone welcome to join your events? As in, we don't have to be an Airsoft forum regular, or even an Airsofter; as long as we meet the criteria that you posted earlier, we can join?
Ok so i'll answer one by one Depends what you do. I'm an OFP:CWC vet, so I knew what I was doing from when I picked up ARMA 2. I've heard complaints from the other airsoft bros that learning in singleplayer is hard as fuck, so I'd recommend you play with us to learn. We can teach you and shit, we're pretty cool guys when it comes to that kind of stuff. There's not much out of the ordinary for infantry mechanics, except that the movement is somewhat clunky. You have to learn what you can do while moving, and what restricts your movement. (Ie, you can reload most small arms while moving, but belt-fed light machine guns and rocket launchers won't let you move while reloading. Rocket launchers you can't reload while proning either.) Then there's the vehicle mechanics, you'll have to learn how to control tanks, ifv's, and both fixed and rotor-wing aircraft. In addition, you'll also learn how to play as the gunner role for each of those vehicles. It's somewhat hard to learn, but once you grasp it, it'll stick with you. Of course, you could always just be infantry or roll in the cargo of the vehicles. There's a dickload of servers, but usually only 60% of them are populated. Out of those servers, there's usually at least six players, all the way up to thirty or so. For our server, we actually usually only host smaller events with around four or five of us. Once in a while we organize events with upwards of ten people, but it is a pain in the ass usually to get that many FP'ers organized. OA stands for Operation Arrowhead, which is a standalone expansion pack. Our server runs CO (Combined Operations, which basically requires both regular A2 and OA running.) however, so you'd need both. There's two other mini-dlc's, BAF and PMC. BAF (British Armed Forces) and PMC (Private Military Company) adds a couple cool vehicles, rather dull single-player/co-op missions, bunch of new guns and some rad units. You get the lite edition of them for free though, which basically includes everything but the missions, and all the textures are EXTREMELY low-res. You can run the lite editions of these for MP servers. It's definitely worth it. Not for the singleplayer experience, but for the multiplayer experience. If you're considering getting it, get Combined Operations, since almost all the mp servers require it. In Love The Hind, we were playing a gamemode called "Domination" which basically involves us organizing ourselves to take over the entire map (or just a couple cities, whatever is selected in the options). In this gamemode it's all AI opposition. However we also run mixed-adversarial (which involves both AI and player-controlled opponents and allies), and completely adversarial (where it's player team on player team). The editor is pretty limitless, if you know what you're doing. Ender, I'm not sure actually. Ask him yourself, I guess. He's on the facepunch airsoft forum as well. Anyone is allowed to join, as long as they have a mic and the required addons. Of course, if you're an ass we won't let you keep playing with us. ... ok hope i answered everything

It's not that complicated either, think of it like Project Reality for BF2 only without the BF2 part. There tend to be quite a few servers running at all times but servers with more than about 10 people are rare. Stick to events and you won't even really have to worry about that; public servers tend to be shit anyway. We have unplanned events quite often of about 4-6 people just dicking around in Insurgency or the like. Larger events, like this one, come up with more than 10 typically. ArmA 2: OA is the expansion to ArmA 2, they can both work at the same time through what's called Combined Operations where you get the content from both games. If you're in to games like this then yes, I definitely consider it worth the $45 dollars. I've clocked in 309 hours in OA, ask anyone else and I bet they'd say likewise. ArmA 2 has shitloads of different "gamemodes", but the largest categories are Team vs. Team which is basically two player-operated teams against each other and Coop which is one team of players against AI. This mission was Coop. I wasn't even aware that we had criteria, at any rate all you'll absolutely need is ACE and Combined Operations; though we HIGHLY recommend a microphone (We all use it.) it isn't a requirement. You're free to join in as long as you aren't a dumbass about it. edit: FUCK
Part 2 holy motherfucker. I wish something like that happened to me.
Thanks, guys. I'm probably going to buy it tomorrow, given your responses and what I've heard from others. I look forward to hopefully being a part of these events. Tark: When I said "criteria", I was just referring to this post:
Play it with us, we have little events every weekend. Yeah, a mic isn't 100% necessary, but it's a lot more enjoyable for everyone if you had one. Otherwise we'd miss your messages at the bottom of the screen and stuff.

I usually don't either, but watching LTH again, I noticed a lot of messages that I didn't notice when we were playing.
You guys should host a dick around game tonight. And organize something for tomorrow when everyone joins.
You guys should host a dick around game tonight. And organize something for tomorrow when everyone joins.
We would but we already played a game, and it's late. Tomorrow we'll probably do a small game though.
Hope you dudes have fun, I got a doctors appointment in Palo Alto, so I can't really show up.
I'm trying to get my mic set up because I totally want to play with you guys - but I'm in Australia, so my ping in NA servers is like 300. It's bearable for me, the question is though, do you guys mind if I try to join in?

I think I'm buying a dedi server soon so then you guys can all play :)
I'm certain that I'm going to get Arma 2 now, probably sometime later today, but my computer has been seriously shitting up, so I need to get that sorted out before I actually buy it. [editline]merge[/editline]
