Ben Affleck and Bill Maher HEATED Islam / Islamophobia Debate
The crusades helped pave the way for major confrontations between people of different abrahamic religions, and still has its influence today. Every conflict between Christians, Muslims, Jewish people have been influenced since then. Don't even bring ebola victims into this, because I'm not even saying we should killing anyone. Nor did I claim that muslims who have radical beliefs were a part of some microscopic fringe group. Also, a minority can be any size. Also, how many Christians have killed people because of those same anti-woman, anti-homosexuals, anti-ANYTHING-not-Christian ideals?
The Crusades were started when the Emperor Alexios made a plea to the Pope for aid against the Seljuks, who were one in a line of Muslim invaders that stretched back to Abu Bakr (who invaded the Middle East, Egpyt and North Africa during a period of Byzantine weakness following a brutal war with Sassanid Persia.)
Lol, Ben's Ted Bundy comment... he was thinking of Geoffrey Dahmer.
Are you going to act like Islam is full of nothing but hateful, murderous monsters? See, you're the problem with this nation. You fuel xenophobia and indulge in it. Have you forgotten how many Muslim or even vaguely Arab/middle-eastern looking people have been killed out of retaliation for 9/11? In the US alone, mind you. Simply because they were assumed to be arabic? Or were wearing a turban? Did you not learn about the crusades? Do you know what the reconquista is? Do you also understand that there are people who claim to represent a demographic and only commit actions that sully the name of said demographic?
Oh wait, you're just trolling. Nevermind.
You didn't even watch the video, did you. You're making the same exact point Ben Affleck was making, and its wrong.
You didn't even watch the video, did you. You're making the same exact point Ben Affleck was making, and its wrong.
It's wrong to point out that Bill Maher is making a major generalization about muslim countries? As if no other people representing their religion has promoted violence in order to get their way.
Biggest problem here is the mindset that criticizing = racism.
You can't criticize a culture in anyway or else retards like Ben Affleck will use the racism card.
You can't criticizing the Islam faith, which is indeed fucked up as hell no matter what percentage of muslims are nominal or whatever, because then you're being Islamophobe or you're generalizing, you're disrespecting muslims etc.
That's just bullshit.
i dont think anything that came out of ben afflecks mouth was a reasonable argument
he just seemed to be there in order to pull strawmans or exaggerate to sound appealing
It's pretty difficult to provide a poll of Christians who believe crazy things when those kinds of polls aren't exactly done. Ever. I should have checked before stating that claim though, I'll admit.
The polls aren't done because there isn't a Christian marketplace where children are sold and traded as sex slaves.. THATS why the polls aren't done.
And stating something like "Christians believe in there hearts that gays should be killed" is not only a false fact.. but one that you could NOT back up..EVER, (unless you become a mind reader)
Last but not least, like I said I have man family members who are Christian, and I know what the Bible preaches, No it does not preach that you can rape children, YES it does preach that homosexualit is a sin..
But no where in the Christian Bible does it say that you can kill other people because of their sins..
SO much ignorance.

i'm glad to see the Islamophobes moved from SH to videos.
Alright, I've seen Maher's opinion on Islam and I think he's an idiot who's just as bad as any WBC member.
When he constantly mentions Saudi Arabia's or Pakistan's brutality with Islam, he fails to acknowledge that Executions via Beheadings for religious reasons do not take place in, say, Kazakhstan or Bosnia (predominantly Muslim countries)
When Maher says that Islam is "against women and does everything in its power to restrict their rights", he looks over Indonesia, where Women's rights have grown rapidly over the past 10 years.
He uses only countries like Saudi Arabia (Wahhabis, which is an interpretation of Sunni Islam, for those who don't know) because he knows he'll look like a fool if he mentions any of the more moderate countries.
Sunni Islam, the predominant sect, states that Muhammad's teachings are up for the interpretation to all followers, hence why Sharia Law varies from place to place. The Saudi Wahhabis are, to put it bluntly, the most extreme in terms of Sharia (sans ISIS, but they are not a state), since Al-Wahhab viewed Non-Arab Muslims travelling to Mecca as decadent.
All in all, Maher is a twat who doesn't do his research and should never be taken seriously.
lmfao stop posting
Why? because I'm making points?
So far the only argument I've seen mounted against mine is:
"Your racist, bigoted, stupid.. and stop posting."
Pull your head out of your ass and learn how to have a discussion.
have u ever thought that if u are being consistently called a racist or a bigot then maybe its you who is in the wrong

Nope, if you guys backed up ANYTHING you said with facts. Then I would admit I lost the debate and go find another forum to read.
...But the fact is, I post multiple links to tons of different facts, and back up my argument. And all you can come up with is: You've got xenophobia.
...Well excuse me if I don't believe a few random people on the internet that gave me a quick diagnosis with NOTHING to back up their claims.

What exactly are you trying to achieve here?
What exactly are you trying to achieve here?
If he's aiming for being a prat then mission accomplished.
is the implication with all of the "yeah but christians used to go on crusades and they had an inquisition" stuff that if it was still going on it would be racist to call christians fucking mental?
because as far as I'm aware, christians were fucking mental, and it's a blessing that they became as lazy and apathetic as they are now. And if they were still doing those things, yeah they would be fucking mental and you would be fucking mental for following them.

And once again, I form a argument, back it up with facts.. and the best you can do is hurl insults... quite pathetic.
What's your prerogative? Because that sounds like something Hitler would say.

Pretty much my point.. the best argument they came up with is.."but yeah crusades!"
so the crusades happened... does that give everyone the right to excuse what muslims are doing?
Last time I checked no one is trying to defend the crusades (which happened nine HUNDRED years ago)

No offense but your writing is bloated, poorly worded, and self congratulatory. Even if I agree with you on some level I can't stand that "man these people are crazy!" shit you're doing.
And this is an open forum, talking about the people you're discussing something with like they aren't here or reinterpreting what they're saying instead of quoting it directly is juvenile.

I will admit my writing isn't the best, not a strong suite of mine. But as far as talking like people arent here... I don't see where I did that at all.
And reinterpreting what they say, I could quote multiple times when they interjected comments about the crusades to justify what is going on with the muslim faith. But I wasn't trying to argue with them, was just quickly agreeing with part of your post.
It's wrong to point out that Bill Maher is making a major generalization about muslim countries? As if no other people representing their religion has promoted violence in order to get their way.
Who says he doesn't also despise other religions? Your argument is based on fallacy. Even if he was only hating on Muslim countries, his point would still stand. Can you actually address the issue rather than point out ancillary facts (which aren't even true)?
This is why its easiest to argue against religion as a staunch atheist.

you can see from the start of the show that he's either too pissed to articulate properly (because he usually does) or that he has a massive hangover of some kind
