But he's been doing the bark brotherhood questline? The main quest isnt reallly that great tbh, you only really need to get far enough to get the full force and quick step shouts, otherwise I usually ignore it.

When it came to the plot, i think the only thing he explicitly stopped them from doing was killing Raidens family for plot purposes, which is why they're handwaved off as being in New Zealand.
Konami is dumb but i doubt they'd care enough about the plot to do anything.
